Rudder RAC from Tactical Tailor

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

Tactical Tailor in partnership with one of their SOF clients has developed the Rudder RAC (Ranger Assault Carrier). The Rudder RAC is named in honor of James Earl Rudder took who part in the D-Day landings as commanding officer of the 2nd Ranger Battalion 2nd Ranger Battalion stormed the beach at Pointe Du Hoc scaling a 100 ft cliff under enemy fire to reach and destroy German gun batteries. The Battalion’s casualty rate for this mission was greater than 50%. Rudder was wounded twice during the fight. Despite this, James Earl Rudder and the 2nd Ranger Battalion fought off German counter-attacks for two days until relieved. James Earl Rudder was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame during it’s inaugural year in 1992.

Rudder front

The Rudder RAC is designed to work around the TT Low Vis Plate Carrier and was designed to allow a precision marksman to have the lowest profile possible when laying prone or working in tight quarters. The client specifically requested something that would allow them to drop equipment to climb through windows or other tight fits and still maintain ballistic protection.

Rudder back

The Rudder RAC is an H-Harness type design with a split front opening that can be secured via removable buckles, a hook and loop flap or the hook and loop flap can be secured directly to the Tactical Tailor Low Vis plate carrier. There are two internal pockets behind the front flaps sized for maps, 9-line or grid reference guides. The interior of the Tactical Tailor Rudder RAC is lined with air mesh for operator comfort under load.
The Low Vis plate carrier can be made to accommodate a variety of plates and has removable side plate pockets.

Today in SOF History

Sunday, April 21st, 2013

I though this was pretty cool.

Today in 1944, 1Lt Carter Harmon (standing top right), flew a YR-4B helicopter on a rescue mission to evacuate a light L-2 plane pilot and his passengers. This was the first helicopter rescue mission by the 1st Air Commando Group.

Snake Hound Machine Boomstick

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

You probably know New Hampshire’s Snake Hound Machine for their AKs. Now, they’re producing custom Remington 870s.

20130420-140313.jpg

I caught up with owner Owen Martin and he shared this gun with me. Although he generally starts with an 870 Express Magnum, this one started life as a stock Express Magnum.

20130420-140716.jpg

He breaks the 870 down and applies a reliability package to the action. Additionally, he introduces a billet aluminum, Teflon coated follower to the build and replaced the factory stock and fore end with Magpul models.

20130420-140915.jpg

He also installs a ten round billet aluminum tube from RTI. Looking at the photo above you might notice where the tube has been turned down. This is to accommodate a clamp and gives you a good idea of how much beefier it is than other tubes.

Ares Armor

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Ares Armor showed me a prototype of their Derma Plate Carrier at today’s ‘Shot heard round the world!’ Event in New Hampshire.

20130420-131701.jpg

It incorporates several new features including the Ares-Austrialpin buckle we previewed awhile back.

20130420-132130.jpg

It’s a full cutaway cable release design. Look for the Derma and its unique elastic cummerbund late 2nd Qtr.

20130420-132209.jpg

While I was checking out the Derma I noticed Jon’s cool-guy jeans.

20130420-133156.jpg

The Tacticasual trousers integrate padded knees as well as two 30 round mag pouches in the left thigh.

The magazines pop right up thanks to their mag elevator feature. No word on when these might be available.
