S.O.Tech x GWA ARVN Pack Redux in Tiger Stripe

Wednesday, April 6th, 2022

“A combination of the old tried and true with modern technology – a reflection of SOTECH.”

Respecting the calls for us to reintroduce our h-harnesses and belts, we recognized a trend to go back to the battle tested designs of the past. In doing so, we wanted to honor our beginnings by doing a reboot of an ALICE Pack predecessor – the ARVN Ranger Pack, a favorite of MACV-SOG and other SOF units.

At a base level, this is a hat tip to our early days modifying ALICE packs, but it’s much more significant than that. SOTECH started in a time when we were issued the same tired designs that barely evolved from World War Two through Korea and Vietnam and into the Cold War of the 80’s.

There was a creativity born from lessons from the field, and a handful of innovators started companies to modify and then create alternatives. In this vein, we took the day pack version of what would become the ALICE and modernized and modified the design with Tegris and improved cuts (the pack was designed for small-framed Vietnamese soldiers). The result is an EDC pack that takes you back to your days in BDUs every time you cinch that ribbed web through those metal tabler buckles.

The ARVN pack meticulously recreated, every small detail accounted for. Original steel hardware upcycled from original issued kit.

Updates from the original:

-Updated 420D Nylon vs canvas. Same nylon as the Medium and Large ALICE packs

-Snap closure front 2 pockets for easier and faster access

-Hidden HDPE insert with foam backer for extra comfort

-Updated frame, from steel to modern laser cut Tegris, designed in collab. with GWA

-Repositioned bottom shoulder strap ring to the side for extra comfort

S.O.Tech x GWA ARVN Packs in Tiger will run $200.

Packs go live on sotechtactical.com main page on 4/8 at 12pm PST.

High Speed Gear’s Medical Monday Features Tourniquet TACOs

Monday, April 4th, 2022

SWANSBORO, N.C. –April 4, 2022 – Whether you are a service member training in the field, forward deployed, a law enforcement officer or training on your own, tourniquet (TQ) pouches are essential items to carry. High Speed Gear® offers TQ pouches so you can access your life-saving equipment rapidly.

As tactical gear companies, both High Speed Gear® and Comp-Tac® Holsters take their mission seriously and that is to be able to provide those who serve our country with gear that they can rely on every day. Taking preventive steps by carrying a TQ can change the outcome of emergencies.

In 2019, the Tourniquet TACO® was designed at High Speed Gear® headquarters to have the adjustability of the TACO®, in a tourniquet pouch form. The design was intended so users can deploy various windlass-style tourniquets quickly for intense pressure scenarios. However, it can be used with or without the pull tab for an open-top pouch, much like the Kydex® Tourniquet TACO®.

Shortly after the Tourniquet TACO® was released, Comp-Tac Holsters™ (a division of High Speed Gear®) released two different Kydex® Tourniquet TACOs®, for those that enjoy the “hard shell” TACO® pouches. These function much like the original Tourniquet TACO®, allowing the use of SAM® XT, C-A-T®, SOF® TT, and SOF® TT Wide tourniquets in just one pouch.

SCUBAPRO Sunday – Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA)

Sunday, April 3rd, 2022

I had the privilege of visiting and getting a tour of The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) facility at Joint Base Pearl Harbor- Hickam. Talk about a very moving experience. The work that they do is second to known in the world. The United States is the only country that actively searches for its unaccounted for. The mission of DPAA is to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel from past conflicts to their families and the nation. Within this mission, they search for missing personnel from World War II (WWII), the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf Wars, and other recent conflicts. Their research and operational missions include coordination with hundreds of countries and municipalities worldwide.

At present, more than 81,600 Americans remain missing from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars/other conflicts. Out of the more than 81,600 missing, 75% of the losses are in the Indo-Pacific, and over 41,000 of the missing are presumed lost at sea (i.e., ship losses, known aircraft water losses, etc.).

One thing everyone can do to help is if you have any family members that are missing from WWII or newer conflicts, is to give a DNA test. This will help them to identify the remains they find. They are only allowed to get DNA samples from families. Contact you casualty assistance office.

UF PRO Striker X BDUs to Be Available in Italy’s Acclaimed Vegetato Camo Pattern for Mediterranean Environments

Thursday, March 31st, 2022

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (31 March 2022)—Maker of advanced-technology tactical garments UF PRO today revealed it will begin producing its popular Striker X Battle Dress Uniform in the Italian camouflage pattern Vegetato.

The three-piece Striker X BDU consists of Striker X Combat Pants, Striker X Combat Shirt, and Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat. All three will be available in Vegetato; however UF PRO said it intends to make only a limited number of each in that pattern.

Vegetato was introduced in 2004 for use by Italian military units operating in the Mediterranean Basin. According to UF PRO, the Vegetato pattern provides effective concealment in virtually any semi-arid or subtropical environment dominated by small trees and dense shrubs.

UF PRO said it expects that its offering of the Striker X BDU in Vegetato will prove to be a winning maneuver.

Each of the three Striker X BDU pieces is in its own right a victory, the company added. For example, the Striker X Combat Pants represent new thinking about how combat trousers are designed and built to provide the ruggedness, knee protection, and pocket configurations required by today’s military operators.

The Striker X Combat Shirt is similarly beast-like in its ability to survive abuse thanks to its Lyocell/polyamide-knitted fabric construction and abrasion-resistant ceramic dots reinforcement.

In addition, UF PRO noted, both the shirt and pants are exceptionally comfortable. So is the Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat, which features mesh ventilation openings front and back to allow the free circulation of air around the head while the sun beats down.
