Anduril Partners with OpenAI to Advance U.S. Artificial Intelligence Leadership and Protect U.S. and Allied Forces

Friday, December 6th, 2024

Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, and OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT and frontier AI models such as GPT 4o and OpenAI o1, are proud to announce a strategic partnership to develop and responsibly deploy advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for national security missions. By bringing together OpenAI’s advanced models with Anduril’s high-performance defense systems and Lattice software platform, the partnership aims to improve the nation’s defense systems that protect U.S. and allied military personnel from attacks by unmanned drones and other aerial devices.

U.S. and allied forces face a rapidly evolving set of aerial threats from both emerging unmanned systems and legacy manned platforms that can wreak havoc, damage infrastructure and take lives. The Anduril and OpenAI strategic partnership will focus on improving the nation’s counter-unmanned aircraft systems (CUAS) and their ability to detect, assess and respond to potentially lethal aerial threats in real-time. As part of the new initiative, Anduril and OpenAI will explore how leading edge AI models can be leveraged to rapidly synthesize time-sensitive data, reduce the burden on human operators, and improve situational awareness. These models, which will be trained on Anduril’s industry-leading library of data on CUAS threats and operations, will help protect U.S. and allied military personnel and ensure mission success.

The accelerating race between the United States and China to lead the world in advancing AI makes this a pivotal moment. If the United States cedes ground, we risk losing the technological edge that has underpinned our national security for decades. The decisions made now will determine whether the United States remains a leader in the 21st century or risks being outpaced by adversaries who don’t share our commitment to freedom and democracy and would use AI to threaten other countries. Bringing together world-class talent in their respective fields, this effort aims to ensure that the U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community have access to the most advanced, effective, and safe AI-driven technologies available in the world.

“Anduril builds defense solutions that meet urgent operational needs for the U.S. and allied militaries,” said Brian Schimpf, co-founder & CEO of Anduril Industries. “Our partnership with OpenAI will allow us to utilize their world-class expertise in artificial intelligence to address urgent Air Defense capability gaps across the world. Together, we are committed to developing responsible solutions that enable military and intelligence operators to make faster, more accurate decisions in high-pressure situations.”

“OpenAI builds AI to benefit as many people as possible, and supports U.S.-led efforts to ensure the technology upholds democratic values,” said Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO. “Our partnership with Anduril will help ensure OpenAI technology protects U.S. military personnel, and will help the national security community understand and responsibly use this technology to keep our citizens safe and free.”

Anduril and OpenAI’s shared commitment to AI safety and ethics is a cornerstone of this new strategic partnership. Subject to robust oversight, this collaboration will be guided by technically-informed protocols emphasizing trust and accountability in the development and employment of advanced AI for national security missions.

PenCott-GreenZone Camouflage Fabric Available Once Again!

Friday, December 6th, 2024

50/50 poly-cotton ripstop stretch tactical fabric produced in partnership with 707 Tactical Gear.

Hyde Definition Ltd., the parent company of the PenCott® camouflage brand, today announces the long-awaited return of GreenZone™ camouflage garment fabric for wholesale purchasing.

Production of PenCott camouflage fabrics unfortunately ended a few years ago because of circumstances in the supply chain that were beyond the company’s control. Now, thanks to our long-time partners at 707 Tactical Gear, PenCott camouflage pattern fabrics are available again.

First up is a new breathable 50/50 polyester-cotton mix fabric with mechanical stretch and a ripstop weave. Of a more comfortable lighter weight (195 grams per square meter) than military standard 50/50 NyCo (205 grams per square meter) and treated with Bionic Finish® C6 for water and oil resistance and Silver+® anti-bacterial treatment, this fabric is ideal to produce modern tactical and outdoor garments.

Note: to provide an economical price point, and to avoid possible import / export restrictions, this fabric does not incorporate US/NATO nIR performance standards.

GreenZone has won many loyal users all over the world because of its exceptional concealment performance–as well as for not being an official military pattern. This led to PenCott being adopted by numerous law enforcement units and security agencies, as well as being used by special operations units that want to conceal their presence and identity effectively. We have received numerous testimonials from these professional end users of how impressed they have been with the effectiveness of the patterns, and the success of their missions as a result–which is ultimately why we do what we do.

This current production run of poly-cotton GreenZone fabric is the first step in bringing PenCott fabrics back onto the market. A production run of 500D nylon GreenZone is in planning, as well as additional fabric types and colorways.

Also visit SK7USA.com to also see their fully restocked range of finished products in mil-spec 50/50 NyCo and 500D nylonPenCott GreenZone and BadLands patterns.

PenCott is named in honor of two WWII British camouflage pioneers – Sir Roland Penrose and Dr. Hugh Cott – and is the result of several years of individual scientific development by Dominic Hyde. The PenCott pattern geometry combines false edges for superior shape disruption (high-difference color boundaries) as well as the illusion of 3D depth through texture matching techniques (hypo-acuitive dithering). The pattern also includes micro, midi, and macro sized fractals for both blending and disrupting properties.

707 Tactical Gear™ is a company dedicated to the design and manufacture of innovative and advanced tactical and military apparel and footwear. It is one of the few American companies in its niche that can design specific products according to clients’ requests and manufacture them in their wholly ownedfactories. The company offers its products commercially under the SK7® brand with shipping worldwide.

Japan Maritime Defense Force Selects SeaGuardians From GA-ASI

Thursday, December 5th, 2024

SAN DIEGO – 03 December 2024 – The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) has selected the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) SeaGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems for its Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program. This follows JMSDF use of SeaGuardian since May 2023 as part of its Medium-Altitude, Long Endurance (MALE) RPA System Trial Operations Project.
SeaGuardian has been used by JMSDF to conduct various tests including whether unmanned aircraft can supplant some of the missions currently accomplished with manned aircraft. SeaGuardian is a MALE RPA system that can fly for 24 hours or more, depending on the configuration.
GA-ASI has strengthened its Maritime Wide Area Surveillance (MWAS) for Japan with Optix+, which gathers information from the SeaGuardian sensors, as well as other data sources, displaying the full picture of surveillance information for its operator. This functionality makes it easy to task and direct its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) information in real time. GA-ASI’s Optix+ software suite rapidly correlates and exploits collected data into an easily shared common operational picture. Having multi-source correlated data enables automatic detection of anomalous behaviors over waters.
SeaGuardian features two multi-mode maritime surface-search radars with an Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) imaging mode, an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver, and a High-Definition – Full-Motion Video sensor equipped with optical and infrared cameras as well as electronic intelligence receivers. This sensor suite enables real-time detection and identification of surface vessels over thousands of square nautical miles and provides automatic tracking of maritime targets and correlation of AIS transmitters with radar and electronic intelligence tracks.

Elbit Systems UK Delivers Full Suite of Fires Training to the British Armed Forces

Thursday, December 5th, 2024

I/ITSEC, Florida – 4th December 2024: Elbit Systems UK (ESUK), a defence technology business, has completed the System Acceptance Trials (SAT) for the mobile component of the Joint Fires Synthetic Trainer (Mobile) (JFST(M)). JFST delivers high-fidelity immersive training for troops who direct fires from artillery, combat aircraft, helicopters, or Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles – known as Joint Fires Operators. With the completion of these final trials, ESUK has delivered its sixth and final JFST training platform type to Front-Line Commands.

This milestone means that ESUK has delivered all six capabilities of the JFST platform to the British Armed Forces. ESUK previously delivered five of the six different variants of JSFT systems to bases across the UK including at the Royal School of Artillery, Larkhill, and the Air Ground Operations School at RAF Leeming. The systems fielded include a 285-degree dome for JTAC training, versions to provide mounted and dismounted training as well as the capabilities to provide the training needed for personnel to conduct battle group level exercises. To date, JFST has delivered over 12,000 hours of training to British Armed Forces and NATO allies.

The inaugural deployment of JFST(M) training has been delivered to 3 Commando Brigade Fires Personnel in Scotland. With further training exercises planned, the family of JFST training solutions offers users a fully immersive experience, allowing users to sense, decide and control joint effects without the need for expensive military assets – bearing cost efficiencies for all branches of the Armed Forces and boosting training capacity.

The JFST training system is part of ESUK’s solutions-based approach to working with the British Armed Forces. With a wide selection of training on offer, the business’ innovative approach provides full training solutions without the need to combine live air, land, and sea assets – saving Armed Forces time and money.

The 285-degree dome system has also passed US and NATO accreditation meaning that it can be used by allied nations to provide JTAC and joint fires training to deliver better prepared Armed Forces Personnel.

Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK said:

“JFST is a highly capable and technologically advanced training system which has demonstrated the benefits synthetic training can provide to the British Armed Forces. We will continue to support this training for all branches of the Armed Forces”.
