OpEx 21 – Point6

Monday, October 4th, 2021

Point6 makes my favorite Merino wool socks and they exhibited on the Parabellum Prime booth at OpEx.

In addition to socks they also manufacture Merino baselayers. Up until now they’ve only been available in Black but they recently did a run in Tan which is very close to Tan 499 (Coyote). They feature flat seams, tape hang slot and Raglan sleeves (for the top).

FirstSpear Friday Focus: NEW Sage Green Stratton Flannel in 4 Ounce

Friday, October 1st, 2021

FirstSpear’s new fall weight Stratton Flannel has arrived in Sage Green Plaid! Perfect for fall weather, crisp evenings and bonfires.

These flannels are 100% American made in a lighter 4 ounce weight. Premium construction with oversized breast pockets, exterior hang loop, and two button closure on forearm and cuff. They are machine washable and oversized to accommodate 3% shrinkage after a few cycles in the wash. Please note that the Stratton Flannel is an oversized design, so step down one size from your normal T-shirt size for a standard fit.

• Offered in 4oz and 9oz weight
• Two oversized chest pockets
• Long sleeve with button cuffs
• Machine washable
• Made in the USA

“This is a heavy duty, no BS kind of flannel. It makes anything store bought look cheap and flimsy. On anything but the absolute of coldest days, a base layer and this flannel are plenty to keep you warm. And yes, everything that says size down is correct. I’m 5’7″ and 160lbs and the small is perfect on me after a wash or two.”

“I have had this flannel for about a year and it is my go to fall and winter shirt. Quality is excellent. On par or better than Filson. Does run big. I’m 6ft 200lbs with a 34 in waist and generally wear an XL. I bought a large and dried it on hot and it fits well. Probably could get away with a medium for a really fitted look.”

Delta ComPac Jacket is Newest Release from UF PRO; Highly Compressible Winter Thermal Insulation Jacket

Friday, September 24th, 2021

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (23 Sept. 2021)—UF PRO today announced it will begin selling a new tactical winter jacket—the Delta ComPac—on 7 Oct., just a few months before the freezing weather begins sweeping down.

A key feature of the Delta ComPac jacket is its ability to easily fold into its own pocket so that when stowed in a backpack it consumes little space. This makes it convenient to stow the jacket everywhere so that it’s always at the ready. Beyond its small form-factor, the lightweight jacket is also noteworthy for its ability to keep wearers comfortably warm in bitter-cold conditions.

The jacket is constructed with a water-repellent, wind-resistant face fabric and is lined with high-performance G-LOFT® thermal-insulation filling. Incorporated with the jacket’s design is UF PRO’s unique Hood/Harness system. The system lets the jacket’s hood precisely follow side-to-side rotations of the head, for an unimpeded view of their surroundings. The problem with conventional hoods is they block wearers’ line of sight by continuing to face forward when the head is turned, UF PRO said.

The Delta ComPac features insulated pockets for the hands and a pen-holding pocket secured with hook-and-loop fastener fabric—these are in addition to the large inner pocket for stowing the folded jacket.

Another Delta ComPac attribute is the jacket’s waist adjusters. These optimise comfort as well as styling by permitting wearers to define how tightly or loosely the new outerwear conforms to their body shape.

The Delta ComPac tactical winter jacket—available in Black or Brown-Grey—is priced at 189€.

The Army’s Promised “Ike”Jacket Is Happening

Thursday, September 23rd, 2021

Recently, USAFRICOM released this photo of Commanding General, Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, U.S. Army, wearing a prototype Ike Jacket as part of the World War Two-inspired Army Green Service Uniform. The optional item has been promised since the AGSU’s adoption along with a “bomber jacket.”

Last week, I saw MG Anthony Potts, PEO Soldier wearing one at DSEi in London but his aide kept him moving when I attempted to ask him about the jacket.

It’s happening; helpfully we’ll know the timeline soon.

Know as Taiga in Europe and Torraka in the US, this Swedish clothing company offers some great cold weather options. But one of their newer items at DSEi were these pants designed for Swedish Police.

You’ll notice the Grey color and the fabric is not FR but rather no-melt, no-drip.

DSEi 21 – Brigantes “On The Man”

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021

This wedge at the front of the Brigantes booth demonstrated a breadth of soldier systems capabilities offers by Brigantes and was used extensively to walk DSEi visitors through a variety of options.

Manikins were set up for Mountain & Arctic Warfare as well as Jungle and Temeprate zones.

The fabrics are from Milliken and include Milliken TactX Stretch fabric in Multicam which is a durable base fabric for performance finishes and Milliken’s best-in-class printing and shade matching.

It is a lightweight 98% plain weave nylon with 2% spandex with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. The elasticity of the fabric allows the wearer freedom of movement and gives more allowance in the action areas of the garment. The nylon face fabric offers great durability to the wearer who would be very often carrying and equipped with a heavy back pack and/or body armor plus the wearer will probably be carrying a weapon utilizing a harness/strap.

Additionally, it is highly breathable whilst at the same time providing a degree of weather protection. The garment can be used as part of a layering system or can be used as a stand-alone depending on the weather conditions. It’s a very tactile fabric and extremely pleasing and comfortable to wear.
