GHOSTEX at SHOT Show

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

While it’s not truly a debut, GHOSTEX, a joint venture between camouflage gurus Hyperstealth and tailored logistics titans ADS is being unveiled to the masses. The reason we say not truly a debut is that previously, they had premiered a sample of their lineup at the ADS Warrior Expo last summer in Virgina Beach.

Intended primarily to support niche forces, GHOSTEX (Ghost Textures) derives its name from the US Army’s Ghost unit of WWII, (23rd Headquarters Special Troops). This Ghost Army specialized in Camouflage, Concealment and Deception (CCD). The premise of the mashup is intriguing; Commercial Off the Shelf camo patterns to cover virtually any scenario paired with rapid manufacturing capabilities to support contingency operations.

We took a look at their wares during the Warrior Expo and came back impressed. The GHOSTEX website goes into pretty good detail about what they are up to so make sure you visit it to gain a deeper understanding of what they have going on. One important detail that we appreciate is that the GHOSTEX program is limited to authorized customers. These patterns are going to be restricted to those who need them only.

Will GHOSTEX be a contender for the Army’s Family of Camouflage program? We won’t know the answer to that until the solicitation is actually released, but if they do, my money is on something completely new that we haven’t even seen yet. After all, with over 8000 patterns to their credit, no one concentrates on camo like Hyperstealth.

Be sure to visit the Hyperstealth reps at ADS, Inc’s booth #20415.

Wiley-X Unveiling New Designs at SHOT Show

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Wiley X® has been making protective eyewear since 1985. Naturally, they will be presenting new products at this year’s SHOT Show. In fact, the show’s New Product Showcase will include the Wiley X Saber Advancedâ„¢ from the company’s Changeable Series. Additionally, Wiley X® will have two exhibits at the show, booth #128 and #20220, and will be generating additional buzz with its new Wiley X® Black Opsâ„¢ line — black on black shades in some of the company’s most popular styles, created for elite-level military and law enforcement personnel and dedicated shooters. Each “operative” in the series combines Wiley X’s High Velocity Protectionâ„¢ (HVPâ„¢) combined with cool, sleek designs. We checked the Operator series out last year but the booth was so swamped we couldn’t get in to talk to anyone. In addition to their tactical brands they will also have their new hunting eyewear on display.

For updates on Wiley X pro athletes and events, find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wileyxeyewear.

The 4-Hour Body

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

At a first glance, “The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman” by Timothy Ferriss looks to be another ‘miracle’ lifestyle book that promises plenty while offering nothing of real value. However, most of the information inside is actually beneficial. It is possible, though not always practical, through using this book to indeed become “superhuman” as the title so boastfully states.

But how is this achievable? Mostly through the driving principle behind the book: the MED, or Minimum Effective Dose. A simple practice that values doing only what is absolutely necessary to achieve your goals, whether that be losing fat rapidly or quickly gaining muscle. For example, the Slow-Carb Diet described in the book promises to cause you to lose 20 pounds of weight in about 30 days without any exercise. Other techniques further assist with whatever cause you are currently pursuing.

Of course I mentioned the sometimes lack of practicality of this book. Mostly, it would really benefit from a companion publication. A “4-Hour Body Manual” or something similar, which would better define and simplify the information contained within. I say this because it’s a common occurrence to have to read through the author’s personal take on everything before you finally learn what you were looking for. Also, the author went through a wide volume of testing and describes some procedures that aren’t necessarily available or affordable to every reader.

Despite this, it’s a very good buy. It provides some very valuable information and the stories are generally entertaining. Also, the original title of the book was to be some variation of the term “Body Hacking”, so you know you’re in for a treat.
