SOFIC – Revision Introduces First Multi-Use Bump Shell With Ballistic Capability

May 24th, 2016

The new Revision Multi Use Bump Shell is under 1.5 lbs including ballistic capability. While the inherent properties are minimal (frag), when used in conjunction with an appliqué (currently unavailable for public viewing) it offers ACH level protection. It can also be configured for general purpose of as a coxswain helmet.

The rail system is skeletonized to save weight. The venting was positioned specifically to work with their two-piece appliqué so that it will still work even when appliqué elements are in place (graphic below).

It also incorporates a new liner system which is easily removable for the integration of comms.

Look for commercial availability around SHOT Show.

SOFIC – Wild Things Power Stretch Mountain Shorts

May 24th, 2016

Wild Things took a look at their line to figure out areas where they could save weight and realized that thir long underwear pants didn’t really need to be long. They took Power Stretch material and created a knee length short that keeps your thighs warm but leaves your calves free from bulk. With so many wearing calf length compression socks, their calves are already covered. It also equals less weight and bulk in your pack. Brilliant!

SOFIC 2016

May 24th, 2016

SOFIC is my favorite show of the year because it’s like old home week. Not only do I get to see my industry friends but I also run into a lot of guys I served with. It’s also the first show I covered on SSD back in 08.

Our live coverage begins today and will run through the week. We’ve already shown a few new releases debuting at this Special Operations Forces Industry Conference, and there are more on the way! Plus, this is an international year so attendance is up.

Iris Technology Exhibiting Radio Power Adapters At SOFIC

May 24th, 2016

There are two Radio Power Adapters you should check out when you visit Iris Technologies during SOFIC, the Merlin-3 and the Merlin H2. Both are quiet and built to MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F. They are also compatible with solar chargers.

Merlin-3 RPA

This Radio Power Adapter is for the Harris PRC-117G Radio. I like how Iris Texhnology refers to it, “The Merlin-3 isn’t your grandfather’s battery eliminator; it’s a RPA, battery charger and power manager.” It allows you to provide power to the radio, charge a rechargeable battery and provide 100W of power out to power most any accessory. Batteries can also be hot-swapped while it is in use. Additionally, it’s great for vehicle use as well as in Ops Centers because the Merlin-3 also serves as an UPS. When shore power is lost there is a fully charged battery that provides an uninterrupted capability rather than having your radio just go out.

Merlin H2

The Merlin H2 is a Radio Power Adapter for PRC-148, PRC-152, PRC-152A. It has many of the same features as the Merlin-3 but is geared toward handheld radios. However, it’s important to note that the power out of the aux port isn’t has high as the Merlin-3. It will accept input power from many sources: conformal battery, xx90 series batteries, ac/dc converter, etc.

Pelican Biothermal to Showcase Mobile Critical Care Blood Transport Containers Utilizing Golden Hour Technology at SOFIC

May 24th, 2016

Pelican BioThermal and strategic partner Tribalco will showcase award-winning Golden Hour™ Technology at upcoming military trade shows

Pelican BioThermal, a global leader providing the broadest and most innovative range of temperature-controlled packaging solutions serving the life sciences industry, and strategic partner Tribalco, LLC, now offer a solution for military personnel looking to transport life-saving materials further on the battlefield, the Golden Hour™ Medic. Built from the same technology used in their award-winning Golden Hour™ Mobile container, the smaller-scale product can be carried on a person, allowing combat medics and other military medical personnel to transport blood products to locations vehicles may not be able to reach.

Pelican BioThermal’s Golden Hour™ Mobile container was developed, shortly after 9/11, to protect military troops’ lives in the battlefield in the harshest of environments and climates. In 2004 this container was the winner of the ‘Army’s Greatest Invention Award’. Today, Pelican BioThermal’s™ packaging solutions provide the most reliable, longest temperature control duration on the market — including 96, 120 or even 144 hours or more of thermal protection. The Golden Hour™ Medic offers the same thermal protection on a smaller and lighter scale.

“The Golden Hour™ Mobile container technology on a smaller scale allows troops to take life-saving materials far distances from home base, while still successfully keeping blood at the critical temperature,” said Pelican BioThermal Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Kevin Lawler. “Temperature-controlled packaging, while it’s our focus at Pelican BioThermal, is just one piece of a large puzzle, and that’s why the team at Tribalco is a great fit for us as strategic partners. They helped us define requirements for what’s really needed in the field, involving military field personnel for testing and design feedback. This partnership allows us to deliver a better solution to combat medics on the front lines.”

As a global provider of mission-critical information technology, integrated telecommunications, and survival system solutions, Tribalco provides mission-critical information technology, integrated telecommunications, and soldier survival solutions to defense, civilian government, and commercial customers around the world. As strategic partners, Pelican BioThermal and Tribalco attend military trade shows together to showcase current products and determine innovative enhancements to improve Golden Hour™ containers for their customers.

“The feedback we receive from the decision makers in the special operations medicine field is invaluable,” said Tribalco Director of Operations, Jeremy Catrone. “Attending shows like SOMSA and SOFIC provide the opportunity to get feedback from medical advisors and better define operational needs. We are then able to collaborate with Pelican BioThermal to develop specific products focused on one goal; saving the lives of our troops.”

Pelican BioThermal and Tribalco will showcase the Golden Hour™ Medic and Golden Hour™ Mobile at these upcoming military and special operations medicine trade shows:

-Special Operations Medical Association Scientific Assembly (SOMSA) May 23-26, 2016 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina
-Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) May 23–26, 2016 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida
-Trauma Hemostasis and Oxygenation Research (THOR) RDCR Symposium June 20-22, 2016 at the Solstrand Hotel in Os, Norway
