Karrimor is well known throughout Europe for their trekking as well as military products. This year they have joined us here in the US for the OR Summer Market. Not only have they unveiled a whole lineup of outdoor packs and footwear but they’ve included a full range of military packs and load carrying systems in OD, Coyote, and The new British military issue Multi Terrain Pattern (MTP) developed by Crye Precision.
This is the pack Karrimor developed for the Bowman radio (A/N PRC-177 series). It is issued with Bowman radio sets for the UK, Netherlands, and several other nations. You can the clamshell design that cradles the radio close to the body. Below the pack is fully closed and not only provides room for other equipment but also helps to disguise the radio operator’s role. A good friend has just launched a new blog intended for the LE side of tactical. The new BOLO Report gets its name from the Be On the Look Out (BOLO) reports used by LE (in particular Military LE) personnel. You might also have heard this referred to as an All Points Bulletin on the civilian side.
The BOLO Report already has some excellent content and the author is developing some great links to industry. In fact, the article on Safariland’s new 40mm specialty impact munitions is especially informative. Be sure to check it out.
Princeton Tec (booth #15001) showcased their new FRED headlamp. Unlike others on the market, it starts out in red light and it takes a concerted effort to switch to white light. It is also offered in the MPLS platform to mount directly to an NVG mount. It is based on the popular FUEL headlamp and Made in the USA.
Freeze drying is the best way to preserve foods and Mountain House is the master. Every OR they offer samples of their new flavors. I tried the low sodium New Orleans Style Rice with Shrimp & Ham. The taste is excellent and it is slightly spicy with under 300mg per serving. Look for it and two other new low sodium meals early next year.
Mountaineering outfitter Brooks Range displayed their elephant’s foot sleep system. Designed to be used in conjunction with a parka it could be used to eliminate the sleeping bag from the Soldier’s load in some situations. It is available in several colors.
According to SureFire the new Minimus Tactical headlamp should hit the market soon (around late August). It features a variable output range of 1 to 100 lumens and includes a red filter.
The Advanced Warfighter Magazine from Lancer is becoming popular with users. We received this short summary from a serving member of the US military:
“On the AWM mags, they are a big hit. The guys that I have given them to like them a lot and like the way that they are functioning.
I even went so far as to load a clear magazine to 28 rounds, lay it on the concrete and run it over a couple of times with a jeep. We even stopped on top of it and turned the wheels on it, grinding it into the concrete. I then picked it up and went down to the firing line and it functioned without any issues, and is still functioning today.
On another mag, we did a “cold†test. We loaded the magazine full again (28 rounds) and kept it in the freezer for about 15-20 min. Then we took it outside and shot 7 rounds and then dropped the mag out of the mag well onto concrete from a standing position. Again no issues with it cracking or anything. We then picked it up and finished off the magazine with no malfunctions.”
Lancer uses a progressive mold to fully integrate PTFE coated steel feedlips into the polymer design. Additionally, they have incorporated a textured surface to facilitate a positive grip. Finally, they designed the L5ARM to even fit the H&K 416. Available in 20 and 30 round models in Translucent, Translucent Black, Translucent Brown, Black, OD, FDE, and Foliage.
SPA Defense has the magazines available for unit/agency purchase through their GSA contract # GS07F5566P.
