Discreet Body Armor LLC

December 29th, 2011

Discreet Body Armor, LLC is a small Missouri-based company that has caught the eye of their local news network which ran a story on their bullet proof computer bags and folios. Quite simply, the bags contain armor panels and when unzipped can be worn as armor. With the increase in workplace violence, we’re surprised we haven’t seen more products like these. Conceptually, it sounds great. But, the thing that raised my eyebrows a bit is the demo video.

I saw Richard Davis do this to himself when he ran Second Chance but it wasn’t in an office and there wasn’t a guy doing it to him. I appreciate Mr Griffin’s confidence in his products but I have a bit of hesitation getting behind stunts like this. All in all, it looks like a great product. Hopefully, they will reevaluate their marketing.

4 x 32 BROWE Combat Optic

December 29th, 2011

Newcomer BROWE Inc has introduced their 4 x 32 Combat Optic (BCO). Packed in a titanium housing, the BCO features a Single Intuitive Control (SIC) button, Target Light Sensor Technology, field programmable BCO Microcontroller, and a Vibration Motion Sensor.

The SIC button offers Automatic Mode at a single press which will utilize the Target Light Sensor Technology to measure the light transmission and automatically set the reticle illumination to the proper brightness. When you press it a second time the BCO enters into Manual Mode offering the choice of 10 day settings and 3 night vision settings.

The BCO has been designed with future improvements in mind. The is a sealed utility port at the backside of the battery housing which can be used to update the operating firmware or customize the existing program, or to attach remote pressure pad switch. What’s even more interesting is that this port can also be used to import or export power meaning that accessories such as lasers or mini red dots could be powered from the BCO battery. Since it’s also capable of importing power, it can run on an external power source such as powered rail.

Additionally, it boasts an average battery life of 2000 hours (at least 775 on max) partically due to the Vibration Motion Sensor which places the BCO in SLEEP mode if motion is not detected for two hours.

There are several models available with various reticles including NATO Chevron, NATO Crosshair and US Army Mil Dot. Finally, the BCO comes standard with an A.R.M.S. Mk II Throw Lever Mount. There is also a new LaRue mount that will be unveiled at SHOT Show. Many hope that there will be additional options as well.

Be sure to visit www.browe-inc.com at SHOT Show in Booth #20059.

You Can’t Run From The Internet

December 29th, 2011

Industry Professionals, please go to the link below and read the whole story of a “PR Professional” in the computer gaming industry who went full retard in a series of emails that garnered him the attention of several websites. End result, bad for said “PR Professional.” Once he realized how screwed he was, and begged for it to stop, he was informed that it was too late; the internet had the story.

kotaku.com/5871235/controller-company-berates-customers-penny-arcade-bring-popcorn

This is the age we live in. Think about what you say. I learned this lesson in the military. Once you send that email, it’s in the wild and there’s no calling it back.

Post something really dumb on a forum? Well, you might be able to go back and cover your tracks and get away with it once in awhile. But if you’re a REAL toolbag, you’ve made yourself some enemies and they lie in wait for you to show your ass and then copy it before your brain kicks in. Then, they’ve got you twice. Once for being a jerk and the second time for being a sneaky jerk and deleting it.

I know people who have whole email archives of email from others in industry implicating them in all manner of evils. They sit in wait for when alliances shift.

So, don’t do it. Smile at your detractors. Laugh behind their backs, in person if possible. Backhanded compliments are your friend. Offer them liberally. Tell your off-color jokes on-on-one. But don’t send an email telling a customer that they are a chump for buying your product. You just never know where it will end up and who will pay attention.
