Exum Mountain Guides

Friday, April 5th, 2013

We mentioned Exum Mountain Guides several years ago when we first met them at OR in SLC. At the time there wasn’t much to say as we hadn’t heard anything about them.

Exum Mountain Guides was walking the show and discussing their XMS3 (Exum Mountain Systems Safety Survival) course offerings. They provide several standard courses including multi-day mountain movement and avalanche training. Visit www.exumguides.com for more information.

Here is a video that will show you a little more about the company’s guide programs.

US Army Camo – An Apology and An Update

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

First off, we hope by now that everyone realizes that the story we published on April 1st entitled “Breaking – US Army to Abandon Camo Update; Vows to Reinstate OD” was in fact an April Fool’s Day prank. We understand that readers come to SSD for solid, reliable and factual information. We violated that trust on Monday and we are sorry if we made any extra work for anyone. We will make all attempts to resist the temptation to pull your collective leg in the future.

stripes

As for the US Army Camo Improvement Effort itself. It’s still on and although officials have said on record that a decision is coming, we’d say that it’s just now starting to breathe hard. Look for a decision in 3rd Quarter (we are in 3rd Quarter by the way) with yet another briefing scheduled for Army leadership mid-April to clarify some questions regarding the massive amounts of data collected during the most thorough evaluation of camouflage in history.

To wit, we have this to say. US Army, stop wasting money purchasing commodities in UCP and make a decision already. The data is there. Interpolate it and act.

To everyone else. Stop forwarding that damnable fake camo selection announcement PowerPoint and most of all, stop sending it to us saying that you have some inside information on who was selected. No one knows except those involved in the program. We wish the Army could keep every secret as well as they are keeping this one.

Magpul Releases New Products

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Magpul has just released several new products including the PMAG 10 AR/M4 GEN M3, MS4 Dual-QD Sling, and the AR/M4 GEN M3 –5 and –10 limiters.

PMAG 10 AR/M4 GEN M3

After several years stuck in development while we worked on the standard-capacity GEN M3 magazine technology, the PMAG 10 GEN M3 is finally shipping. The PMAG 10 AR/M4 GEN M3 is a 10-round 5.56×45 NATO (.223 Remington) polymer magazine for AR15/M4 compatible weapons. Incorporating new material technology and manufacturing processes for enhanced strength, durability, and reliability, the PMAG 10 provides next-generation performance for those needing lower profile magazines.

MS4 DUAL-QD SLING

Filling the same mission requirement as the standard MS3 Sling, the MS4 can quickly switch between one-point and two-point configuration. The MS4 maintains webbing material construction and specifications identical to that of the standard MS3, but features a melonite-finished steel D-ring and two heavy-duty push-button QD sling swivels rather than the Magpul Paraclips. This modification allows compatibility with QD sling cups commonly found on lower receivers, receiver end plates, buttstocks, and many low-profile forward QD Sling mounts, including the Magpul RSA-QD.

PMAG AR/M4 GEN M3 MINUS 5 AND MINUS 10 ROUND LIMITERS

The PMAG Round Limiters install in 10, 20, or 30 round GEN M3 magazines, reducing the magazine capacity by 5 or 10 rounds. Designed for sporting and hunting applications, installation of the Limiter is simple, tool-less, and requires no permanent modification of the magazine body.
