I first heard of FN working on a commercial carbine earlier this year and now word on the street is that this will become a reality at SHOT Show. I’ve heard that FN has placed orders for parts for these guns. And if that wasn’t enough, LAV has released this photo of a semi auto carbine prototype he purchased awhile back from a former FN employee.
I can’t wait to see if there is any teeth to these rumors.
(LAS VEGAS) – K-VAR Corp. will have a special guest at the industry’s upcoming and biggest gathering known as the SHOT Show, or Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade Show and convention. The guest selected will be one of the top winners from the company’s monthly “SHOT Showoff” video contest series announced today.
This new, ongoing contest follows the success of the company’s “What’s Your Story” video contest that just awarded gift card prizes for the best videos. Each month, from September through December, K-VAR will be awarding a $500, $300 and $100 company gift card for the respective 1st, 2nd and 3rd place video winners during the SHOT Showoff contest. The 1st place videos from each month will then go to a public vote to determine the best. The contestant behind the best winning video will become K-VAR’s SHOT Showoff and be invited to attend the convention.
This new contest runs in conjunction with K-VAR’s ongoing 20th year in business celebration allowing the company to create another avenue to more deeply connect with its most loyal customers. K-VAR will use the video submissions to both promote its current products and make changes to others based on customer preference.
The SHOT Showoff contest will give participants nearly full creative control in showcasing either a K-VAR or Arsenal, Inc product. Some suggestion ideas for video submissions may include, but are not limited to:

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has issued this press release announcing their new SHOT Show management partner, ConvExx. Earlier this year, NSSF ended its three decades long relationship with UK-based Reed Exhibitions after they restricted the sale of Modern Sporting Rifles at a large industry show unrelated to SHOT Show.
NEWTOWN, Conn. — After an extensive national search involving the trade show industry’s top management companies, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) has selected ConvExx as its new SHOT Show® management partner. ConvExx replaces longtime NSSF partner Reed Exhibitions.
Based in Las Vegas, ConvExx is privately held and has produced more than 200 shows and events, working with more than a million exhibitors and attendees. ConvExx produces the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, which at nearly 1 million net square feet and 135,000 attendees is ranked as the fourth largest trade show in America by Trade Show Executive magazine (SHOT Show is ranked 16th).
“We’re excited to have ConvExx on board as our new management partner,” said Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “ConvExx offers a unique combination of extensive large-show and Las Vegas experience, which will serve our exhibitors and attendees well.”
“We’re thrilled to be selected to help NSSF manage the SHOT Show,” said ConvExx Chairman Chuck Schwartz. “The SHOT Show is one of the premier trade show events, and we are proud to be associated with NSSF and the shooting sports industry.”
The SHOT Show — the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show — is owned and sponsored by NSSF. It is the largest and most comprehensive trade show for all professionals involved with the shooting sports, hunting and law enforcement industries. The first SHOT Show Buyer Day at the Range will be held during SHOT Show 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada and SHOT Show Media Day at the Range and SHOT Show Buyer Day at the Range will now be referred to as SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range. But this doesn’t mean that they will be held the same day. In this week’s Canipe Correspondence, he mentioned four new products from Geissele Automatics. Fortunately, our friend SMG Lee took some great photos of these items.
Geissele SMR MKIV rail. I was an early adopter of the Geissele hand guard for the HK416, and I have a few each of the MKI and MKII rails for the AR series. The MKIV version utilizes a lightened barrel nut and a slimmed down hand guard that is skeletonized to remove all unneeded material, while still maintaining the strength the previous variants are known for. It has fixed rails at the front where you need them, QD cups for sling attachment, and is trimmed down for a low profile and firm grip everywhere else. They also showed a new gas block that will be my new standard, and a Glock optic mount and magazine well under their ALG brand. Look for those soon as well.
First off is the new gas block.
Here you can compare the new Mk IV rail with the Super Rail released last year.
And here it is from the top.
SMG Lee had this to say about the new rail –
Few points of interest…
1. the enlarged cooling slots are to reduce weight while not giving up any rigidity
2. the new collar for the lock bolts are design to be foolproof, so if you happen to strip the threads on the locking collar, you can always have it replaced instead of having to replace the entire rail.
3. the light weight barrel nut has been through a patented anodizing process that is only used in high friction automotive components, this process enable Geissele to produce a lighter and more durable end product.
4. Build in sling QD swivel points
5. Relief cuts all around the rail to lighten even more weight.
6. the rail to receiver interface are redesigned to maintain the rigid interface but at the same time reduce more weight.Overall, this is one of the BEST rail design i have seen in a long time, it is definitely worth your investment for your next carbine build.
Next up is the new 6 Second Mount named, according to SMG Lee, by a…
unit that conduct a lot of hostage rescue work. this was requested for work in long and confined hallway such as a fuselage….6 second to get in and engaged and eliminate threat on demand…..
And here is the new Magwell.
