Finland has begun fielding Combat Uniform System M23 for the Jaeger Brigade, Lapland Air Command and Lapland Border Guard as a replacement for the M05 ensemble.

Developed in conjunction with Norway, Denmark, and Sweden under the Nordic Combat Uniform program, it is supplied by Norwegian system integrator Oskar Pedersen AS. The system does not include headgear, gloves, footwear, or PPE.
The system components are common across the program’s participants with outer layers printed in national camouflage patterns as seen here with the M05 pattern.

According to a release by the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, initial fielding is with the Jaeger Brigade in Sodankylä and Rovaniemi, the Lapland Air Command in Rovaniemi and the Lapland Border Guard’s Border Jaeger Company in Ivalo with underwear, and insulation layers. In addition, the camouflage suit, rainsuit and combat shirt included in the m system will be issued later. As holiday and deployment equipment, conscripts still wear the current M05 camouflage uniform.

This week our friends at ePIG Group expand their examination of NATO and commercial camouflage patterns by looking at Infra Red Reflectance using night vision devices.

The Tracer Tactical Origami Sunshade is a foldable sunshade for the Persistent Systems RDC (Rugged Display & Controller), enhancing the display in bright daylight conditions and also shielding the screens light in lowlight environments.

It is made from Squadron / B-52 Laminate and enforced with thermoplastic Tegris/Curv. Includes two small adhesive Velcro hook squares for anchoring the shade in place while in use. Requires the RDC Juggernaut Case to mount properly.

The concept came from Rampart International.

My friends in Germany at ePIG Group have produced a new video called “The ultimate camouflage comparison – NATO (KSK, Bundeswehr, US Army, USMC…) vs commercial patterns.” It’s quite extensive at an hour and a half, and there’s a lot you can glean from the video including some info on Phantomleaf.

Although the pattern has been kept under wraps, photos have recently been made public of the new Defence Forces camouflage pattern which will soon replace the four-color DPM, in service since 2000. Although called Disruptive Pattern Material, like the old British national pattern, the two patterns don’t resemble one another.
In Irish, the Defence Forces are referred to officially as Óglaigh na hÉireann and consist of the Army, Air Corps and Naval Service, along with reserve forces.

Developed by Crye Precision, this new national pattern owes some obvious design cues and color palette from MultiCam. However, there is a very distinctive element in the Irish Transitional MultiCam Pattern. You’ll notice two stylized versions of the letter “F” which stand for Fianna Fáil (not the political party).
In addition to ITMP, Irish troops will also be receiving a completely new clothing ensemble called the DF Combat Clothing System. Cost estimates for the new gear are at upwards of €40 million which is still under development and will feature versions in both male and female sizing.
