Rheinmetall and Thales Are Teaming in Germany within the Field of Unguided and Guided Rockets

Thursday, January 16th, 2020

•        This agreement aims to support together the future developments, qualification and production of the 70mm (2.75”) rocket systems for the German market

•        Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH will lead the team towards the German customers

•        Together, the two international groups will propose complementary capabilities for the Tiger MK3 program

Rheinmetall and Thales have signed an agreement to support together the future developments, qualification and production of the 70mm (2.75”) guided and unguided rockets solutions for helicopters as well as potentially other new platforms in Germany.

The Thales 70mm (2.75”) rocket systems are currently operated on UHT Tiger and under certification on Airbus Helicopters H145M. As part of the agreement, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH will lead the team towards the German customers and use its wide experience as main supplier to the Bundeswehr to ensure the future requirements are met.

The agreement deepens the existing relationship between Thales and Rheinmetall in this field as other members of Rheinmetall Group are working in collaborative integration programs with Thales like on Rheinmetall Canada’s Mission Master UGV.

Together, Rheinmetall and Thales propose important complementary capabilities, especially in the frame of the Tiger MK3 program (guided rocket in “Lock-On-Before-Launch” mode, additional communication between the rocket system and the platform, identification, remote control…)

Torsten Böhm, Senior Vice President ‘Business Development and Sales’, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition:

“The multi-decade experience and quality of the Thales 70mm rockets fit perfectly to Rheinmetall’s activities to provide the users in Germany with the best products. The Thales portfolio in this domain is complementary to the current Rheinmetall technical portfolio. This gives the opportunity to combine forces, but more important gives the user direct access to products, meeting the highest requirements on effectiveness, accuracy and safety. And that is our mission.”

Stéphane Bianchi, director of the Airborne Armament business segment, Thales:

“This strengthening of the collaboration in Germany between Thales and Rheinmetall is good news for both groups. We will provide our expertise with the 70mm (2.75”) rocket systems, which equip already many platforms in the world, and Rheinmetall the knowledge of the German customer. This is a true win-win, at a time when Airbus Helicopters is developing its Tiger MK3 version.”

USSOCOM Completes Safety Certification and Purchase of SIG SAUER MG 338 Machine Guns, Ammunition, and Next Generation Suppressors

Wednesday, January 15th, 2020

Big news from SIG. For the first time in over a century, the US military has safety certified bot a new weapon as well as ammunition at the same time.

They also certified a suppressor at the same time, a first.

These weapons are undergoing a combat evaluation by MARSOC on behalf of USSOCOM and the US Marine Corps.

I recently had an opportunity to fire the SIG SAUER MG 338 machine gun. It is extremely controllable and weighs less than an M240.

Here is their press release.

NEWINGTON, N.H., (January 13, 2020) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the United States Special Operation Command (USSOCOM), working closely with SIG SAUER, has completed a safety certification of the new SIG SAUER MG 338 Machine Gun, SIG SAUER 338 Norma Mag Ammunition, and Next Generation Suppressors.  Following this historic official safety certification, SIG SAUER has completed deliveries of multiple systems, comprised of the MG 338 Machine Guns, 338 Norma Mag Ammunition, and Next Generation Suppressors – all researched, designed, engineered, and manufactured by SIG SAUER in the U.S.A.

“The safety certification of the complete SIG SAUER MG 338 system, and delivery of the system to USSOCOM is historically very significant.  For the first time in decades the U.S. Military certified a new machine gun, ammunition, and suppressor at the same time, bringing new innovation, portability, and increased lethality to our ground forces, with all components coming from one company,” began Ron Cohen, President and CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “This certification was achieved following the outstanding performance of the complete MG 338 system through the rigors of the extensive function, durability, and safety tests set forth by USSOCOM.”

The SIG MG 338 bridges the gap between the current machine guns currently in use with the U.S. Military.  In comparison to the current M240 (7.62x51cal) machine gun, which has been in service with the U.S. Military for 60 years, the SIG MG 338, is noticeably lighter, weighing only 20 pounds, and provides significantly more range and lethality.  In comparison to the M2 (.50cal), which has been in service with the U.S. Military for 110 years, the MG 338 is approximately one-quarter the weight, and in a historic first, offers a man-portable solution with similar effective-range.  Making this system even more desirable are the new SIG SAUER Next Generation Suppressors which drastically reduces the impact of harmful toxic fumes and signature, making the operator less vulnerable.

The SIG SAUER MG 338 machine gun is a belt-fed, lightweight medium machine gun weighing under 20lbs., chambered in 338 Norma Mag.  The MG 338 features a short-stroke gas piston system and a proprietary recoil mitigation system, with a free-floating, quick-change barrel, ambidextrous controls, switchable feed tray, charging handle that can be alternated to either side depending on operator preference, and as a modern, multi-caliber, modular system the new SIG MG 338 is easily convertible to 7.62x51cal.

“We are incredibly proud of this historical accomplishment and honored to have received this safety certification by USSOCOM for the performance of the complete MG 338 system,” concluded Cohen.

Badger Ordnance Announces New Products for Their C1 Line

Wednesday, January 15th, 2020

North Kansas City, Missouri – Badger Ordnance is proud to announce new additions to their line of Condition One Modular Mounts. For 2020 Badger Ordnance has introduced to their C1 line, products that cater more to the long-range precision shooter. The C1 ARC (Accessory Ring Cap) is a modular replacement ring cap for any Condition One Modular Mount. It allows the user to mount a myriad of accessories fore or aft on their C1 Mounts, to include different variants of Laser Range Finder rails (12 slot tall or 8 slot short) or 12 o’clock mounted red dots. The C1 ARC allows the accessories to be connected or disconnected without removal of the ARC itself thus maintaining zero of your primary optic.

Also new from Badger Ordnance for their 2020 C1 lineup is the C1 ACI (Angle Cosine Indicator) and C1 ACD (Anti Cant Device). The C1 ACI allows for the attachment of the Sniper Tools Design ACI directly to the C1 line of mounts. The C1 ACI can be configured in 2 different ride heights on the mount, high or low. The C1 ACD is a leveling instrument designed for the C1 line of mounts to ensure that a weapon system is level before a shot is taken. The level itself can be user calibrated to ensure that it is properly aligned to the user’s scope/weapon system. The C1 ACD housing also allows the end user to attach a commonly procured tritium vial to the level for use during low/no light operation.

Both the C1 ACI and ACD can be mounted left/right, fore/aft on any C1 Modular Mount port in a standalone fashion via the provided standalone puck or in conjuction with and opposing the C1 Offset Micro Sight J-Arms.

All products of the C1 line and others will be on display next week at SHOT Show 2020 in the Badger Ordnance booth #20005
