ORWM – Beyond

January 10th, 2017

Coming this Summer, this is the Argus Hoodie from Beyond. It’s made from a 300 weight, brushed Polartec fleece. I like the crossover hood opening and monkey paw feature. The Argus Hoodie will be offered in Coyote, as seen here.

This is the Level 10 is based on the Arctic Combat Concept ensemble accomplished last year.  When it’s used as a system it will go down to -50 deg F in static – situation and to -70 Deg F while moving thanks to the 7 oz Climashield fill.  It incorporates a North American Coyote ruff, available for separate order in packs of two.  This is because the ruffs are non-Berry but also the best available for use in extreme cold environments.  Due to the Berry issue, Beyond worked within the framework of the DFAR and offers them for separate order.

The front flap can be opened with a one hand pull to access an armor carrier beneath.

The Anorak features dual side zips to facilitate donning and doffing and the seat of both Anorak and Trouser are reinforced with Cordura.

Beyond products are available for unit and agency order through ADS Inc.

ORWM – CTOMS

January 10th, 2017

While most companies start out by offering commercial colored mountaineering and then add earthtones for tactical customers, CTOMS has done the opposite. Founded by Canadian SAR Tech Chris Kopp, CTOMS had tactical colored kit from the outset and has just started to introduce Orange versions of their TRACE systems for Search and Rescue work.

These two Green kits are identical except for the SOF and SAR colorways.

They have an ever expanding lone of Orange offerings, to supplement their existing line of Matte Grey and Olive Drab. Interestingly, they’ve also introduced Blue carabiners for the rope end of any devices.

They are also introducing Orange pouches for the kits.

ORWM – Altama

January 10th, 2017

I was surprised to find Altama in the Mystery Ranch booth and even more surprised to get a sneak Peek of some new shoes being officially released at next week’s SHOT Show.

This is the Aboottabad (in honor of the location of UBL’s demise) series. It consists of a Trail Run Low and Trail Run Mid and a Mid to Heavy Weight Hiker.

All of the outsoles in this line get their DNA from the old Panama tread of the USGI Jungle Boot.

Here’s an OTB Maritime Assault Shoe in Low Viz colors.

ORWM – Mystery Ranch

January 10th, 2017

This report on new items from Mystery Ranch Outdoor products, coming Fall 17. The military/tactical items will come next week at SHOT Show. Both of these are what I would consider commuter bags.

At 22 liters, the Rip Ruck is made from 420D Cordura in a mountain ruck style.  Look for a separate zippered pocket for a laptop next to the back along with a dual zipper main pocket and two smaller outer pockets which replicate the two-zipper styling.

The Slick is just that.  It’s a 23 liter pack made from ripstop nylon and features a dedicated, zippered, laptop compartment along with a main pocket with a half moon zippered opening.  On either side are slit pockets which will accept a water bottle.

ORWM – Arc’teryx

January 10th, 2017

The big Arc’teryx story at ORWM is the Alpha IS Jacket.

The IS suffix is for Insulated and the Alpha IS relies on ThermaTek for incredible warmth to weight ratio.  ThermaTek is a hollow core fiber which gets a DWR bath and is then laminated to a face fabric with a second DWR bath.  That face fabric is an air permeable Gore-Tex fabric.  It’s a very technical piece.  Use the Alpha IS in cold/wet/windy environments down to around -15 Celsius.

It also features the new TPU zipper pulls above and Cohesive Cord locks below which tuck into the harness belt.

Coming Fall 17.
