MDM – Amazing What Shows Up In The MARSOC Booth

September 24th, 2015

I’m not sure which impresses me more; the places I see the SIG MCX show up, or that MARSOC is the Honey Badger of SOF.  They definitely have no issue doing it their way.  This is by no means an indication of adoption but it’s good to see that are checking things out and have no qualms about acknowledging it.

Noticeably absent from this impressive display of weapons? The M45A1 CQBP.

Magpul – Now Shipping Yugo Zhukov-S Stock

September 24th, 2015

I literally just saw this yesterday at Modern Day Marine. Magpul said it was coming soon and they weren’t kidding.

The YUGO Zhukov-S Stock’s hinge block for fixed-stock Yugoslavian pattern rifles allows the user to replace their factory buttstock with this folding polymer replacement. The hinge block mounts directly to the unique rear interface of Yugo pattern rifles with the included hardware providing a very robust fit. May require hand fitting due to variances in rifles.

A.G. WATCH CAP
Premium Grade, Machine Wash & Dry Merino Watch Cap Knitted in the USA

ag_watch_cap_1

For this Autumn, San Francisco based outdoor products company Prometheus Design Werx debuts their A.G. Watch Cap on Thursday, September 24, 2015. PDW introduces a true, fully shaped and knitted, performance merino watch cap, that is made locally in California. Unlike the other “knitted” beanies or watch caps styles on the market, the PDW A.G. Watch Cap is not just a simple “tube” stitched closed at one end, but uses a true full shaping construction method, which is knitted on state of the art computer controlled German knitting machines for a superior fit and uniformed appearance. The premium grade merino wool yarn used to knit this cap is sourced from a German-Italian based supplier, “itchless” for superior comfort, and machine wash & dry for easy care.

The A.G. Watch Cap will be an evergreen seasonal style for Prometheus Design Werx, and represents their lead in producing fully knitted wool and merino performance outdoor products in the USA.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“We have much respect and admiration for this American outdoor classic that has been worn by US Service Members, and all manner of outdoors persons alike. However, we wanted to update this understated staple and create a new high standard iteration for today’s user. Taking the basic iconic ribbed knit appearance of the original, we sourced some of the world’s finest performance merino wool yarns, determined a versatile 2+ season wearable weight, and applied a true shaped knitting process to produce our reboot of this classic. PDW is also proud to be working with local knitters, and producing these watch caps in California. While the original issue watch cap stands on its own, we wanted to offer our updated interpretation of it. We believe anyone who will field ours, will find it highly versatile, much more comfortable, easy to care for, and retains that timeless and classic appearance.”

The PDW A.G. Watch Cap will be available for purchase on Thursday, September 24, 2015 via their website, prometheusdesignwerx.com.

MDM – Colt CK901

September 24th, 2015

Walking past the Colt booth at Modern Day Marine I saw this out of the corner of my eye.

It’s the Colt CK901 which uses the 901 lower receiver type in 7.62×39 and accepts an AK47 magazine.

MDM – Outland Equipment – Kryptos K1 Knife

September 24th, 2015

IMG_4234

Outland Equipment developed the Kryptos K1 in collaboration with a US SOF customer (as in unit). The K1 is designed as a concealable carry knife, with a covert sheath which can be worn horizontally on a 1.5″ tactical belt. It’s an ambidextrous sheath design and can be positioned anywhere on a belt. The K1 is designed optimally for a swift and natural draw, with a pinky hook which helps index the hand and provides a secure location for a draw, and a solid base for thrusting. The handle of the blade has G10 scales, and jimping, for a more secure grip. The K1 is constructed of CMP 3V steel, with a full tang. The blade is double edged, with a 3.75″ primary cutting edge.

Also included with the K1 is a blue stainless steel training knife. Naturally, the handle geometry and sheath draw are designed to feel exactly like the live knife.

Warrior East - Concept Model

We first encountered the K1 at Warrior East, as a proof of concept while they dialed the design in with the customer. Although largely the same as the final production model, you can see a couple of features still being worked on, such as the design of the sheath, and the smooth scales on the handle, compared to the textured scales on later models.

OR - Pre Production Sample

Later, at Outdoor Retailer, we got to see the Pre-Production Sample Model. Here you can see it serves as the basis for the production knives, including the blue trainer, and the finalized sheath.

Production of the Kryptos K1 for this initial run was limited to 10 kits. At the time of writing, only four kits remained for sale.  There are more coming.
