SHOT Show – T10 Thermal Imager from Torrey Pines Logic

January 26th, 2015

Year after year, Torrey Pines Logic is tucked into a back corner of SHOT Show’s main tactical hall. I’ve known them since my active duty days and they are well known in the SOF S&T community for providing innovative technologies. At this year’s SHOT Show, TPL exhibited their T10 series of Thermal Imagers. I took a picture of it on top of a bill in order to show you its size. It’s actually that small, in the class of an MRDS.

IMG_1543.JPG

They are marketing it as a thermal micro dot. Based on capability, it’s really more of a micro thermal sensor than a typical micro dot. But, the T10 does offer a low-cost, weapon mounted thermal sensor option.

IMG_1605.PNG

Available in three models, the T10-S (50° FOV, 9Hz video) and T10-N (25° FOV, 9Hz video) are great for hog hunting and the T10-M (50° FOV, 30Hz video) is intended for LE use although none of the three are restricted sale. The screen offered several modes: white hot / color / black hot / NV green. The Picatinny compatible T10 comes with a wrist strap as well a handle.

Now, get this. The T10 is not ITAR controlled and can be exported under commerce rules. What’s more, all three models are very affordable.

SHOT Show – Armor Express

January 26th, 2015

IMG_1359.JPG

As I meandered through the halls of SHOT Show 2015, the aesthetic of the Raven carrier from Armor Express caught my eye. The refer to the PALS compatible triangle-shaped laser cuts as Trilogrid. It also features a built-in kangaroo pocket as well as ambidextrous horizontal knife sleeve. The padded shoulders are nonskid and incorporate utility ports for comms. Additionally, the best is lined with 3d spacer mesh.

ODG Advanced Reconnaissance Chest Rig

January 26th, 2015

Manufactured by the good folks at Grey Ghost Gear, the Orion Design Group Advanced Reconnaissance Chest Rig is a PALS compatible, Modular Chest Rig. There’s quite a bit going on with the ODG ARC so we asked them to send us a write up.

IMG_1597.JPG

We are proud to finally announce the ODG ARC. This design has been on the drawing board for awhile. It was conceived during a winter mobility training package I was invited to attend with an NSW Recce troop in the mountains of Idaho. It was also a collaboration between us and S&S Precision. Drew was instrumental in coming up with the silent closure and building the second article for us.

IMG_1592.JPG

The ARC is comprised of five pieces. First the heart of the system is the optics pouch. This pouch is capable of holding large framed 10x Binoculars and some small Thermal imagining devices. It is constructed with padding to help protect mission critical optics.

IMG_1600.JPG

It has an array of features:

Molle webbing on the sides to accommodate pistol mags, multi tools, laser range finders, and kestrel ballistic weather meters.
Fold down admin panel to accommodate GRG, ballistic data cards, maps, and some smart phones.
Elastic webbing to hold pens, chem lights,as well as loose ammo.
Bungie tie downs to hold elk bugle/game calls or remote antennas for personal coms.
Loop panel to accomodate magazine/pistol carriage

IMG_1593.JPG

The yoke will be offered in two configurations the “Alpha” (Not Shown) will be a slick minimalist yoke constructed in a four way stretch. The “Bravo” (shown) will be a mesh/ MOLLE platform for additional hydration/load carriage capability.

IMG_1598.JPG

The next component are the side panels which give you the ability to integrate into the optics pouch for a more robust load carrying capability, or the ability to remove the optics pouch and use as a stand alone micro chest rig.

IMG_1594.JPG

The panels contain internal and external loop placement for endless options for versatility in carrying magazines, radios, and pistols.

IMG_1596.JPG

Lastly the system offers a small roll top minimalist pack with an internal 32oz hydration sleeve and external hose port.

IMG_1599.JPG

We are happy to announce that the system will be manufactured by the newest member of the ODG Tribe, Grey Ghost Gear. They are consummate professionals, and the reason this third version came to be a reality. I can’t frankly say enough good things about them. They are great people as well as great professionals and we are thrilled to be working with them. If you are a small company like us and in need of nylon manufacturing capability these are the folks to get it done. I hope everyone had a great SHOT show we certainly did!

SHOT Show – American Rifle Company

January 26th, 2015

In addition to the Mausingfield action we showcased just before SHOT Show, American Rifle Company also displayed their M10 Scope Rings.

IMG_1347.JPG

CNC machined in the USA from 7075 aluminum, these rings are available in 1″, 30mm, 34mm, 35mm, and 40mm (measured as top of rail to center of scope ring.). Their crowned rail interface tolerates out-of-spec Picatinny rails and maintains zero. Finally, with only one rail clamp screw and one scope clamp screw per ring, mounting is easy.

IMG_1590.JPG

Additionally, ARC offers a QD-L Mount, available in 30, 34, and 35mm diameters, 35 and 40 mm heights, and inclinations ranging from 0 to 40 MOA.
