Q Mini Fix

Wednesday, February 14th, 2018

Q has expanded their firearms offering with the introduction of Mini Fix, seen here nestled between The Fix and Honey Badger. Q founder, Kevin Brittingham, shared some information on this new design with us.

IMG_6494

The Q Mini Fix is a scaled down version of The Fix bolt gun with a receiver that is 1/2″ shorter. Designed to fit M4 magazines, the Mini Fix will be offered in pistol (300 BLK) and rifle (224 Valkyrie) formats.

IMG_6510

The pistol Mini Fix features an 8″ 300 BLK barrel with 1:5 twist and a Q designed Stabilizing Brace built exclusively for this firearm by SB Tactical. The Q Brace is not depicted in any of these photos.

IMG_6500

The pistol has an overall length of 17″ including the mounted Cherry Bomb muzzle brake, which accepts the Trash Panda and Thunder Chicken silencers. There is also a full length top Pic rail and the handguard covers the 8″ barrel. Here are some photos to give you an idea of how long it is.

As you can see, this model with the stock from The Fix weighs 4lbs 11oz, but it will weigh even less once the Q Brace is installed.

The rifle Mini Fix in 224 Valkyrie will come with a Q match barrel and the folding stock from The Fix.

IMG_6493

As an aside, Brittingham told me that so far, they are seeing the best performance for the .224 when using PRI 6.8 magazines, although they continue to evaluate others. The rifle will ship with what they determine is best.

IMG_6492

Brittingham related that at this point, the final detail they haven’t worked out yet, is whether they’ll incorporate M-Lok or use Q-Sert for attachments. Q-Sert is machined from 17-4 rectangular stock with an anchor at the back and pressed into place. Below is an image which shows two handguard. The top incorporates Q-Sert, while the bottom is constructed to the M-Lok standard.

Both versions are only available in the clear hard coat anodizing seen in the photos. The anodizing will look slightly different with each material so you won’t get a uniform hue across the entire gun, but it’s one of the many features which makes the Mini Fix different from everything else on the market.

Mini Fix is an adaptable design and a fixed stock and hinge adapter will be available. This way, a pistol owner may register it as an SBR, if desired. Additionally, Brittingham tells me he expects to offer .223 and 6.5 Grendel barrels.

Because Mini Fix features 80% parts commonality with The Fix, production is already in progress with shipping planned for late 2nd Quarter, 2018.

To pre-order, you’ll need to first make a $100 donation to Special Operations Care Fund and then pay half of the $2699 up front, to Q.

Minneapolis PD Selected OSS Suppressors for Super Bowl Security

Monday, February 12th, 2018

Millcreek UT – OSS Suppressors LLC is proud to announce the City of Minneapolis Police Department contracted and issued HX-QD 556k and HX-QD 762 suppressors to four Metro SWAT Warrant and Sniper teams.  These teams were responsible for securing one of the world’s major sporting events recently held in their city – Super Bowl LII.

The selection of OSS was the culmination of an extensive 4-month evaluation conducted by the Minneapolis Police Department and assisted by Sentinel MN, a leading Twin Cities source of specialized firearms, optics and suppressors for law enforcement.

Sentinel MN owner Tom Huot said “our approach takes all the hype out of the process and puts quality equipment in the hands of the officers. Starting last summer, we presented a range of suppressors from over 10 manufacturers and let the teams test performance with thousands rounds.”

“We had evaluated suppressors a few at a time in the past,” said Mark Kaspszak, Minneapolis PD SWAT sniper, “and we had the opportunity to finally take a hard look at most of the major brands head to head and compare factors like sound suppression, muzzle flash, blowback, weight/length, accuracy impact, attachment mechanism, and how the suppressors impacted our SBR and precision rifles.  After all that, leaders for both the Sniper teams and our Warrant teams unanimously selected OSS as the suppressor we wanted on our guns.”

“I want to thank Tom and Sentinel MN for their extensive work and professional approach” said Chris Estadt, VP of Marketing and Sales. “The Minneapolis SWAT officers were able to test the best suppressors on the market, and to individually experience the advantages of OSS’s patented Flow-Through™ technology and our new HELIX-QD 5.56 and 7.62 suppressors. We’re proud of the public servants who are dedicated to keeping our communities safe,” he said, “and we’re excited that more and more law enforcement professionals are experiencing the unmatched advantages of OSS.”

SIG Range Day 2018 – 300URG Integrally Suppressed Upper

Sunday, January 21st, 2018

I gave you a sneak peek yesterday of a new integrally suppressed 300 BLK Upper Receiver Group from SIG called the 300SRG. It uses the MCX short stroke piston architecture and integrates a 6.75″ barrel with a 19 baffle titanium suppressor.

Several questions came up regarding the overall length so I asked SIG’s John Hollister.

John verified that it is in fact, a single stamp upper. In fact, during development the called it the “one stamp”. The overall Barrel length is about 16.75″. Below, you can see the pin where the suppressor is pinned to the barrel.

John also told me the official measurement for sound suppression is 121 dB, but that was taken in the winter. He’s regularly recorded 119 dB.

He went in to tell me that it does leverage technology developed for a government program for a special customer, but it was not either of the programs I referenced yesterday, PDW or SURG. However, SIG’s submission to both of them leverages that same work 300URG does.

OSS Introduces New HELIX-QD Suppressor Line

Friday, January 19th, 2018

IMG_6281

Millcreek UT – OSS Suppressors LLC is proud to announce the new HELIX-QD suppressor line in 5.56k, 7.62 and Magnum configurations.

“Our new Helix-QD (Quick Disconnect) line is the culmination of hard work that began two years ago when OSS Suppressors acquired Operators Suppressor Systems,” said John Spurrier, CEO of OSS Suppressors. “Armed with insights and feedback from customers, dealers, OEMs and military partners, our design and engineering team implemented a development process that intensively analyzed and tested new designs to extremes. The result is an evolution of OSS’s Flow-Through™ technology in this new one-piece design” he said. “We’re excited by the reaction we’re getting from dealers and partners for these new quieter, shorter, lighter and stronger suppressors.”

• HX-QD 556k: a short, extremely durable suppressor. It delivers sub-140 dB performance, is full-auto rated and easily passes the USSOCOM Reliability Stress Test – it’s designed and built for abuse. MSRP is $899.
• HX-QD 762: a strong “utility player” suppressor. With its design and development heavily influenced by the U.S. Army CSASS requirements, the HX-QD 762 delivers 136-139 dB performance, is full-auto rated up to 7.62, and is cross-platform compatible from 5.56 up to .300 WM — there’s no other suppressor like it on the market. MSRP is $999.
• HX-QD Magnum Ti: a short, lightweight and durable suppressor for large bore rifles – ideal for most .30 caliber platforms. With a fully welded Grade 5 titanium body and heat treated 17-4 stainless steel and Grade 5 titanium internals, the HX-QD Magnum Ti is full-auto rated for 5.56, and delivers hearing safe suppression from 5.56 (sub-133 dB) to .338 (sub-139 dB) — no other .338 suppressor is this versatile. MSRP is $1599.

“What’s most impressive about this new product line is how our engineers built the unmatched benefits of Flow-Through into a simpler one-piece design and improved or maintained the benefits,” said Chris Estadt, VP of Marketing and Sales. “For example, the new tool-less HX-QD Torque Lock System (TLS) – maybe the most advanced yet simple mounting system in the market – uses the rotational pressure from gasses exiting the suppressor to keep it snug on the muzzle device. It can’t shoot loose and you don’t need a complicated mechanical device…that will ultimately fail.” he said. “How snug? Testers have said detaching the HX-QD can is like opening a pickle jar.”

OSS’s disciplined product development process and simple one-piece design will accelerate continued innovation and new products – including rimfire and handgun suppressors – for dealers and their customers.

See the new HELIX-QD suppressors at SHOT Show (Booth #1561), The Industry Day Range (Lane SR 35) and ATAC Range.

Magpul Suppressor Cover – 5.5”

Wednesday, January 17th, 2018

F0A3AFF3-F839-40FA-9DEF-D0AA3641D5A4

The Magpul® Suppressor Cover – 5.5” is the first product of its kind able to stand up to the extreme temperatures caused by extended strings of semi-automatic and automatic fire and still protect the user against burns by keeping internal can temperatures at safe levels and cool-off times short. The Magpul® Suppressor Cover – 5.5” is made up of a heat-resistant polymer sleeve overlaid onto a raised stainless steel heat shield that mounts directly to the suppressor body with steel clamps. It minimizes heat transfer to keep external cover temperatures up to 1000 degrees F cooler than the surface of the suppressor by allowing high volumes of cooling airflow across the can, reducing retained heat and the damage it can cause. Our Suppressor Cover withstands USSOCOM suppressor abuse requirements and numerous cycles of suppressor surface temperatures over 1300 degrees F with ease, all while allowing you to sling your rifle without burns or melted clothing. The Magpul Suppressor Cover is also an enhanced thermal insulator and signature reduction device, which significantly mitigates negative visible mirage effects to the shooter’s sight picture, reduces external suppressor body impact damage, and lessens the chance of accidental contact injury or other heat-related damage to personnel or equipment during weapon firing or cool down. Optimized for 1.5” outer diameter round suppressors with a body length of approximately 5.5” (not including attachment hardware/ interface) such as the Surefire SOCOM556-RC2.  Other lengths are in the works and are coming soon.
