Marine South – Ops-Core Updates Skullcrusher

Thursday, April 7th, 2016

I’ve been using the Ops-Core Skullcrusher for many years when I require Night Vision but I don’t need a helmet, for example, while hunting. It’s much more comfortable than the old headsets issued with the PVS-7s and 14s because it is well padded and offers several points of adjustment. Additionally, it incorporates rails at each side and has accommodation for a counterweight.

Recently, they updated the design by no longer molding the shroud plate directly into the Skullcrusher but rather offering a three hole design that will accommodate their mount or three hole mounts from other companies such as Wilcox.

Thursday, April 7th, 2016

I wanted to remind everyone of the Marine issue sling by Blue Force Gear. The Coyote version of the Vickers Combat Application Sling seen here has NSN 1005-01-604-0627 and is part of the BII for the M27 IAR. It is paired here with the M-16 Buttstock Adapter NSN 1005-01-609-5088.

Marine South – Big Ass Solutions

Thursday, April 7th, 2016

ADS Inc had Big Ass Solutions in their booth at Marine South.  This model is the 6-1/2 foot tall Black Jack which is impressively quiet considering it’s, well, a Big Ass Fan.  The variable blade speed Black Jack is mounted on wheels and has a 25′ cord.  This chart gives you an idea of what kind of air movement you are seeing.

The Versa Fresh Pak from Darley Defense is a man portable water treatment system that will produce potable water from any fresh water source. The Pelican case variant weighs 50lbs and the backpack version is 40lbs.

It can be powered via 12v dc, solar powered or via the internal battery for emergency operations up to 4 hours. The pump has 6′ suction lift and will produce approx 1 gpm. The process is a strainer at the pump, sediment pre-filter, ultra filtration membrane and then Granular Activated Carbon post filter. This removes 99.99% of pathogens.

MDM – Massif

Friday, September 25th, 2015

Massif has long been known for their FR clothing solutions and the two items they showed me did not disappoint.

FR Cool Knit T-shirt

Designed to work in conjunction with Massif’s Fire and Ice Layering System, the FR Cool Knit is a moistire wicking fabric with a soft interior and four-way stretch for next-to-skin comfort. Flat seams don’t bunch up. Offered in Black and Coyote Tan.

Nitro Knit T-shirt

Nitro Knit utilizes No Drip No Melt fabric technology from 37.5 for when you dont need full FR protection. The shirts are moisture wicking, have a comfortable hand, flat seams and are great for day-to-day wear. Offered in Black and Tan.

MDM – Rigid Plate Carrier from National Molding

Friday, September 25th, 2015

We first showed you National Molding’s Rigid Plate Carrier during last year’s Modern Day Marine Expo. Since then, they’ve continued to refine their design and begun to garner some interest in the technology.

Below, you can see the components of the RPC which encapsulates the plate. The plate can be removed for inspection or replacement. You can also see that the RPC incorporates National Molding’s Quad Release.

Finally, this photo depicts a translucent RPC panel, used in ballistic testing. They have demonstrated rather promising containment of projectile spall.

MDM – Amphibious Combat Vehicle

Friday, September 25th, 2015

Proposed solution for Phase I of the USMC’s Amphibious Combat Vehicle program dominated the show floor with four companies displaying their systems.  ACV is intended as a replacement for the Amphibious Assault Vehicle and replaces the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle program cancelled in 2011.  Phase I plans to purchase COTS wheeled vehicles which can be brought ashore using LCACs.  Eventually, phase II will result in an actual amphibious armored vehicle that can come ashore under its own steam from the do well of an amphibious assault ship.
