Warrior West 21 – Warhorse Development Butcher Boy Mk 2

Thursday, July 1st, 2021

The Butcher Boy Mk 2 is a versatile shooting stabilization platform from Warhorse Development.

The inspiration for this model this is the Army’s Squad Designated Marksmanship Rifle, but they offer an entire line of bags. You’ll notice the QD sling mounts which match up with the Geissele rail on the SDMR to keep it attached to the rifle.

These Berry compliant, four legged soft platforms are filled with polymer beads and can be squeezed to get the right level of support for different shooting positions. The body is 1000D Cordura and the top is HANK to keep the rifle from moving around on the platform.

One last thing that’s cool about Warhorse Development products, they’re named after actual warhorses in history. For example, Butcher Boy was one of General Grant’s horses.

Warhorse Development products are available for unit and agency orders from ADS, Inc.

Bushnell Releases New Prime 1800 Laser Rangefinder

Thursday, July 1st, 2021

New LRF Serves as Milestone in Bushnell’s History of Laser Rangefinder Development

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – June 30, 2021 – Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, has announced the introduction of the newest addition to its laser rangefinder lineup – the Prime 1800. Packed with added features such as Bushnell’s all-new ACTIVSYNC™ display system that fluidly morphs from black to red readouts based on lighting conditions, the Prime 1800 builds on the success of Bushnell’s 25-year legacy of laser rangefinder development.

With its all-glass, fully multi-coated optical path and extra-large laser aperture window, the Prime 1800 boasts double the light transmission over other competitive models. The Prime 1800 has also been designed for all day viewing capability made possible by the new ACTIVSYNC display. This intuitive display feature fluidly morphs automatically from black in the daylight to red in low-light conditions so users can always see their readings, whether at sunrise, midday, or dusk. The display can even show red and black simultaneously if the environment requires it.

“In order to fully leverage the excellent 2x brightness from our laser rangefinders, we knew adding an illuminated display would give users the ability to use it throughout the entire legal hunt time,” said Derek Osburn, Director of Optics for Vista Outdoor. “However, we also knew that we wanted to go further and apply our 25-year history of laser rangefinder innovation to this feature and have done so with the new ActivSync display. This intuitive design gives you a red or black display exactly when you need it, making it even easier to get an exact distance quickly and accurately.”

The new Prime 1800 offers effective ranging capabilities out to 1,800-yard on a reflective target and can reliably range trees out to 1,000 yards or deer out to 700 yards with +/- one-yard accuracy. The Prime 1800 comes equipped with Scan mode for fast ranging, as well as near/far target modes to allow users to home in on targets while ignoring objects in the foreground and background. The rangefinder also comes equipped with ARC (Angle Range Compensation) technology for angle readings in the field.

The Prime 1800 rangefinder includes a built-in tripod mount and lanyard holes, giving users multiple setup options to keep the rangefinder secure and stable. A threaded metal battery door can be found on the bottom of the rangefinder and a CR2 battery is included so the Prime 1800 is ready right out of the box.

Backed by Bushnell’s 5-year Lifetime Ironclad warranty, the Prime 1800 rangefinder is engineered and manufactured to withstand the ultimate test of years of use in the field. The Prime 1800 carries an MSRP of $249.99 and is available now.

Sneak Peek – Nike React SFB Carbon

Thursday, July 1st, 2021

Coming soon from Nike is the React SFB Carbon.

It oncorprates Nike’s stiff carbon fiber Flyplate technology which they claim optimizes your stride while providing support to help minimize fatigue, ease pressure on your Achilles and reduce slipping inside the shoe. The plate acts as an internal rock shield while the outsole helps prevent punctures.

This is combined with Nike React foam which combines comfort with energy return. The more energy you put into your step, the more you get in return.

The outsole is a combination of hard and sticky rubbers make up the aggressive sole pattern, giving you durability in heavy strike zones and exceptional traction in natural and urban environments. Rubber teeth in the arch provide added grip when you’re climbing ropes or covering rugged terrain.

Fabric wraps the midsole for reinforcement and stability. They’ve also included a solid rubber reinforced toe.

Finally, the React SFB Carbon comes with heavy-duty laces with Kevlar core and the there’s a lace stow to keep them out of the way.

These will be offered in Black and Coyote.

Canadian Special Operations Forces Command Statement on the Summary Investigation into a Small Arms Weapons Incident that occurred on November 5, 2020

Thursday, July 1st, 2021

After an investigation into the incident, CANSOFCOM just released their statement on the November 5, 2020 unintentional discharge of a holstered SIG P320. The statement concludes that debris in the holster caused the incident and verifies that the holster was not the proper holster for the weapon. However, they go on to say that a properly fit holster would not have prevented the incident. I’m sure holster manufacturers will have something to say about that. Investigation into the incident will apparently continue.

As a reminder, here is our article containing SIG’s statement on the incident after it was disclosed by CBC on February 5, 2021.

June 30, 2021 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

The Summary Investigation into the unintended discharge of a holstered pistol during a Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) training event on November 5, 2020 is complete.

The investigation found that the procurement process and execution of the training event were not contributing factors to the incident, and that no technical failure occurred within the pistol. The pistol functioned as per the requirements as demonstrated by the weapons technical experts who trialed thousands of rounds without a reoccurrence. The probability of this same incident reoccurring is assessed to be extremely low.

The investigation concluded the primary probable cause of the incident was due to a partial depression of the trigger by a foreign object combined with simultaneous movement of the slide against the pistol frame that then allowed a round to be fired whilst the pistol was still holstered. The investigation also determined that the previously issued holster employed at the time had not been modified for the new pistol. While the investigation concluded the use of a holster not specifically designed for the new weapon was found to be a contributing factor, it determined the use of any other holster would not necessarily have prevented the incident.

The investigation made several recommendations in the areas of further improvements to the process when procuring leading-edge equipment, fielding improvements and weapon system modification.

Central to the decision on the way forward is ensuring our members’ utmost confidence in the effectiveness and safety of their equipment and weapons. As such, the Command assembled a working group consisting of operators, weapons experts and procurement specialists to develop and assess a number of options.

CANSOFCOM leadership has directed a safety/risk assessment be conducted by a third party before taking a final decision on a way forward. This safety/risk assessment will take a number of months to complete.

Milrem Robotics and InnoVfoam Present the Multiscope Rescue Hydra UGV at Sofins

Thursday, July 1st, 2021

The European leading robotics and autonomous systems developer and system integrator Milrem Robotics and InnoVfoam, the specialist in foam extinguishing technology present the Multiscope Rescue Hydra unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) at the Sofins exhibition held in France from June 29 until July 1st.

The jointly developed firefighting solution combines Milrem Robotics’ unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) Multiscope Rescue and InnoVfoam’s Hydra fire monitor and foam proportioning system.

The firefighting robot can be remotely operated by firefighters who remain at a safe distance while receiving a complete overview of the operation area via various cameras, i.e. thermal and infrared, and sensors onboard the robot that can additionally detect gas or chemical leaks.

The fire monitors can be operated independently from the UGV thanks to separate cameras on the UGV and the monitors allowing the vehicle to change position while maintaining a perfect overview of the fire. The system can also be complemented with additional preventive and repressive systems and autonomous functions.

”The Multiscope Rescue Hydra developed together with InnoVfoam can alleviate dangers firefighters face and help contain fires faster,” said Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics. “This is also an ideal tool for military rescue services that face the same challenges as other firefighters,” he added.

The Multiscope Rescue has a maximum payload capacity of 1200 kg and pull force of 15 000 N allowing it to be equipped with a variety of firefighting specific payloads including foam or water tanks, but also tethered drones for better situational awareness.

Robot firefighters can also deliver heavy firehoses to reach areas and enter structures that are inaccessible with bigger vehicles or may collapse on top of firefighters. They also help firefighters conserve energy and time. In case of forest or landscape fires, the robot firefighters can be airdropped to start limiting the spread of fires.

InnoVfoam’s fire monitors can dispense water and foam from 2000 up to 20 000 liters per minute.
