Tactical Tailor – Raider Pack

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

The Pacific Northwest Pack Series began as a project to fulfil a solicitation for a suite of SOCOM packs. Our designs for this solicitation were brought about with input from actual SOF soldiers who took these packs to the field throughout the design process and brought back their impressions and recommendations for improvements. We took their advice back to our designers who then continually refined the packs until they met the exacting standards of these elite soldiers.

The Raider pack was designed as an alpine style pack for long range while carrying lighter loads. The Raider stands out in the Pacific Northwest Pack series, as unlike the other packs in the series, it is built with its own internal frame, straps and hip belt with nothing else needed to be ready to go. With a 3100 cubic inch capacity and an empty weight of 5.2 pounds, it truly is a light weight, long range pack.

Just because we designed the Raider as a light weight pack, does not mean we scrimped on the details. This pack is loaded with all the features you would expect from a Tactical Tailor pack. Starting at the top, you’ll find a clamshell style zipper that will let you access the entire contents of your pack. No more digging through your entire pack to find that one missing item. You’ll also find left and right side zippered access to hydration, an RTO zipper pass through and an oversized pocket on both sides for rifle buttstocks, 84mm rounds or just about anything else you can think to strap to the side of this pack. Rounding out the details are a heavy duty carry handle, multiple MOLLE attachment points, integrated load lifters and side compression straps. The Raider is also STRLLS and H Harness compatible for airborne operations.

Daniel Defense Rifle Featured on Cover of ‘Popular Mechanics’ Special Forces Issue

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Black Creek, GA – April 12, 2016 – Daniel Defense, engineer and manufacturer of the world’s finest firearms and accessories, is pleased to announce that its MK18 Factory SBR rifle will appear on the cover of the upcoming issue of Popular Mechanics. In the May 2016 “Tough Guys”-themed issue, the magazine highlights “The Future of Special Forces,” and its cover features a model decked out in gear typically used by Special Forces operators, including a conspicuously held DD MK18 rifle.

“This is a major accomplishment for us and our Team,” said Daniel Defense Chief Marketing Officer, Cindy Daniel. “Both in terms of prestige and in exposure of our rifle, and our company, to a whole new audience—one not necessarily part of the tactical or hunting communities.”

Daniel Defense leveraged its extensive media relations to get the MK18 featured on the Popular Mechanics cover in order to reach a “more mainstream” audience. While Daniel Defense rifles and products have been featured in various publications over the years, most of those publications were tactical- and/or hunting/outdoor-themed. Popular Mechanics, part of Hearst Direct Media, promotes itself as “the essential handbook for curious, active people” and operates under the tagline “How Your World Works.” Its circulation is 1.2 million, and the magazine is most popular with men between the ages of 35 and 49.

The DD MK18 rifle features the RIS II Rail System Daniel Defense currently provides to US SOCOM, and a 10.3” Cold Hammer Forged Barrel. It has an MSRP of $1749 and is available directly from Daniel Defense (www.danieldefense.com) or authorized retailers. Along with the DD MK18, several other best-selling tactical products are featured on the PM cover and within the issue, including a SureFire SOCOM Series 5.56mm suppressor, a Tactical Night Vision Company Tactical Application Pressure Switch (TNVC TAPS), and an Insight ATPIAL-C (AN/PEQ-15) Advanced Target Pointer/Illuminator Aiming Laser.

The May 2016 Popular Mechanics issue hits newsstands the week of April 11, 2016. To learn more about the magazine or to read highlighted stories, visit: www.popularmechanics.com.

Not for EFMB!  I’m not even sure they still make those old angle head D-cell lights.

Marine South – Quantico Tactical / Vortex Optics

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Another interesting item I saw in the Quantico Tactical booth was this scope cap insert from Vortex Optics. These Dope Disks were announced awhile ago but I hadn’t seen any in the wild. They are designed to fit into the Vortex Defender Flip Caps which are offered in 44mm, 50mm and 56mm so they will fit a wide variety of optics. The Defender Flip Caps have two stop positions; 45 and 90 degrees. What’s really cool is that the removable Dope Disks can be custom ordered for different ammunition.

This and other weapon accessories are available via Quantico Tactical.

Marine South – Streamlight TLR-6

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Streamlight’s TLR-6 is designed specifically for use with subcompact semiauto pistols such as the Glock 26, 27, 33, 42, 43; M&P Shield 9 amd 40; Kimber Micro; SIG P238 and P938 as well as the wide variety of Kahr subcompact pistols. The way they do this is through a variety of housings that use the same light/laser module.  As you can see, the idea was to conform to these smaller frames as much as possible by connecting to the trigger guard.

The activation button of the 100 lumen pistol light is on either side of the TLR-6 and could be a reach for those with short fingers. To change modes from light to laser, you must push both buttons at once. However, the two 3v CR-1/3N lithium batteries provide one hour of dual 100 lumen light and laser mode. They can be swapped out without removing the light from the pistol. It is IPX4 water resistant to 1 meter.

Marine South – Darley Offers HSP D3CR Rig and Mission Spec Rigit

Monday, April 11th, 2016

Darley Defense is a contract holder for the Defense Logistics Agency’s Special Operations Tailored Logistics Program. TLS offers government organizations, including military units, to purchase commercial Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment via interagency funding transfer mechanisms. The various companies on TLS are under contract to DLA and the customer buys the items from DLA. As far as the unit is concerned, they are buying from the supply system but getting the latest and greatest from industry.

One of the items I noticed Darley had available was the Disruptive Environments Chest Rig from Haley Strategic Partners. This rig was designed for HSP by Darin Talbot aka Eggroll, and is quite popular. It’s adaptive to different loads and is Berry compliant. The D3CR can be worn via its H-harness or, using SwiftClips attached directly to an armor vest.

The D3CR will accept AR type magazines as well as AK 7.62 x39mm and 5.45 x 39 magazines. The Multi-Mission Pouches accept 1911, Glock, Sig, M&P, XD and other standard double or single stack pistol magazines, as well as many handheld lights and multi-tools.  There are also two flapped GP pouches in either side but something you won’t see on any other chest rigs out there is the STUFFIT pouch which accepts a wide variety of odd-sized loads.

They’ve paired it with the Rigit from Mission Spec, a PALS adapter for armor carriers which offers SwiftClip QD mount points for rigs like the D3CR and others such as those offered by Mayflower.

This video gives you an idea of how the Rigit works.

While I know units have ordered a lot of different items over the years, this one hadn’t crossed my mind as something a unit might purchase via TLS. It serves as a great example and just goes to show how responsive TLS to the needs of its customers.
