Thursday, May 21st, 2015

Early versions of the Magpul PMAG17 GL9 magazines for 9mm GLOCK pistols had some issues feeding some hollow point ammunition.  They quickly acknowledged the issue and updated the bodies of the magazine.  Not only were all replacements sent out for those who had faulty mags, but every new magazine shipping is the updated model.

SOFIC 2015 – Optics 1

Thursday, May 21st, 2015

Optics 1 has a rich history in military optics components development going back to 1987. More recently, they’ve become well known in certain circles for full optics system development and manufacturing. At SOFIC they showed me several new products.

The first is the Enhanced Clip On Thermal Imager which interfaces with any standard I2 optic. It offers improved image quality (640 x 480 @ 17 micron), integrated navigation software including route planning and execution (via Google Earth) and a winter battery pack which also incorporates a GPS receiver to power the navigation component. This battery pack will power BNVD or GPNVG long with the ECOTI.

Next is the Compact Ultralight Gunmounted Rangefinder. It’s the smallest rail mounted laser rangefinder available and offers accurate ranging out to 1500m for a man-sized target.  In addition to the phenomenal performance offered by the Vectronix 3013 module, they have developed an excellent user interface. Additionally, it interfaces with a new family of clip-on displays currently under development.

SOFIC 2015 – WL Gore & Associates

Thursday, May 21st, 2015

Rumors have been swirling about a new “Jungle” fabric from WL Gore & Associates. Currently under evaluation by several DoD organizations, this new fabric relies on Gore’s proprietary ePTFE technology. But, don’t get the wrong impression. This isn’t like your ECWCS jacket at all. Instead, the ePTFE content allows for quicker drying times, both higher breathability and durability-to-weight ratio as well as no melt / no drip; all properties that not only make for a great hot/wet uniform fabric but for a general combat material as well.

It’s important to note that the garment shown is representative of the technology only and not a final production or “issue” uniform. As the fabric is currently under evaluation by government clients along with other competitive materials, we won’t disclose any specific technical data just yet. More and more vendors are beginning to integrate the material. Soon we’ll be able to share additional details.

Huron Tactical – 68l Assaulter Sustainment Pack

Thursday, May 21st, 2015

This is the last installment of a three-part exclusive sneak peek at Huron Tactical’s new pack and clothing line. Today, we’ll cover the 68 liter Assaulter Sustainment Pack. It’s a hybrid top/panel loader design with a common external frame that can be swapped out with other pack bags.

This 22″ Huron Load Carriage Backpack Frame was designed to aid in the overall load carriage of the family of packs as well as additional components and can accommodate all of the larger Huron pack bags. The frame itself is 1.5 to 2 pounds lighter than most other makes on the market. The Yoke/Shoulder and Waist Belt assembly can be custom fit to the users height and girth thanks to a PALS-style grid that is adjustable for height.

The front, side and inside main compartment has generous amounts of PALS webbing to secure extra pouches or the PRC117 radio adapter. An internal mesh comprehension system secures and prevents unnecessary shifting of packed equipment. Attachment points on the top and front of the pack were added in order to use interchangeable front flaps and caps, which add space when needed.

• Cubic Liters: 68 (Main Body, LG V.2 Cap, Nalgene Bottle Pockets, Roll Bottom Storage Compartment)
• Dim: 25.5”H x 13.625”W x 9.75”D

Like the 32 liter model, this larger pack has a rolltop closure that sits independently below the Cap. It is closes with Velcro, is rolled tight and then secured via SR buckles meaning you can control your load and keep your gear a little drier. This same rolltop closure has been integrated into the bottom sleeping gear compartment so no zippers to catch on your sleeping bag as you try to stuff it into place. It’s like having a built-in compression stuff sack and will accept up to an extreme cold weather bag. The bottom of the pack also offers canteen/Nalgene pockets on either side as well as straps to secure extra gear such as rigid sleeping pads.

Additional Features:
•Fully adjustable Yoke with 6 points of vertical tuning
•Carry Handle
•Adjustable waist belt with integrated removable lumbar support
•PALS webbing for MOLLE attachment
•Top loading with compression strap closure
•Hard sewn zippers allow the user to change the overall storage capacity of the pack with interchangeable front flaps such as the Direct Action Assault Pack which also fits the rear of the TYR Tactical PICO Armor Carrier
•Front loading via heavy duty #10 zippers on the right & left side of the pack
•Attachment points allow the user to change the overall storage capacity of the pack with interchangeable caps. Each pack comes complete with a Large cap
•Side compression straps allow the user to the overall capacity of the pack when areas are not in use
•Antimicrobial/FR treated padded spacer mesh is used on the internal portions of the vest for comfort

The Huron 68 liter Assaulter Sustainment Pack Is made from 500D Cordura as well as TYR Tactical’s PV material in key areas for incredible strength and abrasion resistance. The full Huron line will be released 15 June, 2015 from www.TYRtactical.com.

BANSHEEDEFENDERSYSTEMARMOURWEARPLATES22

May 18, 2015: Armour Wear, the leader in body armor technology, has combined efforts with Shellback Tactical to help launch a new body armor package: The Banshee Defender System. Due to the popularity of the Banshee carrier system and customer demand for a better well-priced armor plate, Armour Wear and Shellback Tactical created the Defender System. The Defender series addresses the shooter’s main concerns from a price conscious, rock solid carrier that is user adaptable to the peace of mind of being equipped with Level 3+ or Level 4 plates (which can stop multiple hits from 62gr Green Tip 5.56).
