SHOT Show 17 – SureFire Masterfire

I did not see this one coming. SureFire has introduced a Polymer Holster, designed to be used specifically with pistols equipped with their weapon lights.

The Masterfire Rapid Deploy Holster will fit most pistols because it uses a proprietary cam and lug system to grip the weapon light in two places to offer level 3 retention with primary and secondary lock systems. This means it will also work with suppressor equipped pistols.

You may notice and “On/Off” Switch at the side of the holster. When selected, this functionality will turn the weapon light on when the pistol is drawn.

Above, you can see the thumb button. Once it’s depressed, you rock the grip of the weapon slightly forward as you bring the pistol into action.

The Masterfire is designed to work with these lights. You’re getting a sneak peek at some upcoming Polymer weapon lights from SureFire.

SHOT Show 17 – Rocky Venator Camo

SHOT Show 17 – Crye Precision

A couple of years ago Crye Precision made the decision to not exhibit anything new at SHOT Show that wouldn’t be released on that same year. Consequently, there aren’t a lot of new items on display but they are definitely worth checking out.

Maritime JPC 2.0

The big story is the Maritime JPC 2.0. Using the basic construction of the JPC 2.0, including the rapid don/doff capability, this Maritime variant is manufactured from wayer shedding materials like mesh. Models available to accommodate SAPI and Swimmer Cut armor plates.

Maritime Pouches

Crye Precision created a suite of Maritime Pouches accompany the Maritime JPC 2.0. Using similar mesh construction of the Maritime JPC, the suite consists of Frag Pouch, GP Pouch 6x6x3, 5.56-7.62 Pouch, GP Pouch 9x7x3, 152/Bottle Pouch, amd Pack Zip-On Panel which are the most popular of the Smart Pouch Suite (SPS).

Maritime AVS

Similar to the Maritime JPC, this version of the AVS was developed for a special customer. They eliminated the foam in the back panel and incorporated printed mesh.

MOLLE Zip-On Panel 2.0

Updated version of the original, zip-on panel for Crye armor carriers. Incorporates bolt cutter/hydration pocket. All of the 2.0 zip-on panels are now available in just two sizes, S/M and L/XL rather than four sizes for the plate bags. Fits many other brand vests.

Pack Zip-On Panel 2.0

This Top Loading zip-on pack panel incorprates bolt cutter/hydration pocket as well as two side access mag pockets. Fits many other brand vests.

Pouch Zip-On Panel 2.0

Like the others, this zip-on panel also attaches to the rear of an armor carrier. This one features the bolt cutter/hydration pocket as well as two side access mag pockets, but it also offers GP pouches which will accept the SPS inserts. Fits many other brand vests besides Crye.

Hitcoat Shoulders

Some customers wanted the molded armor protection of the Hitcoat shoulders but in a fashion which would attach to a more traditional armor vest.

Range Belt

The Range Belt is very similar to the LRB except that it offers an Austrialpin buckle for convenience as a more traditional belt and no hard loop. It’s not intended as a life support item. Designed to be worn alone, inside the Modular Riggers Belt, or on top of the MRB Inner Belt, the Range Belt has inner Velcro to mate with the MRB Inner Belt. Additionally, it can be worn with other belt systems.

Contaminated Water Dive Suit

Developed for the Office of Naval Research, this dry suit attacked the problem of the interface of the suit to the full face mask which is where contaminants often infiltrate.

The Crye Precision solution was to move the interface away from the face as seen here.

One advantage is that facial hair doesn’t affect the seal. Additionally, this solution eliminates the head harness, long the source of headaches.

SHOT Show 17 – Blue Force Gear MARCO Dispenser

Blue Force Gear’s Marking and Recognition Chemstick Organizer Dispenser – MARCO – is a more efficient, effective and compact way to carry marking lights for room clearing. With the MARCO dispenser, users can save critical time during preparation during
pre-mission tasks by not having to unwrap, tape and bundle chem sticks.

The dispensers design makes it simple for users – simply open the Mylar package with the pre-loaded dispenser, insert the MARCO dispenser inside of the belt or MOLLE holster and proceed with the mission. The design prevents the accidental activation of a chem stick, which can cause unwanted light.

In addition to being used during missions, the MARCO dispenser also has valuable application to the hunting world when out in the field trailing downed game at night.

The 2-inch mini chem sticks deployed from the MARCO dispenser provide the equivalent light of a 4-inch chem stick as seen through Night Vision devices and are self illuminating, continuing to glow rain or shine.

SHOT Show Media Day – SilencerCo Maxim 9

Last year, we featured an article on SilencerCo’s integrally-suppressed Maxim 9 as seen at Media Day at the Range. At that time, it was a pre-production model with a 3D-printed frame.

This year, the Maxim 9s at the range were still pre-production, but much closer to the final product, and more importantly, we actually got a brief bit of range time with them. Major changes when compared to last year’s pre-production Maxim 9 include:

– Newly textured grip; note it is still 3D printed
– RMR cutout forward on the pistol, in a non-reciprocating position
– New trigger
– KeyMod slots under the dust cover to mount a light or laser

Yeah, you read that right, KeyMod slots. It’s a bit unorthodox for a handgun, but if it works, right?

Also, as it turns out the Maxim 9 features a delayed roller lock blowback action instead of a traditional short recoil, locked breech action.

SilencerCo is currently in the process of having a third-party manufacturer produce the grip frames for the production model Maxim 9s. Once that’s complete, we can expect to see the Maxim 9 out in the market in the coming months.

SHOT Show Media Day – Hudson H9

The Hudson H9 was the talk of this year’s Media Day at the Range. For those of you who aren’t in the know, the H9 is the first production weapon from Texas-based Hudson Manufacturing. It’s an all-steel 9mm pistol that features a striker-fire action and takes plenty of inspiration from the 1911 platform.

Hudson went over multiple iterations of the H9 over a period of 3 years before finalizing on the current design, which includes a machined full-steel frame and slide, low bore axis, and G10 VZ Grips.

Our range time with the H9 was unfortunately short; 5 rounds short. Even so, our initial impression was (mostly) a positive one. The trigger is very good with short travel and a smooth reset. Muzzle flip is a bit less pronounced thanks to the low bore axis, with the weight (34 oz. unloaded) further contributing to the reduction in recoil. Throw in the clear, defined irons and you have a very accurate sidearm.

The ‘mostly’ in the above paragraph stems from two failures-to-feed that occurred when another of our staffers fired the gun earlier in the day. The attendant pointed out that the magazines are still prototypes, so the issue could have been because of that.

Finally, there is the elephant in the room to address, the MSRP, which is about $1200. The H9 is definitely a well-designed and great-shooting pistol, but 12 bills can be considered a pretty high price for what can accurately be described as a double-stack striker-fired 9mm. Ultimately, it’s up to the market to decide when the H9 releases later this year.
