Lightweight Integrated Field Transport (LIFT) System

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Necessity is the mother of invention. The owners of MATBOCK wanted a better combat litter and they went ahead and invented one.

Right from the get go, there is something different about the LIFT System in that it is dual purpose. Not only is it a litter but it is also a Sensitive Site Exploitation bag, or it could be used for other tasks such as collecting a casualty’s equipment. Weighing in at 1 lb the litter is made from parachute nylon with reinforcements across its width. Here you can see a loaded example along with its shoulder strap. It unzips and unfolds to form the litter. Once opened up it is 6-1/2 feet long.

It can be used alone as a poleless litter and features grab handles that also serve as slots for the Combat Carbon Poles.

The Combat Carbon Poles are collapsible with shock cord inserts so they are always connected even when broken down for portage. The CCP extends to 7 ft 6¼ and breaks down to five sections 1 ft 9¼ inches long. The individual poles weigh only 1.3 lbs each and together, with the LIFT will support 400 lbs. They also come with MOLLE mounting straps so they can be attached to a pack or armor vest.

Due to size, weight and cost of the CCP, it is envisioned that several members of an element will carry the LIFT but only one man will hump the CCP. This offers a team the option of collecting a lot of evidence during SSE and/or several soft litters. MATBOCK informed SSD that they are taking a look at developing attachments to make the CCP multipurpose products as well.

Abdominal Aortic Tourniquet

Monday, April 16th, 2012

We don’t have a lot of details yet but Speer Operational Technologies has introduced the Abdominal Aortic Tourniquet. It is designed to provide stable and complete occlusion of flow of blood to the lower extremities for uncompressible hemorrhage that is not treatable by a tourniquet in the leg, groin and inguinal region. It has 510(k) approval from the FDA for difficult to control inguinal hemorrhage. It is applied to the mid-abdomen, tightened and inflated and may remain on for up to an hour safely.

Spuhr Mounts

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

I heard about Spuhr Mounts right before SHOT Show from a very respected trainer. A product of Sweden, their bread and butter is the ISMS – IDEAL SCOPE MOUNT SYSTEM. There are a few distinct features of their scope mounts. For example, the rings feature grooves for a better grip on the scope. This also assists with gluing of the scope. But what’s really a bigger point is that the mount is milled out of a single billet of Aluminum 7075 T651. This means that the base is one solid piece and the top portions of the rings that hold the scope in place are naturally, separate. But, the base is one, solid piece. Additionally, the Spuhr incorporates a minimum of seven interfaces for accessories. This facilitates the mounting of lasers directly to the mount, coaxially with the scope. You can also mount other accessories via removable picatinny rails and many of the mounts feature levels. To work in concert with an integrated level, Spuhr has introduced a 10 degree wedge that can be used to ensure the scope is level.

They also manufacture a mounting system for NVGs as well as a sight mount for grenade launchers.

Caveat Emptor – ‘Replica’ Magpul MS3 Sling

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Yes, it’s true. If someone builds something, someone else is more than happy to copy it and turn a quick buck. Lately, Magpul has been getting knocked off. This time it’s their Multi Mission Sling System. You’ve really got to be careful with this one. They’ve even done a good job of counterfeiting the packaging. The top photo features a counterfeit package and the lower photo depicts a real sling from Magpul.

As always, if a deal’s too good to be true; it is. Buy your kit from authorized dealers.

Hopefully, You See It Here Last

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Yes, it was funny the first time we saw it. Not so funny the second time. And after seeing this, and many other memes over and over they get a little stale. In fact, after awhile, they become downright offensive.

We try not to do it very often, but yes, we’re guilty of mindless zombie posting of internet memes. Sorry. At least with this one, “Hopefully, You See It Here Last.”

Colt M2012

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Colt Defense has released a new bolt action rifle at the NRA National Convention this weekend in St Louis. You may have seen the photo of the M2012 that was released by NRAblog. Few details exist so far but we do know that it is chambered for .308 with a 22-inch barrel with a 1:10 twist topped off with a SureFire muzzle brake. It’s a bit of a beast weighing in at over 13 pounds.

The receiver is from Cooper Firearms receiver with an M4 style pistol grip. This aesthetic can be very important for the shooter who doesn’t want to stick out in a crowd of M4s.
