When we last told you about the SureFire Advanced Rifle Operating Core and Optimized Bolt Carrier we weren’t sure when it would be available commercially. But SureFire had the OBC on display at SHOT Show and told us the first run are just finishing up production.
While the entire AROC consists of an enhanced Bolt Carrier Group, Barrel Extension, Buffer and Spring, the OBC is a drop-in Bolt Carrier Group which fits both piston and DI ARs.
The OBC features an internal weight which is spring loaded in both directions. This, along with the other elements, combine to offer additional travel time. When the Bolt is at the end of its stroke while using a Mil-Spec BCG, it takes 28 milliseconds for the bolt to travel back into battery. With the OBC, it’s 38 milliseconds. That slight difference is signifigant, especially when firing full auto or suppressed, or both. You’ll also notice that the gas key has a single screw. It comes with a 2 oz H2S buffer and an included Action Spring offers additional tension.

SIG is introducing a 300 BLK Upper Reciever Group which is compatible with both MCX and AR-style lowers. This short stroke gas piston upper features a 6.75″ barrel with a permanently attached 19 baffle, Titanium suppressor. It has two gas settings for use with sub and supersonic ammunition.
Remember, this is a piston upper so the lower receiver extension isn’t required. Consequently, it will come with the 1913 adapter to facilitate use with the AR lower reciever. This adapter accepts SIG’s 1913 compatible (vertical orientation) stocks. Additionally, the SUR300 comes with a Matchlite Duo trigger.
No word yet on whether this is based on SIG’s submission for the Naval Special Warfare Personal Defense Weapon program which is also in 300 BLK. Additionally, it looks like it may have applied some lessons learned from their submission for SOCOM’s Suppressed Upper Receiver Group program, which is in 5.56mm.

Earlier today, Franklin Armory sent out a teaser for their new Reformation firearm, debuting at SHOT Show.
Notice I called it a “firearm”. That’s because I’m not really sure how to characterize it. Franklin Armory claims it has an 11.5 inch barrel and yet is equipped with a conventional buttstock. Except, they go on to inform us that no tax stamp is required. It’s not a rifle, it’s not a shotgun.
In the limited amount of information they released, the claim that they have “received approval as a non-rifle from the Chief of the Fire Arms Technology Division.”
This is the first of their patent pending NRS firearms in the Reformation line. If it’s not a rifle or shotgun, what do you think it is?
