SMA Dailey was on Capital Hill earlier this week, showing off the latest versions of the proposed ‘Pinks and Greens’ service dress uniform. The name of this World War Two-inspired uniform comes from the popular name for the private purchase officer’s uniform which had an OD coat and Rose trousers.
This is also the first time we’ve seen a maternity version of the uniform.
This is the latest information we have on the uniform components:
Male Coat:
Dark drab green, four-button design with a belt and likely with a bi-swing back. Officers have ½-inch brown braid
Female Coat:
Similar to the above, but without the top pockets (PEO Soldier acknowledges the difficulty of aligning accouterments without top pockets, but struggles with how to maintain a bust line that lays well when it incorporates top pockets or flaps). The prototype coat is about 2 inches shorter than the current ASU Coat
Male Trousers:
Taupe color and similar to current design, but without trouser braid for enlisted and NCOs. Officers’ braid is still not decided
Female Slacks:
Incorporates side-seam pockets, but no back pockets. Likely will have some hidden waistband pockets to provide added utility for Class B wear. Will likely incorporate a comfort waistband
Female Skirt:
Pencil design with comfort waistband, likely cut with a “V.” Skirt will incorporate a “V” or kick pleat at back hem
Male Shirt:
Currently proposed as a poly-wool plain-weave tan cloth. Tapered design will have the similar pockets as the ASU shirt, but no creases. Enlisted will not have shoulder loops, but will wear sleeve chevrons. Officers might have shoulder loops, but may also wear collar rank (TBD)
Female Shirt:
Similar to the untuck version of the ASU shirt in general design
Ties:
For both males and females, likely the same color as the coat
Headgear:
Unisex Service Caps with “walnut” brown leather visors and chin straps, incorporating the iconic “crushed” look of WWII. The uniform will also have garrison caps
Footwear:
Brown leather with brown socks
Overall CSA Guidance:
Make the uniform as functionally comfortable as possible without giving up a sharp, military appearance. Make the female uniforms as close as possible to the male uniforms without compromising female anatomical fit. Reduce the “bling” on the uniform by limiting pin-on items, perhaps incorporating subdued buttons, etc.

SHOT Show 18 – Kitanica
Tuesday, January 30th, 2018Kitanica continues to make products right here in the USA and their product line continues to expand.
They showed this new, as-yet-unnamed soft shell jacket at SHOT Show. It features a hood, dual chest patch pockets, zippered handwarmer pockets on either side, zippered forearm and shoulder pockets on the right arm and a combination two-compartment zippered and flapped pocket on the left shoulder.

Beyond – Cappa Coat
Tuesday, January 30th, 2018At both SHOT Show and Outdoor Retailer Beyond showed off their new Kyros collection. Far and away, my favorite Jacket is the Men’s Cappa Coat.
It’s a full zip, fleece lined, hooded parka-style coat with Napoleon pockets, front patch pockets with side and top flapped entry and snap cuff tabs. The right side pocket extends up into the chest cavity, offer plenty of room for cameras and even tripods. Additionally, it features mesh interior pockets for quick access to electronics and accessories.
It will be available in Black and Manatee.
SHOT Show 18 – Viktos
Tuesday, January 30th, 2018Viktos is a new clothing brand which has one foot planted in the off road world and the other in shooting sports. It’s a great combination. I had seen it on Instagram for several months and my friend Dan Brokos has been wearing their stuff, but SHOT Show was my first chance to check it out in person. I like what I see. Although Viktos offers a full line, which even includes boot and gloves, I’m going to present you with two pants and one short.
This articulated fit is made from Cordura stretch denim and features a Cordura crotch, padded waistband with hidden pocket, oversize beltloops, Hipshoot magazine pockets, and Cashout pistol magazine coin pocket.
The name is a portmanteau of Khaki and Tactical. They are made from a NYCO blend, with gussetted crotch, padded waistband with hidden pocket, oversize beltloops, Hipshoot magazine pockets, zippered thigh pockets, and integrated web belt. Offered in Greyman, Fieldcraft (pictured), Nightfall and Spartan.
Essentially, this is the short version of the Khaktical Pants. Same features.
SHOT Show 18 – Vapour SD Jacket from Sitka Gear
Monday, January 29th, 2018Sitka Gear has introduced a new featherweight jacket called the Vapour SD, made from WL Gore’s SHAKEDRY fabric.
SHAKEDRY is a waterproof breathable fabric featuring a durable water repellant surface. It’s very thin so these garments are intended for training, rather than field use. I use a SHAKEDRY jacket from a different manufacturer as an emergency rain jacket in my daypack because it packs up into a ball the size of my fist. Water literally beads on the surface. When you take it off shake it and the water flies off. It’s dry, just like the name says.
While the jacket isn’t intended for heavy use as an outer garment, the jacket can be worn under other clothing and will still keep you dry.
Due to the material, the only color available is Black.
ORWM 17 – Saxx Introduces Tigerstripe
Sunday, January 28th, 2018I am very pleased to announce that two of my favorite things have combined. I’ve been wearing Saxx underwear for about a year. They feature a mesh cradle, called the BallPark Pouch, for your boys. Additionally, they are made from moisture-wicking 95% viscose/5% spandex fabric. Those two factors combine to make them extremely comfortable.
