C2R-Fast Virtus Mods

Friday, April 19th, 2019

C2R-FAST is a UK-based manufacturer of tactical equipment. Virtus is the British issue armor and load carriage system. C2R-FAST is regularly asked to make modifications to VIRTUS systems. They built up this version as a proof of concept.

Over the course of 2 days, they set the target to produce a deployable system that they would be happy to put their badge onto. The stipulation they set for themselves is that it should have the same basic functionality as VIRTUS, in terms of PALS area and lines, ability to integrate a collar, abdominal panel, single point cutaway, and be completely compatible with a suite of VIRTUS soft and hard armour.

Over the first day, they set about researching and cataloguing what was being said about Virtus by users (good and otherwise).

As always there are compromises in the process, so little details like keeping the cutaway handle in the same place, or the number of vertical PALS webbing on the front had to be maintained as part of being true to the challenge.

Day 2 was all about the build.

By the end of day 2 they had a working system with a number of functionality improvements that tie into C2R heritage; like a good size admin pocket on the front, hydration pocket built into the rear, cable routing over the shoulders and dual purpose radio/magazine pockets in the flanks.

There’s a lot more other things that they’ve added, alongside a 20% weight saving.

they plan to release details of how it gets on in the field.

NP Aerospace Set for Global Growth Under New Ownership

Thursday, April 18th, 2019

James Kempston, CEO, NP Aerospace

NP Aerospace, formerly part of Morgan Advanced Materials, is set to strengthen its leading position in the Global Defence and Security Market under new ownership.

The company is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced armour technology for personal protection and military vehicle platforms. It has been jointly acquired by the PFN Group of Companies* and former NP Aerospace Executive, James Kempston, who is now CEO.

NP Aerospace products protect the lives of servicemen and women across the world, enhancing national security and resilience in the highest threat environments. The company is a major exporter of ballistic helmets and shields, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) suits, body armour plates and composite vehicle armour systems, developed using ultra-lightweight, high performance materials.

NP Aerospace has integrated and supported over 2,000 military vehicles, including more than 700 of the UK MoD’s Cougar fleet of vehicles used in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has also supplied over 1 million combat helmets to UK, Canada, Italy and NATO allies and 200,000 body armour plates to the British and Canadian Armed Forces.

James Kempston, CEO, NP Aerospace comments: “The Security and Defence markets are seeing increased demand in terms of exports, innovation and technology. NP Aerospace is ideally placed to introduce ballistic armour innovation that ensures the highest level of protection and mobility for military and law enforcement personnel whilst maintaining cost efficiency.

“We have a long history in the materials manufacturing industry having started life as part of the Courtaulds Group in 1926. We entered the defence market in 1979 after winning the contract to supply the UK Armed Forces with combat helmets and have since then expanded our presence, improving armour technology and threat protection levels.

Mission Spec Changes The Armor Game

Monday, April 1st, 2019

Mission Spec has just released the first look at their new LOMOP™ (Large Or Multiple Operator Platecarrier).  At first it appears to be just another large plate carrier but when you see it to scale against a ‘normal’ carrier you will come to one of two conclusions.  Either Mission Spec is gearing up for a genetically engineered super soldier program or someone has been thinking outside of the box.

When asked, the project leader cleared things up. “Other companies are producing stand-alone armor solutions to protect multiple team members at once.  We are attacking the problem from another angle.  From scale, really.  Why invent a new solution when you can simply scale up what you already have?”

While it looks as if it was designed for one huge shooter, “Which is always an option if the world ever gets it’s genetic engineering priorities right.” Added the same project leader, the LOMOP is designed to house two operators at once.  One shooter supports a single oversized shoulder strap with another shooter doing the same on the opposite side.  At anytime the LOMOP can be rested on the floor and utilized as a fighting position.

Dignitary protection will also find the LOMOP useful. Imagine a scenario where a VIP has just been recovered from hostile force.  The LOMOP can completely envelope the principle while an operator on either side (still under cover) can fight and move to egress.

Currently there is no level 4 armor insert available to fit the LOMOP but Mission Spec is working on that problem now. “We have contacted many armor producers, but they all seem to think it is a joke and hang up laughing before we can explain the benefits.  Some people in this industry have no ability to look forward to the future.”  The project leader remarked.

Look for the LOMOP to start deploying to teams in Q3 of 2019. This will be an ITAR item.
