UF PRO to Unveil Breakthrough Invisible Cloaking Pattern

Monday, April 1st, 2019

Invisible Camo Flatlay

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (1 April 2019)— UF PRO® today announced it has discovered the Holy Grail of camouflage, a pattern impossible to see even when standing within arm’s length of the wearer.

The maker of advanced-technology tactical jackets, shirts, pants, hats, caps, and accessories said it plans to show off this camouflage at a private unveiling ceremony set at an undisclosed location. The company added that defence ministers and top military commanders from around the world are expected to attend for a first-hand look.

“There’s never been anything like this fully invisible camouflage because, to the human eye, there’s not anything there at all,” said a beaming Armin Wagner, head of UF PRO® product development.

“At UF PRO® we always strive to challenge the status quo,” he continued. “That’s why we decided to develop full-invisibility camouflage—and in so doing take our European and worldwide reputation as a best-in-class camouflage resource to a unique, new level. Specifically, a UF PRO® level.”

Wagner hailed the new product as a “masterpiece of invisibility.” He said the technical craftsmanship involved in its creation was unprecedented among makers of combat uniforms.

Corps Strength: Transitional Disconnect, Road Blocks and Magical Thinking

Saturday, March 23rd, 2019

This past weekend I spent some time on the road with our Anti-Terrorism/Anti-Piracy class. During all our courses we build time into the schedule to make trips outside of Pensacola to attend training from other bases/agencies and to enjoy some liberty together. I often learn more about my students and their countries on these trips than I do in the classroom, as things are always different (and more open), when you get away from the flag pole. In any case, during this recent trip I was accompanied by an active duty U.S. Navy Senior Chief. He’s currently dealing with some foot injuries and from that, weight gain. During the trip we discussed diet and PT quite a bit. He told me while his foot injury has made maintaining weight standards extra tough, he admitted that he’s struggled with weight for his entire Navy career. However, while speaking to him it was obvious that he had a lot of knowledge about diet and exercise. While it may seem counter-intuitive that a person who is overweight and out of shape would have good knowledge on this, but I’ve found this to be a very common thing.
As we all know, many people struggle with their weight and in our present age of 24/7 cable TV, social media and the internet the world is awash with diet and weight loss information (good and bad). There is also no doubt that people who struggle with their weight spend a lot of time and money trying all kinds of different plans. It’s a multi-billion dollar business and I personally know a lot of people who’ve attempted dozens of different diets and workout plans over the years. Sadly, the vast majority yielded very poor long term results. Why is this? You would think that with more information out there, the more success people would have. However, in most cases the opposite is true. The sad fact is, as more information and options have become available, obesity rates have skyrocketed?

The reasons for the rise in obesity rates are many: People are less physically active in both their jobs and recreation is one reason. The greater availability of processed/fast food is another. There are many more. However, putting aside the causes for now, I want to focus in on why with all the good info out their, most people (despite their obvious knowledge) can’t get a handle on this? Based on my own experience and observation, I have a simple theory.

This problem is what I call; “Transitional Disconnect”. Now, don’t get mental, this isn’t just some high brow physco babble. I’ve actually seen this occurrence in many areas of training. What it simply means (Master Gunny speak here), is an in ability to transition what you know, into successful action.

In this case the knowledge of diet and exercise into successful weight and fitness maintenance. Why do many people have this problem? It’s not a lack of will or motivation, nor is a lack of time or funds. I think the disconnect is much simpler and more practical; Road blocks. With the vast majority of these being self imposed.

When someone makes a decision to get in shape and lose some weight they normally seek out some advice. Which like we said before, isn’t hard to find. Yes, they could get some poor advice, true. But most of the time it’s easy enough to find enough of the tried and true basic stuff, at least enough to get them started. After that it’s time to transition that knowledge into action, this is obviously the hard part and to be successful you need a clear path going forward. But this is exactly where people will unknowingly insert roadblocks that will in short order derail their plan. There are many of these roadblocks, but there are three are the most common and biggest.

1. Attempting a too strict and/or complicated program: Any eating plan that requires a lot of special foods, restrictions and supplements is doomed from the start. I could give you dozens of examples and reasons why this is true. Just trust me, it’s true for 99.9% of the real world. Real foods, in the right amounts, is the only thing that works long term. The same goes for a PT program, try to get too fancy, too intense or just too much and you will injure yourself, or burn out.

2. Losing the balance: Success in anything is really a balancing act. Work vs. Play, Family vs. Career, etc, etc. Eating and working out is no different. To work long term, eating and PT must be a part of your life, support for your life, not your life. People who are trying to lose weight and get in shape very often get this out of balance. They spend way too much time and effort (which is mostly mental) on it. It just becomes too much and then, like trying to balance on a slack line with a 50lb kettlebell in one hand, they will surely fall. Not being negative here, just realistic.

3. Expecting instant results: This a big one. The overall world of today is about instant gratification. Cell phones and the internet allow us to stay connected anywhere and almost instantly obtain the information we want. We have become spoiled in that expectation and think that it should apply to everything, including physical conditioning and weight loss. The sad fact is the human body has not kept up (nor will it ever keep up) with technology. You can’t hit a button and lose 20lbs, or download the conditioning needed to run a marathon. Sorry, the human body doesn’t work in WiFi. But, people tend to give up pretty quick if they don’t see quick improvements.

The bottom line here is that you have to change your thinking first and from that remove the roadblocks to make this work. To expect success without these changes is what I call Magical Thinking; Meaning I’ll just go into this half ass, with a half ass plan and Shazam, it will work great, like magic? Yeah, ok let me know how that works out. Then again you don’t have to tell me, I already know. Getting and keeping your self in good shape isn’t magic, it’s a combination of basic knowledge, sound planning and consistent action. Look at your lifestyle, your routine, the way you eat. From that come up with a eating and PT program that fits into your life. The most successful plans start with small improvements around the edges, not drastic changes. For example, just replacing regular soda with diet (water is better), can make losing weight a lot easier. Consistently going for a walk after dinner is another. These things may seem way too easy, but it’s the small things that you consistently do long term, that always beat out the huge changes that you do for the short term. Now, before you say it, your life is no busier than the rest of us. Mine is balls out, with family, work, travel and play going 24/7. Ask any of my exhausted family and friends that hang out with me. But that’s my life style and while everyone is different, just about anyone can make this work. In my book Corps Strength I lay out in detail how to make good eating and exercise part of your life, not your life. These things aren’t really that hard. Certainly not as hard as people make them. The key here is to remove the roadblocks to your success and that starts (like everything), with the right thinking. Think about it. Till next month.

Rheinmetall Submits Land 400 Phase 3 Bid in Australia

Sunday, March 10th, 2019

Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle and sovereign military vehicle industrial capability offered

LYNX 120mm Mortar

Rheinmetall is pleased to announce the company has lodged a bid in response to the Australian Army’s Land 400 Phase 3 – Mounted Close Combat Capability Request For Tender (RFT).

Under the tender, the Australian Army is offered the Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) with the Lance turret, Lynx Manouevre Support Vehicle (MSV), an established and growing network of suppliers across Australia, continued use of the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Queensland, and a comprehensive support and training system.

The Lynx IFV and the Lynx MSV have been designed and tested to meet the demanding requirements of the Australian Army, NATO and NATO allies. Lynx establishes a vehicle system with unmatched levels of survivability, mobility, lethality, knowledge, and growth that will excel in close combat operations.

The modular architecture of the Lynx also delivers significant cost benefits by drawing on Rheinmetall’s expertise and extensive development of contemporary combat vehicles. This results in a system that requires only two Lynx base vehicle configurations to achieve the nine roles sought under the Australian Army’s RFT. The modular system architecture also covers the four additional roles sought in the Australia Army’s Request for Information, including a mortar variant, a logistics variant, and a protected amphibious Lynx.

LYNX IFV

Lynx provides protection against the full spectrum of threats including blast, IED, direct and indirect fire, cluster munitions, and anti-tank guided missiles. With enhanced lethality and the mobility of a main battle tank, Lynx will enable Army to cope with the complex nature of warfighting in diverse environments and against a range of adaptive threats.

Rheinmetall’s Global Head of Vehicle Systems, Ben Hudson said, “the significant protected volume within the Lynx vehicle is unmatched in this class, and ensures the three crew and a minimum of six dismounts can conduct effective close combat operations while providing unrivalled growth and flexibility for the future.”

“The Australian Army deserves an Infantry Fighting Vehicle that will ensure their soldiers can fight, survive and win on the modern battlefield,” Mr Hudson said.

“If selected for Land 400 Phase 3, the Lynx will provide the Australian Army with a future-proof vehicle solution that can rapidly transition into service and be easily supported through life.”

The Rheinmetall Lance turret is contracted to be delivered to the Australian Army under Land 400 Phase 2, and will be manufactured in Brisbane for the local and export markets. The digital Lance turret provides the crew with sensor systems, advanced automatic tracking and targeting capabilities, and weapon integrated battle management all in a connected and digitally enabled platform. This common electronic architecture provides enhanced combat effectiveness for the crew, generating a range of scalable and precise effects to deal with threats on the current and future battlefield.

LYNX Protected Amphibious Vehicle

Rheinmetall is creating an enduring Australian capability with the construction of the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) near Brisbane. By the time Land 400 Phase 3 is contracted, the MILVEHCOE and its supporting national military vehicle industry network of Australian suppliers will be qualified for all of the common systems and components required for the Rheinmetall Lynx and Lance solution.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia’s Managing Director, Gary Stewart said, “the Australian Army will benefit from the Lynx IFV that will be designed, built and supported from the MILVEHCOE, with an expanded Australia-wide military vehicle industrial network.”

“This national approach will directly reduce the total cost of ownership for Defence, create long term highly skilled regional jobs, and deliver enduring economic benefit through a strong sovereign military vehicle industry,” Mr Stewart said.

Components and designs already incorporated into the Lynx platform are supplied from companies located around Australia like Supashock in Adelaide, Cablex in Melbourne, Bisalloy Steels in Wollongong, and Milspec Manufacturing in Albury.

LYNX Air Transport on a C17

Ongoing investment by Rheinmetall in research and product development directly contributes to Australian Lynx and Lance designs and foundation technologies. Coupled with targeted global opportunities, this creates new export orders for Australian industry.

UF PRO to Spotlight Super-Effective Camo Patterns, Next-Gen BDU, Cool New Colour at 2019 Enforce Tac and IWA

Monday, March 4th, 2019

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (4th March 2019) — UF PRO® today announced plans to exhibit its newest military-focused product lineup at both the Enforce Tac and IWA Outdoor Classics trade shows in Germany during the month of March.

Spotlighted at both events will be an innovative camouflage pattern that sows confusion in the subconscious mind by wildly scrambling the brain’s ability to correctly interpret what the eyes see, said the maker of advanced-technology jackets, shirts, pants, hats, caps, and accessories for military and law-enforcement units.

Prym1 Striker BDU

UF PRO® said it also will premier at the two shows a next-generation combat uniform. The new BDU is part of the company’s popular Striker range of tactical wear. It offers a super-rugged design, reconfigurable special pockets, and exceptionally easy field-repair capability, the company reported.

Additionally, UF PRO® indicated it intends to introduce the Hunter Gen.2 FZ Jacket, an upgraded version of its acclaimed light-shelled Hunter FZ jacket for damp and cold spring days. The Hunter Gen.2 FZ Jacket features reinforced sides, extra Velcro® covers on the upper arms, an improved hem design, the company said.

Steel Grey Striker BDU

Further, UF PRO® promised to trot out Steel Grey, a new colour option for a select range of the company’s garments.

Phantom LEAF Striker BDU

Meanwhile, attendees of Enforce Tac will get a glimpse of what a BDU from UF PRO®’s current catalogue looks like when decked out in the highly flexible PHANTOMLEAF camouflage pattern. PHANTOMLEAF is an algorithmically designed, auto-adaptive camouflage pattern that can be modularly combined to produce a total camouflage system suited to virtually any environment or condition. The company cautioned that only government organizations can purchase this pattern, available on demand, from UF PRO®.

Another camouflage pattern set for viewing is PRYM1, which will only be shown to UF PRO® booth visitors at IWA. The company said it will demonstrate using a currently available UF PRO® BDU how PRYM1’s tiny, differently shaped dots of various pure colours fragment visible light to create a blending effect similar to that which enables wildlife predators—leopards, for example—to go totally unnoticed by their quarry.

CONCAMO Striker BDU

The camouflage pattern UF PRO® will exhibit at both Enforce Tac and IWA is called CONCAMO. Developed in Germany, CONCAMO is short for “confusion camouflage”—a name that reflects the pattern’s ability to trick observers at the subconscious level, said Armin Wagner, head of product development for UF PRO®.

“The pattern features eight colours blended through various elements and shadings to produce more than 60 layers of perceivable depth,” Wagner explained. “We’re very excited to be able to offer CONCAMO. It’s an incredibly effective concealment system that works beautifully in a spectrum of environments—forests, grasslands, deserts, snow country, even urban areas.”

Wagner indicated that the Striker Combat Uniform in CONCAMO can already be acquired on the company’s website and selected UF PRO distribution partners.

The Enforce Tac show is set for 6-7 March at the exhibition centre in Nuremberg.

The UF PRO® booth will be located in hall 12 at booth 418.

“Enforce Tac is where police, security officials, and members of the military from across Europe and beyond gather to see what’s new and exciting in the way of products and ideas to help them do their jobs more successfully and safely,” said Wagner. “This is an event we are extremely pleased to be part of and we look forward to meeting lots of old friends there as well as making many new ones.”

The IWA Outdoor Classics show follows right on the heels of Enforce Tac. IWA starts 8 March and continues for the next three days. It, too, takes place at the Nuremberg exhibition centre.

The UF PRO® booth will be located in hall 9, stand 301.

“IWA is a major trade fair where vendors display products for hunting, sport shooting, self-defense, camping, and other outdoor recreational activities,” Wagner said. “This event attracts civilians, but it also typically draws huge crowds of military and law-enforcement personnel. We’re honored to be exhibiting there again this year.”
