On August 13, 2019, The U.S. Patent Office granted US Patent No. 10,378,838 to the Hush Puppy Project for its Slide Lock Device (“SLD”). Hush Puppy Project is a Louisiana-based manufacturer of suppressors, pistols and ammunition “dedicated to the art and science of small arms signature reduction.” US Patent No. 10,378,838 is directed to a mechanism that converts a semiautomatic pistol’s self-loading system to a single-shot locked breech mechanism, thus eliminating the mechanical sound of the slide cycling, the emission of noise from the ejection port (“port pop”) and collateral sound from brass hitting the ground while allowing the suppressor to achieve maximum efficiency. With the SLD disengaged, the pistol may still be fired in normal semiautomatic mode.

“Our new SLD patent covers the mechanism that converts a Glock pistol to function in locked breech mode, thus making for the quietest shot possible, especially when combined with the Hush Puppy Model 2 wipe silencer and Super Vel Mk 144 subsonic ammunition.” said Brad Gilpin, Hush Puppy Project president.

The Hush Puppy Project currently manufactures two brands of pistols with SLDs, Glock 19 Gen 5 and S&W M&P 2.0 as well as two suppressors, the Model 1 and Model 2. Super Vel Ammunition, a sister company of the Hush Puppy Project, manufactures subsonic 9mm ammunition as part of the Project’s “systems approach” to sound reduction.

Target Scoring

The Defense Target’s scoring areas are designed to be as close to the average human’s anatomy as possible. The “5” head box measures the average width and height of a human head while the “5” heart box is purposefully offset slightly right (target’s left) and sized to the average human heart. Both “5” areas are designed to mimic a kill zone. The “4” zones match the average lung size and pelvic girdle area and are designed to mimic a shot in which death is probable but not guaranteed. The “3” represents the outline of the average human body and represents an area where death is possible but not likely.

Medical Assault Combat Belt System awarded NSNs

Wednesday, August 14th, 2019

Medical Belt with Choices of Belt Pads, Pouches and Harness – designed to replace the 18D’s Medical Assault Chest Harness.

NSN: 8465-01-675-2118
NSN: 8465-01-675-2107

Previously with too much medical gear in an inaccessible pack, half of the medic’s load needs to be moved to an easy to access belt pouch system. The S.O.TECH Medical Belt System provides the medic with a choice of pouches mounted to a load bearing belt which can be suspended optionally from a shoulder harness (included). The load bearing belt is comprised of three elements, a strength rated safety belt, a contoured padded MOLLE over belt, and a slim padded MOLLE over belt (note that there is one safety (riggers cobra belt) and two sleeves per kit). This provides options for long duration use and for short term low profile use. The belts have optional anchor points for the harnesses’ quick disconnect buckles (some medics will want a harness, others will prefer it without a shoulder harness). The belts are designed so the medic can spin the belt around the waist placing the needed pouches to the front. * Belts are sized small/medium or large/X-large.

Liberty Dynamic, ReconRobotics to Integrate Flash-Bang with Throwable Robot

Wednesday, August 14th, 2019

Digital, reusable Enhanced Diversionary Device will give added “kick” to Throwbot 2® robot

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—August 13, 2019—Liberty Dynamic announced today that it will begin collaborating with ReconRobotics, Inc., on adapting the robotic company’s tiny, tactical Throwbot 2® robot so that it includes an Enhanced Diversionary Device.

By having the robot blended with a flash-bang, military and law enforcement users (hostage rescue, special reaction and SWAT teams) save precious seconds before detonation as well as benefit from real-time intelligence.

“It’s all about giving operators tactical advantage,” said John Chapman, CEO of Liberty Dynamic.

First unveiled this past January, the Enhanced Diversionary Device is a reusable, microprocessor-controlled flash-bang designed to be safer and more economical than the standard stun grenades currently used by police officers and military personnel.

“Legacy flash-bangs are supposed to be safe,” Chapman said, “but their chemical detonators can sometimes ‘cook off’ too early. They can also cause fires and secondary fragmentation because they burn very hot and explode on the ground.”

By contrast, the Enhanced Diversionary Device has a digital fuse for precise, programmable detonation, and it fires its special binary load into free space. As a result, there is a loud and blinding airburst, but the device doesn’t kick up secondary debris from the floor.

“This has made the Enhanced Diversionary Device very attractive for law enforcement and special operators as well as other platform-makers,” Chapman said.

One such platform company is ReconRobotics.

ReconRobotics is the developer of the Throwbot 2®, a super-lightweight (1.3lbs) yet rugged (30-foot drop height) robot that can be tossed over walls and into rooms—allowing operators to surreptitiously surveil an area without exposing themselves to hostile fire.

Founded in 2005, the robot company has seen its products used by various local and federal law enforcement agencies as well as by the U.S. and allied military forces.

“That’s why we are so excited by the idea of working with Liberty Dynamic,” said Mack Traynor, CEO for ReconRobotics. “The partnership demonstrates our commitment to continue to develop products that protect personnel from hidden threats, enhance mission planning and execution and minimize collateral damage for our users.”

Two In One – Rheinmetall’s New 60mm Mortar for Infantry and Special Forces

Tuesday, August 13th, 2019

Rheinmetall has developed a new 60mm mortar for infantry and special forces. The RSG60 features innovative design and engineering characteristics which make this indirect fire system very light and easy to handle.  A few quick manual adjustments turn the 15.8 kg standard infantry version into a commando mortar weighing just 6.8 kg, with no need for tools. This makes the RSG60 a two-in-one solution.

Depending on the ammunition and charges, the standard version can attain ranges of up 3,200 metres. Equipped with a thirty centimetre-longer barrel, the range increases by around 500 metres. The commando variant of the RSG60 has a range of around 2,000 metres.

About 70 centimetres long, the barrel is made of steel with a carbon fibre over-wrap. This assures the necessary stability at the same time as lower weight, resulting in a barrel that weighs around 30 percent less than a conventional steel mortar. The base plate is made of carbon fibre composite material. The novel design of this indirect fire weapon not only saves space, it can be set up and ready to fire in a matter of seconds. Furthermore, by loosening the retaining bolts, it is possible to separate the RSG60 from the base plate in around thirty seconds, transforming it into lighter-weight commando mortar.

Development of the new mortar began in October 2017 at Rheinmetall Waffe Munition. Rheinmetall’s objective was to augment the Group’s versatile family of 60mm ammunition and existing Rheinmetall Electronics fire control technology with a matching, future-oriented weapon system. Right from the start, development work therefore focused on low weight, speed and ergonomics.

The RSG60 has repeatedly undergone successful test firing.

GENTEX CORPORATION AWARDED GSA SCHEDULE 84 CONTRACT FOR OPS-CORE AMP™ COMMUNICATION HEADSET

Configurable headset solution delivers 3D Hear-Through and advanced hearing protection for combat operations

August 13, 2019

Carbondale, PA, August 13, 2019. Gentex Corporation, a global leader in personal protection and situational awareness solutions for defense forces, emergency responders, and industrial personnel announced it has been awarded a Schedule 84 contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the procurement arm of the federal government, for its Ops-Core  AMP Communication Headset. GSA Schedule 84 provides federal agencies with security, fire, and law enforcement equipment and services. The contract period is five years, with three separate five-year options.

“This GSA award provides a streamlined contract vehicle for federal customers to purchase our innovative new Ops-Core AMP Communication Headset, a rapid modernization path for those organizations looking to update their situational awareness, communication, and protection capabilities,” said Tom Short, Vice President Ground Systems, Gentex Corporation. “It also allows Gentex Corporation to continue its expansion of its growing communications and hearing protection product portfolio into the federal marketplace and complements existing GSA contracts held by the company.”

Introduced in the fall of 2018, the Ops-Core AMP Communication Headset features 3D Hear-Through Technology, which restores and enhances the operator’s “natural hearing” of the outside environment for improved situational awareness in high noise environments, while also providing robust hearing protection with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 22db. With the addition of optional wire-free, battery-free, Near Field Magnetic Induction (NFMI) Earplugs, NRR is increased to 34dB, while maintaining clear-communication audio and ambient hear through. For optimal flexibility and mission performance, the modular headset can be easily configured to meet a wide range of mission needs with options for headband or helmet rail-mounted use, single or double hearing protection, left- and right-handed configurations of headset downlead cable and boom microphone, and single or multi-channel communications. To learn more about the headset, go to www.opscore.com.

Federal customers can access information about the Ops-Core AMP Communication Headset through the GSA Schedules e-Library by searching by contract number (Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) GS-07F-0430K), or other keywords denoting the product or service being sought. They can also place orders on-line through GSA Advantage.

The GSA carefully evaluates companies to determine their capability for providing products to the government. The assessment analyzes a variety of a corporation’s capabilities, including organizational structure, performance history, customer satisfaction, and other source selection criteria.  Holding this contract demonstrates that Gentex Corporation is recognized as a preferred vendor and is fully authorized to conduct business directly with government agencies.
