L5AWM

Friday, August 5th, 2011

The Advanced Warfighter Magazine from Lancer is becoming popular with users. We received this short summary from a serving member of the US military:

On the AWM mags, they are a big hit. The guys that I have given them to like them a lot and like the way that they are functioning.

I even went so far as to load a clear magazine to 28 rounds, lay it on the concrete and run it over a couple of times with a jeep. We even stopped on top of it and turned the wheels on it, grinding it into the concrete. I then picked it up and went down to the firing line and it functioned without any issues, and is still functioning today.

On another mag, we did a “cold” test. We loaded the magazine full again (28 rounds) and kept it in the freezer for about 15-20 min. Then we took it outside and shot 7 rounds and then dropped the mag out of the mag well onto concrete from a standing position. Again no issues with it cracking or anything. We then picked it up and finished off the magazine with no malfunctions.

Lancer uses a progressive mold to fully integrate PTFE coated steel feedlips into the polymer design. Additionally, they have incorporated a textured surface to facilitate a positive grip. Finally, they designed the L5ARM to even fit the H&K 416. Available in 20 and 30 round models in Translucent, Translucent Black, Translucent Brown, Black, OD, FDE, and Foliage.

SPA Defense has the magazines available for unit/agency purchase through their GSA contract # GS07F5566P.

LTC Lucas Assumes Charter for PM Individual Weapons

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Yesterday, LTC Shawn Lucas (right in the photo above) assumed the charter for Program Manager Individual Weapons from LTC Chris Lehner who had held the position since September, 2008. LTC Lucas comes to his new position with a wealth of small arms experience having served as a Systems Coordinator for Small Arms and most recently as a Program Analyst for Soldier/Maneuver Systems in the Army G-8, Program Analysis and Evaluation Directorate.

A change of charter is akin to a change of command in a troop unit. The ceremony was officiated by COL Scott Armstrong, Project Manager Soldier Weapons, (left in the photo above). Earlier this month, COL Armstrong assumed the charter of PM Soldier Weapons from COL Douglas Tamilio. This is an exciting time to be working in Army small arms with dual pathed strategies for improvements to the existing M4 carbine as well as the search for an entirely new Individual Carbine.

Congratulations!

McNett Adds Realtree AP and Realtree Max-4 to Camo Form Lineup

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

We’ve mentioned McNett Corp’s Camo Form® Protective Camouflage Wrap on several occasions. While it is very popular with the hunting crowd, it also does a great job for those who want to camouflage their military and LE small arms. The addition of Realtree APâ„¢ and Realtree Max-4â„¢ add even more options to the tool box so that you can fine tune your weapon’s or equipment’s camouflage. Remember, Camo Form not only helps conceal your gear, it also protects your weapon’s finish as well as eliminates errant noises by padding parts. It’s self-clinging and easy to apply. What’s more, it isn’t permanent and won’t mar the finish of your kit.

The Institute of Military Technology

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

We recently found out that, naturally enough, Knight’s Armament Corp has a collection of Weapons, Military Vehicles and “Significant Memorabilia.” Unlike many collections which are kept under lock and key, KAC has decided to turn them into a sort of museum. Formed from the private collection of Reed Knight Jr, it is better known as The Institute of Military Technology. According their website, IMT “exists to Preserve, Educated and Motivate anyone who peruses this extensive collection.”

Here you can see the Hall of Armor which is joined by the Hall of Modern Arms and Hall of US Arms. In addition to eduction, the collection also serves as a “reference library” for weapons that are available for study by researchers at KAC.

The Institute of Military Technology is located in Titusville, Florida. To learn more, check out the website. www.instmiltech.com

The SureFire MAG5-60 in Action

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

SureFire fans Patriot36 produced this demonstration of the MAG5-60 with an M16A2, LWRC SBR, and FN SCAR. All-in-all, they are well built magazines; manufactured to spec. Unfortunately, the team didn’t demonstrate the compatibility of the magazines with out-of-spec receivers. As with the PMAG, this has been the only issue we have seen with the SureFire magazines. However, they do run like a sewing machine in mil-spec weapons. The problem isn’t with the magazines. They are built properly. It’s the guns that shooters try to use them with that are the issue. Normally, out-of-spec guns rifles wouldn’t be a problem but the USMC’s adoption of the M27 IAR from H&K has made this a bit of an issue, despite the Marines’ purchase of a fairly small numbers of this 416 variant.
