Mystery Ranch Updates Rip Ruck Packs for 2020

Tuesday, February 4th, 2020

During last week’s Outdoor Retailer Snow + Winter Market, Mystery Ranch introduced updated versions of their Rip Ruck Packs. The military pack design cues are obvious. The main feature, the ability to rapidly access the main compartment by “ripping” up on the flap remains, but now the accessory pockets (when present) are easier to access thanks to the Fidlock magnetic buckles which replace the side release on the old model.

Offered in 32, 24 and 15 liter models (top photo to bottom), the packs feature an updated molded foam framesheet.

Another new feature is the large Velcro field on the main flap with the integrated Mystery Ranch logo.

The 15 liter model seen below doesnt have the two external pockets.

Coming later this year from www.mysteryranch.com.

Houdini Mono Air Houdi

Monday, February 3rd, 2020

This ISPO Gold Award winning mid-layer from Swedish brand Houdini Sportswear is made from Polartec Power Air technolgy.

Not only is it super comfy, but it has a lot less impact on the environment than the material’s previous incarnation. Polartec has been making fleece from recycled plastic bottles for decades so that’s nothing new. They’ve just improved their process. Power Air is made from 73% from recycled fibers and is itself, fully recyclable. What’s more, it will release five times fewer microfibers into the environment than traditional fleece. While so many are fixated on plastic straws, that’s what has been actually showing up in fish. Finally, for those interested in the supply chain, it has a bluesign certificate for sustainable and low-emission textile production.

The Houdi will be joined by the hoodless Mono Air Halfzip in the Fall.

ORSWM 20 – Camp Fare Gourmet Meals

Friday, January 31st, 2020

Most of the backpacking food you run across at OR are dehydrated. Camp Fare offers ready to eat entrees and sides, in retort pouches like MREs.

Created by Andrew Sarda, an executive chef, outdoorsman, and world traveler, Camp Fare meals are not only tasty, but healthy as well, using fresh ingredients. Like MREs, these meals are shelf stable for years, depending on how they are stored.

This was my favorite find at OR. I tried everything but the Salmon and it was magnifique. I hope they expand their line. Coming soon to the Air Force with maybe a nice Chianti?
