Intelligent Armour Introduces New Helmets

Monday, April 18th, 2011

UK Intelligent Armour has introduced new variants of their MACH 1, 2 & 3 series helmets that integrates Ops-Core rails and VAS shrouds. MACH stands for Military Advanced Combat Helmet and all three helmets offer NIJ IIIA protection. The MACH 1 is similar in shape to a US ACH while the MACH 2 takes a mid-cut approach similar to the TC-2002. Finally, the MACH 3 features a high cut like the TC 2001 to accommodate large comms/ear defender systems. The addition of the Ops-Core components adds a great deal of versatility to these designs although we are unsure why they didn’t go all the way and also include the excellent Ops-Core chin strap as well as an optional Occi-dial liner.

All three models are available in Tan, Green, and Black from www.body-armour-protection.co.uk

Additionally, Intelligent Armour Limited will be at the Counter Terror Expo in London this week in stand M50 in the National Hall at London Olympia. They will have reps from Blackhawk, 5.11 Tactical and Karrimor SF. Additionally, CEO Alex Bomberg will be giving a 20 Min lecture on Special Forces body armor during one of the workshops.

Yato Technology from UTE

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

Unleashed Tactical Equipment revealed their new Yato thermal management technology at the recent IWA in Germany. Essentially, Yato reflects thermal energy with the added benefit of anti-microbial and anti-static properties. It can be added as a third layer in laminated fabric solutions.

Yato can be built in to a variety of products. For example, the hooped bivy was manufactured with Yato. During testing in a -4 deg C environment, the ambient air temperature within the bivy remained significantly higher than in a bivy without Yato thermal management.

The thermal management properties go both ways. If you are in a hot environment, Yato will reflect heat away from the fabric and help keep the inside cooler. It also offers some RF suppression properties as well. This brochure from UTE tells a little more of the Yato story.

British Army Survival Guide to be Published

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

UK-based Random House imprint Century has purchased world rights, including serial, for a survival-style handbook written by the British Army called “Be the Best at Just About Everything”. Set to be released in October, topics include how to survive an avalanche, cross a crocodile infested swamp, drink from a cactus or iron the perfect shirt. The book will promoted by the Army’s recruiting service with the PR campaign to include serving soldiers in the roles of “ordinary people doing extraordinary things”.

Tim Andrews, Century commissioning editor, said: “The British Army is a unique military institution, one that has constantly evolved and transformed itself and rightly has an international reputation as a prestigious, innovative and heroic organisation. This book reflects those values, and will be one of the most original, entertaining – and useful – gift books of the year, and a dead-cert Christmas present for fathers and sons up and down the country.”

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

About a year ago we introduced you to niche Japanese brand Volk Tactical. Recently, they contacted us with news that they had begun to produce products in the A-TACS pattern.

While Volk Tactical has been primarily serving the enthusiast market, you can see that their kit looks pretty good in A-TACS and helps give an idea of the realm of the possible.

Once again, we would like to let our Japanese readers know that our thoughts are with them in this difficult time and we wish them health, safety and a swift recovery.

Russian Future Soldier System Update

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Yes, the Russians are working on a Future Soldier System program but it appears that their near-term plan is to purchase FELIN systems (Fantassin à Équipement et Liaisons Intégrés or Integrated Equipment and Communications Infantryman) from France, perhaps as a means to kick start their effort and get caught up. Cats and Dogs living together. While the deal still has not been inked, the purchase would only be for test articles of an as yet undetermined number. “The Voice of Russia” has a gallery of FELIN photos, so check them out.

FELIN

However, we have read several reports over the last two weeks that indicate that the Russian military intends to eventually begin a domestic effort to digitize the Soldier. However, according to First Deputy Defense Ministry Vladimir Popovkin the system won’t be ready until 2020.

This isn’t the first modernization program that Russia is outsourcing to foreign concerns. They have also contracted to purchase two Mistral helicopter carriers from France as well as Iveco armored cars from Italy. In both cases, the initial systems will be produced in the originating countries and future examples will be built under license in Russia.

Unleashing Cilahc

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

We know, so you’re asking yourself, “What the hell’s a Cilahc?” Don’t worry, we did the same thing when Unleashed Tactical Equipmentâ„¢ came to us to talk about it recently. You may recall that last summer we wrote an article about UTE’s Fit to Fight initiative which came about due to a longtime mate’s battle related severe burn injuries while wearing non-FR clothing. Over time this project evolved into the Cilahc range.

Below are two of the Cilahc products; the jacket and pants.

You need to read this exclusive interview to get an idea of where they are heading with this range of FR clothing and their overall philosophy.
