DroneShield’s Deployment Results in Arrest at College Football Game

Monday, October 14th, 2019

• DroneShield’s™ system deployed at a Division I football game

• Unauthorised drone flown over the stadium

• Law enforcement identified and secured the drone and arrested the operators thanks to the system

• Most counterdrone deployments are confidential

• This is a rare instance of a publicly-disclosed operation

Sydney Australia, London, UK and Warrenton, Virginia, USA – DroneShield Ltd (ASX: DRO or DRO.AU) (“DroneShield”), a publicly-traded leader in the emerging industry of drone security solutions is pleased to provide the following update on a live deployment of its products.

Stadium Incident

On August 31, 2019, DroneShield’s system was being utilised at the opening game of the football season at a major college team stadium. This deployment was part of the university’s efforts to provide protection against unmanned aerial vehicles.

As has become common at sporting events, an unauthorised drone was flown over the stadium at the end of the game’s third quarter. In the absence of the DroneShield deployment, the drone and its controller would have operated with impunity. However, thanks to DroneShield’s equipment, the law enforcement officers on the scene were able to track the drone in real-time, recover it rapidly and thus secure the site at which over a hundred thousand members of the public were present.  Their efforts ultimately led to the arrest of the drone’s pilots.

DroneShield’s Leadership Position

DroneShield is one of the very few companies in the counterdrone industry that have progressed to products that have been proven in a range of environments, against a range of drones, with multiple governmental and commercial users. Its products can be operated in a layered stand-alone defensive system or integrated into a larger command and control common operating system.

As a result, just in the recent several months alone, DroneShield:

• entered into a memorandum of understanding with a subsidiary of The Saudi Telecom Company;

• commenced a collaboration with Collins Aerospace;

• partnered with Bosch;

• entered into a watershed partnership with BT Group to provide counterdrone solutions to its customers across the United Kingdom;

• won a competitive Australian Department of Defence tender for portable counterdrone devices; and

• experienced substantial revenue growth, quarter after quarter, for three consecutive quarters, from a standing revenue start.

 DroneShield’s products have been deployed for counterdrone security at, among others:

• an ASEAN meeting of heads of state;

• several Boston Marathon events over the years;

• the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics;

• the 2018 XXI Commonwealth Games;

• Hawaii IRONMAN World Championship;

• World Economic Forum in Davos;

• and a number of other high profile events.

 Oleg Vornik, DroneShield’s Chief Executive Officer, commented “The threat of drones to the public is real, clear and present. Most of the time, we are unable to disclose to the public the specifics of the deployments in which our products are utilised, or the very real and effective outcomes that our products achieve in protecting the public, service men and women, law enforcement, and others. We are pleased to be able to share this positive outcome with the public today.”

Thursday, September 5th, 2019

Introducing the Rapid Response Vest (RRV), a high visibility, compact, and easily concealable identifier system for the first responder market. The RRV is a new take on first responder identification for highly dynamic situations and provides departments a color coded and layered response system that can be quickly deployed individually or as part of a unit. The RRV is lightweight vest built from ANSI rated mesh and reflective tape that allows clear 50’ identification of the wearer to the public and other Law Enforcement officials in both day and low light environments. We always will remember the founder of the German counter terrorism unit GSG 9 and the Hero of Mogadishu (Operation Feuerzauber/Fire Magic 17/18 October 1977).

Wegener‘s green GSG 9 beret and his Smith&Wesson M19 revolver used in Mogadishu are on display in the „Haus der deutschen Geschichte“ German National History Museum in Bonn, Germany. This is where I send this KCRF-greetings from.

Thank you for your service, General Wegener!

LAPD and LASD Equip 180 SWAT Officers with Team Wendy Helmets

Elite Los Angeles Tactical Teams Purchase EXFIL® Ballistic SL

Two of the best tactical teams in the U.S. have chosen Cleveland-based Team Wendy® as their ballistic helmet provider.

Team Wendy, which researches and develops high-quality headborne systems from the inside out, announced Thursday that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) purchased the company’s EXFIL® Ballistic SL helmet. LAPD bought 85 black helmets for its SWAT team, and LASD ordered 95 helmets in ranger green for its Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB).

LAPD’s SWAT team rescues dozens of hostages and manages 120-plus high-risk warrants and approximately 100 barricaded suspect cases per year. It responds to barricade or hostage incidents where the suspect is believed to be armed or an extreme threat to public safety. Typical situations include the presence of weapons, suspected gang activity and heavily fortified locations.

LASD is the largest sheriff’s department in the world. The Special Enforcement Bureau, newly equipped with Team Wendy helmets, is a full-time unit of tactical paramedics and rescue specialists, including a canine detail and a special weapons team. It works hand-in-hand with the department’s arson/explosives and hazardous materials details and coordinates security for visiting dignitaries and politicians, including the United States President and Vice President. SEB responds to an estimated 200-300 tactical operations every year, including barricaded suspects, high-risk warrants and hostage situations.

Team Wendy CEO Jose Rizo-Patron said the company exists for the sole purpose of protecting officers like these.

“The men and women of the LAPD and LASD put their lives on the line every day and we take pride in knowing we play a role in their safety,” he said. “This is why we do what we do.”

Joe Nagy, who works with law enforcement agencies around the country on behalf of Team Wendy, said the EXFIL Ballistic SL is built to do exactly what these agencies need.

“We spent a long time engineering this helmet so it would perform at a high caliber,” he said.

The EXFIL Ballistic SL is the fifth helmet in Team Wendy’s EXFIL line. It has a complete system weight of 2.2 pounds, meets a ballistic rating of NIJ Level III-A (according to NIJ STD 0106.01/0108.01) and exceeds ACH blunt impact protection requirements. It features the newer, lighter EXFIL Rail 3.0 for more efficient accessory mounting and the boltless CAM FIT™ Retention System for individualized fit and superior weight distribution.

LAPD and LASD join Orange County Sheriff’s Office and more than 20 other law enforcement agencies in southern California that wear Team Wendy helmet systems.
