Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Amazingly, the UK MoD has even procured Dry Suits in MTP but serving troops still can’t purchase anything in the pattern.

Kommando Special – International Edition #1

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

We’ve long been fans of German language magazine “Kommando.” Much to our surprise that we would run across a new International edition of the magazine sitting on the news stand during our weekly visit to Barnes & Noble. According to the cover it looks to be a Quarterly publication and is very well put together. It gives the feel of a high end trade publication (which it is) and is filled with over 100 pages of color photographs of German small arms as well as the military and police units that use them. This premier issue looks to be weapons oriented but there is plenty for all students of tactical subjects contained in the text and photos.

It’s an excellent work and well worth the $9.90 cover price.

Plataxe

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Manufactured by Hardcore Hardware for Platatac, the Platxe is quite a bit different than their previous tomahawk.

The new Plataxe is designed as a impact/MOE/CQB tool and features an articulated handle to place more force of the swing onto the blade. The head features a full blade and on the reverse a reverse penetrating spike. Manufactured from D2 tool steel coated with black Teflon and topped off with a G10 contoured handle.

The sheath might just be overkill. It offers full coverage. Made from Cordura with Kydex insert it can be attached to equipment via PALS.

Available exclusively from Platatac in Coyote and Black.

Afghan SF in Ghostex Kilo-1 Pattern ADS Inc

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Previously adopted by the Afghanistan Border Police, the Ghostex Kilo-1 Pattern is now in use by Afghan Special Forces.

You may notice that the pattern is complimentary to the Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP) in use with US Army and Air Force units in Afghanistan. This is because the US Government stipulated that this pattern must have similar coloration but yet be distinctively different from OCP. This is so that the forces could work in concert during operations but would not be mistaken for one another in close proximity.

Here you can see the two patterns side by side.

Ghostex is a joint venture between ADS Inc and Canada-based HyperStealth Biotechnology Corporation.

Honour House Society

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Just like here in the US, when Canadian troops and first responders are wounded, their treatment is regularly far from their hometowns. This separation from family takes an emotional toll and all too often family members come to stay closer to their wounded loved ones. This brings on an entirely different burden; financial. Honour House is a Canadian effort to provide a temporary home for families of Canadian Forces and first responders while members of these organizations are receiving medical care in the Metro Vancouver area.

Please review their site and consider supporting their efforts. www.honourhouse.ca

Contact: Air, Land and Sea

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

The most recent edition of the Australian military magazine, Contact: Air, Land and Sea is out now. You can check it out online as a sample but please remember that it is a bit of a beast so loading may take some time. The December issue includes the cover article, “That First Patrol” which explores the stress associated with continuing with the mission even after a friend is injured by a mine or an IED. It also covers several New Zealand and Australian soldiers KIA in various locations (including the three killed by a supposedly friendly ANA soldier) and features the story “Dustoff: Flying with the medevac team in Afghanistan.”

Arktis Launches New Site

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

If you’re an Arktis fan, you may have noticed their absence from the web for some time. But, now they’re back with an all new website. UK-based Arktis was started in the mid-80s by a Royal Marine veteran of the Falkland Campaign. Since then, they’ve led the development of specialized military fabrics, clothing and equipment across Europe. They’ve even made some penetration into the American market. Welcome back to the web!
