Max Talk Monday: Texas Class 2019 Break Contact Flank (Right) Team Drill

Monday, March 25th, 2019

This is the fifteenth installment of ‘Max Talk Monday’ which shares select episodes from a series of instructional videos. Max Velocity Tactical (MVT) has established a reputation on the leading edge of tactical live fire and force on force training. MVT is dedicated to developing and training tactical excellence at the individual and team level.

Break Contact Flank (Right) Team Drill is video footage of a team break contact drill conducted at the Texas Class 2019. This was a team level live fire training exercise with simulated enemy to the right side of the trail. As some are likely to point out, the team was moving on a trail, and a rolling (multi-target) contact is simulated from the right side, in order to keep the peel going for longer for training benefit. Utilizing a trail is an effective training aid because the route in is clearly markedly / recognizable; moving back along same is the drill for getting out of the contact – back along the route already traveled. The drill shown is the immediate action drill, which can be subsequently modified by leadership if required due to increased complexity of the situation. However, it is important to have a drilled, violent, effective immediate action drill to maximize the chances of surviving a contact such as this.

RE Factor Tactical – Defense Target

Friday, March 22nd, 2019

The Defense Target

The Defense Target is designed to give you an enhanced training experience by offering one target that can be customized with 18 fitted stickers. This allows the target to be used in multiple different scenarios.  Available sticker areas include:

Left Hand

Right Hand

Waistline

A Unique Shooting Target

Each sticker is designed to perfectly match up with the target’s hands or waistline to create a new target scenario that appears natural to the shooter.  This allows instructors to take one target and change scenarios rapidly. This keeps students from making engagement decisions without assessing the target- because they memorized the targets after performing multiple runs.

The Defense Target matches with 18 different stickers (sold separately). These stickers overlay on the right hand, left hand and waistline seamlessly.  These durable 3 Mil stickers allow for hundreds of target variations. Stickers are designed to be usable while wearing gloves.

Target Scoring

The Defense Target’s scoring areas are designed to be as close to the average human’s anatomy as possible.  The “5” head box measures the average width and height of a human head while the “5” heart box is purposefully offset slightly right (target’s left) and sized to the average human heart.  Both “5” areas are designed to mimic a kill zone. The “4” zones match the average lung size and pelvic girdle area and are designed to mimic a shot in which death is probable but not guaranteed.  The “3” represents the outline of the average human body and represents an area where death is possible but not likely.

This year, Helix Training are delivering a number of RoSPA approved, open three-day PPE courses. These courses are designed to qualify an individual as a PPE inspector with an understanding of the following:

• Health and safety regulations related to the choice, purchase and use of PPE and work equipment.

• Responsibilities for the inspection of PPE prior to, during and after use including management systems.

• Practical skills providing the user with the ability to identify damage and defects, and the procedures to retire damaged or obsolete items.

• How the above relate to government and military organisations and activities both within the UK and overseas whether conducting training, operations or adventure training.

The course is assessed with both a written and practical exam on the final day. On successful completion of the course, the qualification is valid for three years.

TYR Group – Irregular Warfare (IW) 101: Resistance and Insurgency – June 1-5, 2019

Tuesday, March 5th, 2019

TYR Group is well known for training in tracking. Founder John Hurth is a retired Special Forces NCO who thought it would be a good idea to offer a training course in the fundamentals of irregular warfare for those who haven’t been exposed to this concept in the past. With so much of this going on across the world, I think he’s on to something.

Irregular Warfare (IW) 101: Resistance and Insurgency isn’t a hands on course but rather presented from an academic point of view, explaining the chart above and how the concepts apply to historical and current events.

Subjects include:

• Introduction to Irregular Warfare

• Underlying causes of resistance movements

• Organization and activities of the resistance (the Underground, Auxiliary, Guerrilla Force)

• Clandestine and Covert behavior

• Evolutionary Dynamics

• Resistance Leadership

• Influences on motivation and behavior

• Ideology, Group Dynamics and Radicalization

• Psychological Risk Factors

• Underground Psychological Operations: Propaganda and Agitation

• Passive Resistance

• Active Resistance

• Subversion and manipulation of crowds

• Paramilitary Operations

• Resistance recruitment, training, and financial support

This course in Oregon is conveniently broken down into two modules. Students may take the first module taught on day one and two, or take full advantage of completing the entire five-day IW 101 course.

The course is ITAR Restricted.
