Sweden Offers BAE Systems’ Combat-Proven CV90 to Slovakia

Thursday, February 3rd, 2022

ÖRNSKÖLDSVIK, Sweden — Feb. 1, 2022 — BAE Systems has confirmed its bid submission, together with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), for the advanced, combat- proven CV90 in response to the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic’s acquisition of 152 new Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) in multiple variants. The offer will ensure the production and delivery of the CV90 in collaboration with local Slovak industry, on time and to budget.

The joint filing by FMV and BAE Systems confirms the Swedish states’ support for Slovakia, further strengthening governmental relations as the country looks to modernize its ground forces by 2030. The bid includes support with training, tactics, and future development and welcomes Slovakia as a member of the CV90 User Club.

BAE Systems Hägglunds, which manufactures the CV90 in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, has delivered multiple CV90 export programs to European customers. With a history of highly successful industrial cooperation that goes beyond the mechanical assembly of the vehicle, the team will work with several Slovak companies to deliver the CV90s to the Army.

“BAE Systems’ approach is built on strategic collaboration with local suppliers, enabling them to play a high-value role in the development, production, training, and support of the CV90 MkIV and all its variants,” said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds. “We are committed to exceeding the mandated 40 per cent requirement for direct content as we work closely with Slovak industry to deliver the most capable, combat-proven IFV on the market today.”

In June 2021, the CV90 participated in dynamic and static demonstrations to Slovak VIPs, including defense minister Jaroslav Na?, and representatives from the Army at the Military Technical and Testing Institute of Záhorie, Republic of Slovakia. Three variants of the CV90 family – the CV90 MkIV, an Armoured Personnel Carrier, and the Medium Tank CV90120 – showcased the diverse capabilities of the CV90 fleet.

Available in 15 variants, the CV90 is designed to provide optimum mobility, with the highest level of protection in any terrain or tactical environment. The latest version, the CV90 MkIV, combines improved battlefield speeds and handling with an upgraded Electronic Architecture to support future growth capabilities as the complex battlefield evolves.

The CV90 is in operation with Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. There are nearly 1,300 CV90s of numerous variants in service. The vehicle has an established track record and is designed to accommodate future growth to meet evolving missions.

Maske 81mm – Rheinmetall’s Smoke/Obscurant Grenade

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022

Maske 81mm – Rheinmetall unveils new version of its tried-and-tested, fast-acting smoke/obscurant grenade
Rheinmetall has developed a new version of its tried-and-tested, highly effective Maske smoke/obscurant grenade.

Like other smoke/obscurant grenades of the Maske family, the Maske 81mm is based on a bimodular, bi-spectral ammunition concept. It consists of a fast-acting decoy module that generates intense blooming thanks to proven decoy technologies. It is paired with a long-lasting concealment module whose visible and infrared smoke/obscurant interrupts the enemy’s line of sight in both the visual and infrared spectrum. As a result, the Maske smoke/obscurant grenade provides armoured vehicles with effective protection from visual and infrared optical aiming devices as well as target sensor heads, laser target illuminators and laser rangefinders.

The Maske 81mm can be launched from any 81mm cal. smoke grenade dispenser, including legacy launchers. This makes the Maske 81mm particularly interesting for customers who use heavy fighting vehicles equipped with smoke grenade launchers of former Warsaw Pact make.

Furthermore, Maske fast-acting smoke/obscurant grenades also come in a wide variety of other calibres.

Black Collar Arms APS

Tuesday, February 1st, 2022

Austin, TX — Not a shoulder stock, not a pistol brace, the brand new Black Collar Arms APS — Adjustable Pistol Support — is a height adjustable rest designed to support a precision pistol on a bench, the ground, or another surface. It’s a brand new category of rear accessory for firearms and is ideally suited to large, accurate pistols.

While a pistol brace is designed to brace against the shooter’s body — typically on the forearm — for extended-arm firing of the pistol, the Black Collar Arms APS isn’t designed to contact the shooter’s body. Used as a second or third point of contact on a solid surface, the APS provides a stable, height-adjustable rear rest with vertical point of aim adjustment accomplished by simply rotating the monopod.

The Black Collar Arms Adjustable Pistol Support will be available first in a clamp-on design for pistol buffer tubes and anything that accepts a Gear Head Works Tailhook MOD 1. On a buffer tube it can be adjusted forward and rearward to align with a given shooting bench, rock, side-by-side dashboard, hunting blind, or other support surface.

Seen here in rough prototype form, the production APS will have the ability to accept popular bipod feet in the bottom. With bipod feet available in styles ranging from rubber bumpers to machined aluminum spikes, there’s one to accommodate every type of support surface and shooting style.

Shipping is slated to begin in April, 2022. Pricing is still subject to change, but the MSRP target is $149.95.
