Safariland Announces Technology Sharing Agreement with FirstSpear

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

ONTARIO, California – The Safariland Group today announced a new agreement with FirstSpear™, a manufacturer of exceptional tactical equipment for elite military and law enforcement units, to integrate FirstSpear technology into tactical vests and carriers for the Safariland® Armor collection and Protech® Tactical armor.

The licensing agreement between these two industry-leading armor companies encompasses key technologies such as the FirstSpear Tubes™ and the 6/12™ and 6/9™ pocket attachment systems.

FirstSpear Tubes: These tubes innovate the armor carrier closure system with enhanced solutions for donning and doffing tactical body armor. Manufactured from lightweight, high-performance polymers, the tubes exceed the strength of other molded fasteners currently used on operational gear. This allows field teams to progress beyond cables to the tube system that augments performance and minimizes weight.

FirstSpear 6/12 Pocket Attachment System: The 6/12 is an all-new, design-engineered pocket attachment system that reduces weight by up to 50 percent, is backward compatible with MOLLE and PALS standards and forward compatible with FirstSpear’s ultra-lightweight pockets. From adhesive heat-set backing to laser cut precision attachment points, this system meets the need for modular, lightweight load-carriage platforms and pockets.

FirstSpear 6/12 Modular Pocket Technology: Building on the 6/12 Pocket Attachment System, this companion modular pocket technology condenses weight by more than 40 percent without sacrificing performance.

FirstSpear 6/9 Modular Pocket Technology: The pocket technology developed for the 6/9 is a transitional attachment choice between the traditional MOLLE/PALS system and 6/12 platforms. With pockets that mount closer to the body and conform tighter to the platform, 6/9 offers significant weight reduction from other pockets, offers flexible attachment straps and is compatible with legacy platforms.

“We are extremely excited about this agreement with FirstSpear, advancing our arsenal of technology invested in tactical body armor to be the best available,” said Todd Mackler, Vice President, Armor for The Safariland Group. “Through this partnership, Safariland continues to revolutionize the body armor market with the tactical operator’s safety and comfort in mind.”

This technology sharing agreement with FirstSpear demonstrates Safariland’s commitment to the mantra that, “Together, We Save Lives.”

Ronnie Fowlkes, VP Business Development for FirstSpear stated, “FirstSpear is dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of the professional user, and this agreement will provide flexibility and increased access to proven technologies that have become the standard for those who demand the most from their equipment.”

These new technologies will be on display at SHOT Show, January 19-22 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Visit booth #12762 to further explore The Safariland Group’s latest products.

Massif

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

Massif has several new items this season and everything is available now.

First up is the Altitude Jacket and Pant. Made from SABA, a nonmembrane softshell. It’s an FR softshell for Infantry that is highly breathable intended for 3-season use due that incorporates DWR. You can move in it and not build up sweat. Plus, it’s the quietest fabric in Massif’s lineup. Think Level 3, action suit. They’ve slimmed the fit down a little and it’s meant to be worn by itself or with under layers. You’ll notice some common DNA in the Jacket’s layout but the Pant is something completely new. Look for zippered slash front Alpine pockets as well as low profile internal cargo pockets with Velcro closure. Rear pockets also close with Velcro.

Next up is the Rainier Winter Combat Shirt. It’s a hybrid design, crafted from Battleshied in the upper torso and arms for climate control which is an exclusive Gore FR stretch fabric for Massif. This is combined with FR SABA fabric in the torso for breathability. It’s a classic FR Combat Shirt design with a 1/4 zip front.

The Caldera is an FR Wind Shirt. It’s made from two fabrics. SABA on the upper torso and sleeves and a new fabric called BattleSkin on the torso. It’s a plaited fabric which means it’s a single layer fabric, knitted with a nylon face and a Nomex modacrylic on the back. This also means it’s very breathable and dries really fast. The Caldera boasts a walk dry time of 22 minutes which beats the pants off of the current mil-spec of 60 minutes.

Revision Introduces New LazrBloc GF-8 Laser Protective Ballistic Lens

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

GF-8_Laser_Lens_-_Angle_with_Shadow

Essex Junction, Vermont (January 18, 2016) – Revision Military, a world leader in protective eyewear solutions, has developed and patented a laser dye for a dual-band laser protective lens that blocks 99.9% of green laser energy and over 99% of the most powerful Near-Infrared (NIR) component of commercially available green lasers. Revision’s patented dye is used in the company’s new LazrBloc GF-8 Laser Protective Ballistic Lens. The LazrBloc GF-8 lens is a unique ballistic lens that blocks green laser emissions and the high-risk NIR energy that exists outside the visible spectrum. Importantly, this lens delivers greater visible light transmission and color recognition as compared to other laser lenses on the market, making GF-8 lenses ideal for day or nighttime use.

Around the globe, reports of lasers used against law enforcement officials, military personnel, and pilots have spiked in recent years. Lasers have been used against riot police in demonstrations as widespread as Canada, the U.S., Ireland, Thailand, Greece, Egypt, and Italy, to name just a few effected regions. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and BALPA (British Airline Pilots’ Association), among other worldwide aviation officials and agencies, have recorded dramatic increases in malicious and inadvertent laser strikes on commercial airlines as well. According to the FAA, for 2015, laser strikes on commercial aircrafts topped 6,624 reported incidents, up from 3,894 in 2014. And, BALPA has found that half of all pilots experienced a laser attack in the past 12 months. Two trends are increasingly clear: these occurrences are on the rise and are more organized.

“We have always prided ourselves on our advanced protective eyewear solutions,” said Jim Hester, Vice President, Optics at Revision, “and this means identifying and adapting to new and more complex threats. Laser strikes are no longer just a military concern, they are an increasingly prevalent reality for many operating in the private sector. Revision is leading the way by providing an efficient and leading solution with the new LazrBloc GF-8 laser protective ballistic lenses.” Hester notes that these new laser protective lenses, like Revision’s previous eyewear successes in ballistic spectacles, goggles, and laser protection technology, are the result of rigorous and highly-developed design, engineering, and manufacturing processes that are constantly evolving in line with market needs. Accordingly, he adds that “in this emerging industry, Revision’s LazrBloc GF-8 laser protective lens is unmatched in its combination of ballistic protective properties, green laser blockage, Near-Infrared protection, and visible light transmission, striking an optimal balance in a single, remarkably effective, integrated solution.”

Revision Tactical LazrBloc GF-8

Reports indicate that illuminations by handheld lasers are primarily green (91%) in color. The wavelength of most green lasers (532 nm) is close to the eye’s peak sensitivity when they are dark-adapted, and green lasers appear brighter than other laser colors of equal power output. Inexpensive and easy to obtain laser devices may not filter and/or align the optics, or can be maliciously altered, contaminating the green laser with a potentially harmful NIR component at 808 nm. The human eye is highly sensitive and strong emissions of directed light containing hazardous wavelengths can cause permanent ocular injury in an instant. Revision’s LazrBloc GF-8 laser protective lenses are designed to block this NIR wavelength, which is undetectable by the naked eye, while still maintaining superior light transmission, color recognition, and situational awareness as compared to other dye-based laser lenses.

Revision’s GF-8 lens formulation provides an interchangeable, situation-adaptable solution that can be manufactured for Revision’s StingerHawk Spectacle System and Exoshield Extreme Low-Profile Eyewear, as well as for Revision’s other Rx-compatible military spectacle and goggle lines.

Blue Force Gear – ULoop

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

Blue Force Gear put together this announcement for their ULoop weapon sling attachment system. Be sure to check out our SHOT Show coverage, as we’ll be covering the ULoop and other fine products from Blue Force Gear and other manufacturers.

Untitled-1

Sling hooks and clips are on borrowed time! The world no longer has to tolerate loud, jangly sling attachments, hooks that eat up aluminum and plastic eyelets, or hardware pieces that take too long to attach and remove. With the Patent Pending ULoop finally on the scene, the hook and clip extinction event has begun.

The ULoop brings a level of versatility that is unmatched by any other sling hardware. Development code named the “Uber Loop,” it is a quick-detach version of our popular Universal Wire Loop, offering even faster and easier installation, especially on smaller eyelets found on HK, SIG and FN Weapons. The ULoop can be installed almost anywhere – through eyelets, holes in railed handguards, and on KeyMod rails.  There’s no need to have multiple sling attachments. The ULoop replaces all hooks, clips and connections.

American Knife & Tool Institute Increases Lobbying Efforts to Ensure Protection of Lawful Knife Owners

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

Organization to Focus on Federal and State Efforts Including the Knife Owners’ Protection Act, Repeal of Restrictions on Auto-Open Knives, and Preemption

Las Vegas, NV – January 19, 2016 – The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) today announced its plans to increase its lobbying efforts in order to prompt reform of knife laws in 2016.

To accomplish this reform, AKTI has brought on ADS Ventures, a Boston, MA and Washington, DC-based government and public affairs firm with a practice specializing in defense and national security issues. The team, headed by Liesl Grebenstein and supported by Savannah Kelleher, has been working with AKTI for several years, but the new contract will enhance efforts focused on federal efforts to pass the Knife Owners’ Protection Act (KOPA), and state efforts to ease restrictions on auto-open knives, as well as preemption. The legislative reform agenda will ensure the protection of knife owners’ Constitutional rights.

“AKTI has an aggressive legislative reform agenda in 2016,” said CJ Buck, AKTI’s Board President. “We are confident that through AKTI’s leadership, and the work of ADS Ventures, it will be a successful year for the organization as we further our mission to ensure your right to own, carry, and use knives and edged tools.”

For nearly 20 years, AKTI has served as the go-to resource for knife owners looking to ensure that they comply with all local, state, and federal laws related to knives. One of the biggest complaints and points of confusion AKTI hears about from lawful knife owners involves the patchwork laws related to the ownership and possession of knives. While citizens are making every effort to comply with patchwork state and local laws, it has become clear that there is the need for comprehensive reform.

“AKTI and its members have been successful in clarifying and correcting poorly conceived and ambiguous legislation and educating legislators on knife issues on behalf of all knife owners,” said David Fee, AKTI’s Legislative Chair. “We support reasonable, responsible legislation and measured non-partisan efforts to resolve issues. We’re excited to see how we can further this objective in this and coming years.”

More about AKTI

The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) is a non-profit organization (501(c)6) representing all segments of the knife industry and all knife users. Formed in true grassroots fashion by concerned industry leaders after considerable discussion with individual knifemakers, knife magazine publishers, and a broad section of the knife community, AKTI has been the reasonable and responsible voice of the knife community since 1998. AKTI’s mission is to ensure that Americans will always be able to make, buy, sell, own, carry and use knives and edged tools. To learn more, please visit www.akti.org.
