Military Multi-Tool: Rheinmetall Presents HX 8×8 High-Mobility Multipurpose Excavator System with CSM Industry of Slovakia

Sunday, February 27th, 2022

In cooperation with the Slovak company CSM Industry, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) has unveiled a new high-mobility multipurpose excavator vehicle based on the HX 8×8. The new variant derives from RMMV’s tried-and-tested family of logistic vehicles, which are in service worldwide. It carries an UDS 214 excavator build-on, a proven system made by the crane and excavator maker CSM based in Tisovec, Slovakia. The HX 8×8 Excavator is specially designed for combat engineer operations and disaster relief missions.

Able to pivot 360 degrees, the build-on features an extendable telescopic arm that attains a length of up 14.60 metres. It can use various tools: besides the excavator shovel, a hook or hydraulic drum cutter are possible. This universally deployable device can lift loads of up to 7.5 tons and can thus serve as an auxiliary crane. If desired, the excavator operator’s cab can be protected in accordance with common STANAG levels and fitted with a ventilation system.

Like RMMV’s entire HX family, the HX 8×8 is a military off-the-shelf vehicle designed to withstand the most gruelling military conditions, assuring excellent mobility even in the toughest terrain. When ready to operate, the basic version of the vehicle weighs 28 tons.

Its MAN D2676 diesel engine generates an output of 387 kW or 540 hp, giving the HX 8×8 a top speed of 90 km/h. The vehicle can handle inclines of 60 percent and wade through water up to 1.5 metres deep. If desired, the HX 8×8 can be equipped with Rheinmetall’s protected Integrated Armoured Cabin (IAC) or prepared for its optional use. The vehicle can also be fitted with a remotely operated weapon station for self-defence.

Belonging to the HX family – of which more than 16,000 vehicles are now in service worldwide – offers advantages with respect to maintenance, repairs and training. Numerous NATO nations already own HX family trucks, resulting in synergy effects particularly during multinational operations.

The HX 8×8 Excavator is another example of Rheinmetall cooperation with European and other international partners. Nor is this limited to technical teamwork. By cooperating with Rheinmetall, CSM stands to benefit from access to new export markets.

Moreover, the Düsseldorf-based technology enterprise offers Slovakia additional options for cooperating with local industry. One possibility would be the production of infantry fighting vehicles in the NATO country. This relates to an offer to Slovakia by Hungary to produce the state-of-the-art Lynx KF41 family of tracked armoured vehicles developed by Rheinmetall. The Lynx family is a compelling choice not only on account of its performance parameters. It also sets a new standard when it comes to defence cooperation between NATO member states and other partner nations. Hungary opted to procure the Lynx in 2021, with a large share of the vehicles to be manufactured in Hungary in cooperation with Rheinmetall. If neighbouring Slovakia, also a NATO member, choses the Lynx, a large share of its new fleet of vehicles would also be produced locally, meaning that it would benefit from far-reaching cooperation in the defence technology domain, resulting in greater value added as well as safeguarding and expanding the country’s defence technology capabilities.

XTEND Brings the Metaverse to the Modern Battlefield, as it Launches its Next Generation XTENDER Tactical sUAS system, with Resilient Indoor-Outdoor Navigation Capability and Integrated, Proprietary Drone-Teaming Technology

Friday, February 25th, 2022

For the first time, the system’s unique capabilities enable combat soldiers to perform entire missions remotely, with just a few hours of training, actively affecting the operational scenario, with zero contact with hostile forces.

17 Feb. 2022, Washington. XTEND – a company specializing in human-guided autonomous drone operating systems for military forces and law enforcement agencies – is launching the second generation of its indoor tactical sUAS system – the XTENDER.

The revolutionary micro-tactical ISR platform, with built-in resilient indoor-outdoor navigation and AI capabilities, enables remote completion of missions. Powered by “Skylord”, XTEND’s unique human-centric operating system, the XTENDER features complete localization and situational awareness, using the most advanced virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies, coupled with advanced AI and machine learning flight algorithms, bringing the metaverse to the modern battlefield.

The new XTENDER boasts powerful edge computing capabilities, providing onboard sensor fusion and localization that enable the drone to easily fly in any environment. The new onboard mission computer also enables the drone to run AI-driven applications, providing the operator with real-life actionable intelligence, such as target classification, verification, and tracking.

Using patented Drone-Teaming and Mark & Fly technologies, both integrated into the operating system, the new generation of the XTENDER enables multiple drones to enter a remote target site carrying various payloads, perform the required tasks with extreme precision, and seamlessly exit, regardless of any indoor-outdoor transition limitations or GNSS-denied locations.

With the second-generation XTENDER, any operator – even with zero flight experience – can perform accurate recon and data collection tasks – such as close-quarters combat (CQB) clearance, IED and tripwire identification, and enemy detection – in complex urban environments, without any physical contact with hostile forces.

Made in the U.S., the small, wearable lightweight XTENDER has a natural hand-gesture controller and is affordable, versatile, and easy to use, with minimal training and maintenance.

“Having deployed UAS in combat for 20 years, we are excited about XTENDER because, for the first time, forces can now carry out indoor missions without approaching the combat arena, and without putting themselves at risk,” says Steve Ball, Sales Operations Manager of XTEND. “This platform applies the wealth of knowledge held by our team, which is 100% comprised of army and Special Operations Forces veterans. It is this authentic insider view of forces’ experience in the battlefield that makes our solutions so successful.”

The XTENDER has already been operationally deployed by the US DoD, the Israeli MOD, and in other countries. XTEND is now expanding its activity in the United Kingdom as well, another major market for its innovative, combat-proven systems.

Spiritus Systems Launches the Micro Fight MKV Chassis and CCS Sustainment Pouch

Friday, February 25th, 2022

Available for purchase today at 1200 EST on spiritussystems.com

Spiritus Systems has launched the Micro Fight MkV, a compact chest rig chassis that serves as the central hub in an ever-growing system of components that can be configured into various plate carrier and chest rig solutions for today’s warfighter.

The Micro Fight series of chassis was originally developed as an answer to the performance limitations of traditional plate carriers and chest rigs when fighting in and around vehicles. The Micro Fight system was built to be an extremely low-bulk solution for environments where space and weight command a premium. Over the years, Spiritus Systems has continued to evolve this core product and build a line of accessories that allow the micro fight to scale from a minimalistic magazine carrier to a full-fledged plate carrier system or various sustainment and comms-focused chest rigs.

Today, the MkV is added to this diverse roster of modular components that let the end user build a near limitless number of kit configurations to support a wide range of weapons platforms and use cases.

Design & Improvements

The MkV represents a generational leap for the Micro Fight line. Previously all Micro Fight iterations were composed of two open-top cells that could accept a variety of magazine inserts and Velcro flap closures. The latest version is now a single cell placard-style chassis that is built with all-new materials and manufacturing processes. The design features MOLLE on the front and sides to accommodate additional magazine pouches and tourniquets, and a row of anchor points along the top opening, for magazine retention bungee straps that will accommodate any caliber.

The CCS Pouch

Spiritus Systems found that the vast majority of Legacy Micro Fight customers were using the front cell as an ad-hoc GP pouch. In response to this, the MkV now can be combined with the all-new CCS Sustainment Pouch (releasing today in-tandem with the Mk V Chassis). The CCS pouch is a full-featured GP Pouch that vastly improves upon the legacy front cell’s functionality, and storage capacity. For those that do not need a GP Pouch solution, the MkV’s MOLLE front will accept any 3rd party magazine holders or other pouches.

Materials Selection & Manufacturing

The materials in the MkV were hand-selected and extensively tested for durability. Squadron fabric (an ultra-tough 1000d/500d Cordura laminate) is a semi-rigid textile that is used for the MkV’s entire chassis frame and was vetted for long-term integrity when laser cut. Unlike other products that will delaminate overtime, the MkV’s Squadron chassis will not degrade.

Spiritus Systems also worked extensively to develop new manufacturing processes that would allow the company to invest more per-product in premium materials. By keeping build costs low through efficiency gains, Spiritus Systems can offer the best value in tactical nylon equipment on the market today.

Backwards Compatibility

The MkV and the CCS pouch are backward compatible with the company’s full product line. That means customers with LV/119 Plate Carriers, Thing 1 and Thing 2 Chest Rigs, and any other build, can drop in a Micro Fight MkV where the Mk 4 used to be, and instantly enhance the functionally and modularity of the system with no extra purchases required. The MkV is also compatible with all caliber magazine inserts currently offered on the website.

Availability & Pricing

Spiritus Systems will be launching these products today at 1200 EST on spiritussystems.com

SK Customs Announces The Lost States of America Engravers Series with The Lost State of Jacinto – Sam Houston Introduction

Thursday, February 24th, 2022

SK Customs® restores history by launching “The Lost States of America Engravers Series” production line with “The Lost State of Jacinto – Sam Houston” Colt 1911 pistols engraved in 24KT gold.

An important battle of the Texas Revolution, the Battle of San Jacinto took place in 1836 in present-day Harris County, Texas. General Sam Houston led the Texian Army against General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna’s Mexican Army in a critical victory. The battle lasted only eighteen minutes and changed the world.

In the end, the United States would gain not only Texas, but also New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California, Utah and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. As a result of the Battle of San Jacinto, nearly a third of what is now the United States of America changed ownership. It is one of the most decisive and consequential battles in the history of the United States and indeed the Western world.

“We commemorate General Sam Houston and the Texian Army for avenging the Alamo and Goliad by launching this very exclusive limited edition of only 200 full size government model Colt 1911 pistols chambered in .45ACP,” said Simon Khiabani, owner and founder of SK Customs. “Each pistol includes a special engraved edition number and will be accompanied with a beautiful antique silver commemorative challenge coin.”

Details on each side of the gun include a beautiful custom scroll pattern which flows to the top of the slide. On the left side of the gun, SK Customs has engraved the iconic quote by General Sam Houston, “Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.”

On the right side is the iconic quote used when the Texian Army charged into battle shouting, “Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad!”

The top of the slide provides a portrait of General Sam Houston in front of the Monument of San Jacinto, while the rear of the slide is engraved with “The State of Texas” seal and “The Lost State of Jacinto.”

“The grips are made of Genuine Mesquite Burl native to Texas and to enrich the history of this production, both the grips and challenge coins were manufactured and sourced directly from our partners in the Lone Star State making this production even more special,” said Khiabani.

SCHUBERTH Launches New Ballistic Head Protection System B.Ko.S. at EnforceTac 2022

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022

A modern combat helmet with a high level of user comfort and ballistic protection, that provides scalable levels of performance and modularity – this is the approach of the new B.Ko.S. concept (Ballistisches Kopfschutz System/ ballistic head protection system). An innovative rail design with open system architecture allows the integration of a multitude of devices, some even not yet fielded to enable a future-proof upgrading and capability expansion potential of the helmet. The design of the inner lining and retention system also requires a new approach. Including a wide range of sizes, coverage of a variety of head shapes and the use of a combined hearing protection/ communication solution. This is achieved without compromising soldier health and safety requirements while communication capabilities are guaranteed for a long time without interference.

Milad Youkhanna, Head of the Military and Law Enforcement Business Unit, describes the positioning of the B.Ko.S. concept as follows: “For decades, SCHUBERTH has been the reliable partner of the German Armed Forces for head protection solutions. The Swiss Armed Forces also rely on a ballistic helmet from our company to this day. In addition to a high-performance product, an efficient lifecycle management with extensive maintenance capacities are part of the sustainable offer of our company. The B.Ko.S. concept consistently pursues this philosophy and sets standards in terms of modularity, comfort and integration capability – without compromising protection.”

The B.Ko.S rail system with integrated SCHUBERTH universal clips is unique in the industry. It can be easily adapted to a large number of slots provided in all three rails and in the night vision shroud. Allowing the cable routing to be individually adapted in order to reliably supply power to systems to be procured in the future. It also significantly increases the options for helmet bungees or artificial camouflage elements. In the future, connections required by the user can thus be realized quickly and cost-effectively via the universal clip as part of the open system architecture. In addition to the side rails, the B.Ko.S concept has an additional rear rail. This can be utilized to accommodate battery packs to increase powersupply security, while at the same time ensuring an optimal balance of the helmet on the head.

The B.Ko.S. concept focuses on comfort as a significant contribution to broad user acceptance and satisfaction and the directly resulting protection. Finally, an above-average share of common parts across all sizes as well as optimized maintainability ensures low life cycle costs and reduced logistical effort.

According to CEO Dr. Christoph Klotzbach, helmets are always being reinvented at SCHUBERTH: “Innovation and technology as well as user feedback define our focus. This is appreciated just as much by the reigning Formula 1 world champion as by our motorbike customers. But know-how from the police, firefighting and work safety sectors also goes directly into each new helmet generation via valuable synergy effects. We have followed this holistic approach with the B.Ko.S. concept. As a result, we are very proud to present another high-tech product in the year of our centenary, which sets diverse impulses and significantly sets us apart from the market.

At the Enforcetac 2022 trade fair in Nuremberg (Stand 12 279), SCHUBERTH will be presenting the B.Ko.S. ballistic head protection system concept to the trade public for the first time from 1.3.2022 to 2.3.2022.
