The Lakeshore Foundation is a non-profit organization that works with and helps wounded warriors by offering them exercise and recreational opportunities to aid in the recovery process. This video from NRA Life of Duty is short, but important in reminding our countrymen about the sacrifices being made by these selfless patriots and the organizations devoted to serving them.
RMI just released a new catalog for those operating downrange. Since medics are the second largest MOS in the military, RMI thought it would be a good idea let our readers in on it. First off, it’s handbook (not phone book) sized so that medics and clinic folks won’t have a hard time fitting it in their travel gear or medical kits as they deploy. There are also a few handy reference charts for prescription names, drugs, and international conversions. As the catalog grows, they’ll continue to add useful content so that it can double as a remote site rescue reference manual.
If that wasn’t cool enough, RMI is generously offering a 10% discount for all SSD readers through the end of January 2012. Use discount code SOLDIERSYS12.

We’ve long been fans of German language magazine “Kommando.” Much to our surprise that we would run across a new International edition of the magazine sitting on the news stand during our weekly visit to Barnes & Noble. According to the cover it looks to be a Quarterly publication and is very well put together. It gives the feel of a high end trade publication (which it is) and is filled with over 100 pages of color photographs of German small arms as well as the military and police units that use them. This premier issue looks to be weapons oriented but there is plenty for all students of tactical subjects contained in the text and photos.
It’s an excellent work and well worth the $9.90 cover price.
Just because we’ve run one 12 Days of Tactical Christmas on a particular day doesn’t mean there won’t be others. Check back frequently…Soldier Systems Daily, BOLO Report, Tactical Fanboy. Who is to say there won’t be another contest of some kind later? You must remain flexible!
Tyr Tactical Design Labs released a number of new designs back in October and they’ve continued to innovate since (as BOLO Report advised earlier). Here’s a look inside the Tyr Tactical facility in Arizona, where their kit is designed and manufactured.

As signature management becomes more and more important, even the smallest of details need to be tended to. Liquid Icon, Inc realizes this and has developed a low infrared coating for protective eyewear that reduces IR signature under thermographic imaging. Liquid’s IR “Brimstone” Coating is an IR absorbing material equivalent to the resistive coating applied to military vehicles. It reduces IR reflection under illumination and is exclusively available on Liquid’s low profile Hellfire glasses/goggle model. The all encompassing Hellfire is ANSI Z87.1 – 2010 certified and utilizes a rapid transitioning photochromic ballistic lens installed into a 6061 billet alloy frame.
