Army Chief of Staff Discusses Next Generation Squad Weapon

WASHINGTON — Several prototypes of a next-generation squad weapon were advanced forward for testing and a request for proposal was sent out, said Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Mark A. Milley during a news conference at the Association of the U.S. Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition, Oct. 8.

Test firing of the weapon prototype indicates that it has an accurate range far in excess of any existing military rifle today, he said.

Additionally, it fires at speeds that far exceed the velocity of bullets today and it will penetrate any existing body armor or body armor expected to exist over the next 25 years, he added. This sophisticated weapon also has a sight system that integrates into Soldiers’ gear that incorporates the latest in information technology.

Producing such a highly capable weapon is clearly in the realm of the possible, Milley noted, after speaking with engineers designing the prototypes. Right now, feedback from the prototypes looks like it will fire 6.8mm rounds.

Because the weapon is so capable and so sophisticated, “not surprisingly, we expect it to be expensive,” he said. “So we’re probably not going to field the entire Army with this weapon. We’ll prioritize to those Soldiers in all components who are in close combat quarters-type duties such as Infantry, Armor, Cavalry, Rangers, Special Forces, combat engineers.”

The Army is looking to buy somewhere in the range of 100,000 of these weapons initially and may expand that later on, he said. The Army hopes to have them out on the range at Fort Benning, Georgia, hopefully by next summer.

“We look forward to it. It’s exciting. But we don’t want to speak too much about its technical capabilities because our adversaries watch these things very closely, so we prefer to keep the technical details out of the news,” he said. “The bottom line is we’re committed to a new rifle and a new squad automatic weapon.”

Crimson Trace Releases New Riflescope Line

(Wilsonville, OR) – America’s Top Brand of laser sights, Crimson Trace®, today announced the release of 11 new riflescopes designed to meet the needs of tactical, long range, hunting and recreational firearms enthusiasts. This new custom-designed riflescope line ranges from a 1-4X24mm in the sporting line up to a 5-25X56mm long-range tactical riflescope. Riflescopes designed for short, medium, and long range applications are included in each of the three series and numerous custom reticles are offered.

Each riflescope incorporates advanced exterior and interior components designed by Crimson Trace engineers in Oregon. Other features include advanced ED fully multi-coated Japanese glass with illuminated custom reticles in the first focal plane to ensure consistent sizes. The new riflescopes incorporate seven custom-designed reticles with specific purposes and applications.

Each riflescope offers a range of magnification options and provides generous eye relief.  The line includes models with 30mm and 34mm one-piece tubes with objective lenses in diameters ranging from 24mm to 56mm. All new riflescopes include specially designed turrets, making adjustments easier when wearing gloves. All riflescopes are equipped with flip-up caps on the ocular and objective lenses to protect the glass and help keep the riflescope clean. Subdued internal components reduce glare and bright spots resulting in improved vision and a clearer image. The line also includes a 3-9X40mm riflescope with an illuminated reticle and 34mm tube and two 1-8X28mm riflescopes with 34mm tubes.

All Crimson Trace riflescopes are fog-, shock-, water- and dust-proof. The illuminated reticles can be adjusted to varying intensity levels of illumination to accommodate surrounding light conditions and user preferences. Each riflescope includes the lens caps, owner’s manual and reticle manual, any required adjustment tools, and a lens cleaning cloth. Max Talk Monday: Tactical Problem Solving & Decision Making (+ Hasty Attack)

This is the ninth installment of ‘Max Talk Monday’ which shares select episodes from a series of instructional videos. Max Velocity Tactical (MVT) has established a reputation on the leading edge of tactical live fire and force on force training. MVT is dedicated to developing and training tactical excellence at the individual and team level.

Max is a tactical trainer and author, a lifelong professional soldier with extensive military experience. Fibrotex To Manufacture US Army Camouflage Nets In Kentucky

Fibrotex USA was selected earlier this year to manufacture the next generation of Ultra-Lightweight Camouflage Net System for the US Army. Fibrotex USA is the US subsidiary of the Israeli multispectral concealment specialists Fibrotex. They have chosen Outdoor Venture Corporation of Stearns, Kentucky as their manufacturing partner. This move will bring about 350 jobs to one of the poorest counties in Kentucky. McCreary County was once home to an OVC facility which manufactures tents but the plant was closed years ago. Fibrotex USA will help revitalize it and also construct an additional building on the site. ULCANS manufacturing is set to begin in the summer of 2019.

Female Officers Attend 2nd Annual ‘Back the Women in Blue’ Presented by GLOCK

AUSTIN — A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) hosted eleven law enforcement officers for the 2nd Annual ‘Back the Women in Blue’ Presented by GLOCK. The event took place Sept 25-28, 2018, in north Texas at the Texas Handgun Academy in Dallas and Mission 160 Range in Whitewright. Participants included female officers, deputies, constables, and troopers representing large municipalities, rural counties, and state agencies from five different states.

“It was extremely gratifying to see a tremendous amount of support for the badge that I’m very proud to put on every day to protect and serve my community,” said Officer Meghan Vold of the Park Forest (IL) Police Department. “Every day, in every city and town across the country, police officers are performing vital services that help make their communities safer. Being afforded stellar training like this aids us in carrying out our mission with honor and integrity.”

Training included behavioral analysis, body language cues and pre-attack indicators, communication skills, team building, situational decision-making skills, and advanced firearms skills. Range time culminated with Simunitions scenarios to allow officers put their training into practice. With significant support from GLOCK, ammunition provided by Federal Premium, targets provided by Action Target, and scenario cars provided by Beard’s Towing, AG & AG was able to provide the the training materials, range fees, hotel, and all meals for the officers.

Lead instructor Heather Eckert is the owner of E4Defense, which sponsored training for the event. Heather holds multiple certifications, including Master Firearms Instructor in Shotgun, Patrol Rifle, and Handgun; RBT/Force on Force; and Specialty Training Certifications. She is an active member of ILEETA, IALEFI, and IAWP, and is a Texas DPS PSB Level III Instructor. Detective Josh White is an Army Veteran, Texas Peace Officer, TCOLE Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Force on Force Instructor, and DT Instructor. He is Double Brown belt in Shuri Ryu Karate and Blue belt in Tae Kwon Do.

“The friendship bonds and camaraderie I made this week will stay with me forever,” said Sergeant Kimberly Gill of the Sunset Valley (TX) Police Department. “The incredible generosity of the event sponsors and the gracious efforts by A Girl & A Gun was awe inspiring.”
