Warrior East – Keynote Speech – General Michael Hayden

July 14th, 2016

Warrior Easy kicked off by a speech about General Michael Hayden (USAF, Ret). A career intelligence officer, he served as both Director, National Security Agency and Director, Central Intelligence Agency.

He put the world into a historical perspective, contrasting the Cold War-era with now. The world was more dangerous but certainly not as complicated as today. He also related that everything happens more quickly now.

He also discussed the transition form Hard to Soft Power in the post-Cold War world.

The threats are different; in the post-industrial-era, it’s less nation-states and more transnational groups.

The world has changed. One of General Hayden’s most poignant comments was, “Nations from the post-WWII world order are gone, and not coming back.” That really sunk in for me.

Another observation in a changed world, is that time was, the State was not the enforcer of theological principles. Everyone thought that. He said, “We may have been premature.”

General Hayden concentrated on leadership of complex organizations during times of crisis. He mentioned the need for leadership but he humbly submits that he is not the best qualified in the room to talk about leadership and asked the room to recognize Medal of Honor awardee Sal Giunta.

General Hayden has never been able to finish a book on management. He only gets about 1/3 through before he stops.

Instead, he offered these lessons learned:
-Humility, Real Humility
-More doing of the right things
-Doing only what leaders can do
-Truly loving your people
-Being true to your self

Interestingly, during the Q&A, General Hayden brought out an anti-2A concept in response to a question regarding the intelligence community’s duty to protect the nation while respecting the civil rights of its citizens. He said that it shouldn’t be as much a fourth amendment issue as a second amendment one and posed a new tactic to restrict ownership of firearms. His position is that the restriction of certain types of weapons should be seen as an anti-terrorism measure. This is an obvious expansion of current attempts by anti-2A legislators to deny due process and civil rights to those on the so-called ‘No-Fly’ list by making it illegal for them to exercise their right to purchase firearms. His viewpoint reminds me that not every threat to liberty is external. His final slide certainly sums it up.

Wild Things has introduced a version of the classic GI Poncho; new coated snaps, corner grommets, and same coated material in MultiCam but no waist drawstring. The hood has an internal, elastic drawstring so it can be adjusted for weather, or closed up for use as a shelter.

TYR Tactical PICO-DS Assaulters Plate Carrier

July 14th, 2016

Earlier this week, I attended the TYR Tactical Innovate Or Die Tour at the DuPont plant near Richmond, Virginia. One of the products I got a chance to check the out was the new PICO-DS Assaulters Plate Carrier. One look at it and it made me think of the old Diamondback Tactical Fast Attack Plate Carrier. Of course, the PICO-DS has been greatly updated from that old, simple design.

The TYR Tactical PICO-DS Assaulters Plate Carrier is lightweight, configurable and scalable  Made from TYR’s PV, which is durable and also enhances the ballistic attributes of armor within the vest. A very nice feature is the internal, padded, areas of the PICO-DS which are constructed with 4-way stretch tweave for additional freedom of movement and comfort.

This plate carrier utilizes a five piece design called the Integrated Ballistic System that increases ballistic protection, decreases side spall and reduces back face deformation.

FEATURES:
• PALS Webbing for MOLLE Attachment
• Features the Swift Clip system for integrating chest racks and other accessories
• The circumference of the New Mesh Base Cummerbund incorporates poly mesh which quickens dry time in both arid and humid climates. It also allows excess heat to vent, further decreasing dry time. It also has two rows of MOLLE/PALS webbing to attach pouches.
• Removable MOLLE Front Flap with MOLLE/PALS webbing to attach mission specific pouches
• NEW 1.5” Low Profile Shoulder Pads with easy front to back overlapping adjustment
• Ballistic Vein™ increases load carriage performance, provides a rigid platform, reduces fatigue, stabilizes and enhances soft armor inserts.
• Certified T52/SP Soft Armor Level II NIJ0101.06 Specifications

Optional Accessories:
• 3 Row Mesh Cummerbund
• Side Buckle Kit
• Happy Mag Front Mag
• Front Ballistic Lower Ab
• Front Low Ab General Purpose Pouch
• Side Wing Mag Pouches
• Side Wing Radio Pouches

Carrier size relates to the size of the plates:
Small: 9.75″x12” Plate Pocket
Medium: 10.5″x12.75” Plate Pocket
Large: 11.25″x13.5” Plate Pocket
XLarge: 11.75″x14.65” Plate Pocket

Available in two different styles depending on the profile (thickness) of your plate.
PICO 4 will hold the Morgan Level III plate (.75” thick)
PICO 6 will hold TYR-HA3/7 plate styles (.5” thick)

La Fête Nationale

July 14th, 2016

Referred to as Bastille Day here in the US, the 14th of July is La Fête Nationale or National Celebration in France. It commemorates the Fête de la Fédération of 1790, which signified the unity of the French people one year after the Storming of the Bastille during the revolution. The French Revolution ironically succeeded in overthrowing King Louis XVI, who supported the American Revolution against King George III of England.

The day is marked with a military parade along the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Below is a short video, showcasing last year’s parade.

GunfightersINC CAS/C5S IWB Holster

July 14th, 2016

For Immediate Release: The current market trends show an overwhelming push towards lightweight, highly concealable single stack pistols. These pistols are easy to carry and with the right holster, are barely noticeable under a wide array of cover garments. The major trade-off with a single stack 9mm is capacity. Even with a +1 or +2 baseplate, you are still sitting at half the round count of a double stack pistol such as a Glock 19. While it is certainly an option to carry magazines in pockets or in a separate pouch, we wanted to offer a system that would allow you to have a spare magazine at the ready in a streamlined low-profile system.

The CAS/C5S IWB Holster is available in two configurations: The CAS positions the firearm vertical for easy concealment and your magazine at 30° angle for the fastest and most natural possible in the 12 O’clock position. The C5S is designed to sit on the strong side of the body, with a canted firearm (10-15°) and slightly canted magazine (10°) for fast draw and minimal printing in the 3-5 O’clock position. The rounds are set to face toward the firearm to enhance quick reloads. The holster is contoured to have a steep curve that pulls the firearm and magazine into the body to reduce printing and aid concealment.

We designed the CAS/C5S holster to be a simple, one-piece unit that you can easily take on and off with little trouble. The minimalist design prevents discomfort by limiting bulk and unnecessary material, yet still offers a full sweatshield to protect your firearm. No fighting overly complex clip systems or bulky brackets. No threaded fasteners to work loose. No magazines floating around in pockets or an extra holster that you have to deal with. Our experience has shown us that if your holster is uncomfortable or needlessly complex, you won’t wear it.

The CAS/C5S is available for a wide variety of compact and subcompact firearms from most major firearms including 1911s, Glock, FNH, H&K, Sig, Smith and Wesson, Springfield, Ruger and Walther.

AEC Narrow Fabrics Awarded OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certification

July 13th, 2016

Zürich (July 12, 2016)– The OEKO-TEX® Association is pleased to announce that AEC Narrow Fabrics (Asheboro Elastics Corporation) has been awarded the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, that ensures that AEC narrow fabrics have been tested to be free of harmful levels of more than 300 potentially harmful substances. AEC manufactures a broad assortment of knitted and woven narrow fabrics for apparel, home textiles, medical, automotive, marine, and commercial applications. The Asheboro, NC company has operations in the US and Central America with global distribution. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification was issued for products made at AEC’s facilities in El Salvador and Honduras, Central America.

“The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification is an important element of our overall quality assurance and product safety programs,” said Charles Adams, President of AEC Narrow Fabrics. “This voluntary certification is recognized and respected by our customers around the world, especially by those who are OEKO-TEX® certified themselves.”

By securing the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification for products made in its El Salvador and Honduras manufacturing facilities, AEC products made there can be used without concern in other OEKO-TEX® certified products. The modular nature of the OEKO-TEX® certification allows manufacturers to take credit for their suppliers’ certifications when applying for certification for their own products, therefore saving time and expense.

“Our customers appreciate us for our quality, service, and innovation,” commented Adams. “Now with OEKO-TEX® certification, we’re giving them another reassurance that our products are made with respect for the wellbeing of our associates, our customers’ associates, and the consumers who ultimately use the products that include our narrow fabrics.”

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 list of concerning chemicals includes residual pesticides, carcinogenic dyestuffs, phthalates, heavy metals, and formaldehyde. The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is updated annually and reflects the latest advances in textile chemistry, up to date medical knowledge, and the current state of textile product safety regulations.
