KAC Introduces 45° Offset Rail Mounted Micro Folding Sights

July 3rd, 2011

45° offset mounts for backup sights are becoming more popular. When needed, the shooter cants the weapon to the left to bring to sights into alignment with the target. Some of these new mounts utilize fixed sights which may become hung up on equipment or obstacles, while others utilize mini red dot sights which often rely on batteries themselves or may be suffer from broken glass. Knight’s Armament Corp on the other hand, has adapted their adjustable back up iron sights for use in the offset role.

The front sight is adjustable for elevation and the rear sight can be adjusted not only for windage, but also for ranges between 200-600 meters.

Phokus Aid

July 3rd, 2011

Almost a year ago to the day, we discussed Phokus Research Group, a small company dedicated to ethically helping military entrepreneurs market turn their good ideas into reality. Embodying the concept of “By the Operator, For the Operator”, one of the products they have worked on is called the Phokus Aid. The issue is that you have to constantly readjust the focus of your NODs when transitioning from observing or driving with the focus on infinity to close up work. Many troops have developed field expedient solutions utilizing the lens cap but really they don’t work well.

The Phokus Aid on the other hand is a purpose built solution to this problem. It allows the user to maintain infinity focus with the NODs, while providing clarity at critical distances of 10 feet and closer without requiring re-focus. You just flip the Phokus Aid up or down in order to use.

Order of the Undercollar

July 3rd, 2011

This guy looks REALLY proud to be an Engineer. I bet he has castle buttons on his ASU too. When the ACU was adopted by the Army, the rank insignia was moved to the center of the chest and the officer branch insignia was eliminated from the utility uniform. Naturally, this didn’t stop officers from wearing their branch insignia, they just had to come up with some interesting ways of doing it. Then comes along, Order of the Undercollarâ„¢, a company founded to provide branch insignia that fits perfectly on the Velcro found under the collar on the ACU. That way, an officer can flash his buddies the high sign so they know who’s who. I can say one thing, they are honkin’ big so you won’t have any problems sorting lawyers and tankers. Not sure if they have a MultiCam version coming yet or not but they will do custom runs with a unit designator. Be sure to check out the HH6 patch as well in case she, or he for that matter, lounges around in ACUs.

Kitting Out “Transformers 3 – Dark of the Moon”

July 3rd, 2011

Ever wonder how all of that cool kit you see in the movies gets there? One of the ways is through the efforts of our friends at Tactical Pro Shop. One of our favorite things about Tactical Pro Shop is that they insist on authenticity and won’t settle for knock-off products. What’s more, their work with Director Michael Bay demands the highest caliber of authenticity. His movies might be fiction, but the equipment has to look right. I spoke with Tactical Pro Shop’s honcho, Matthew Kime about their involvement with these films, “Michael Bay hires professionals that, like himself, demand cutting-edge technology and gear.”

He went on to specifically discuss their involvement in “Transformers 3 – Dark of the Moon”, “We started this project in Feb. 2010, so we had to be very proactive regarding where things are heading, plus integrate conceivable pieces of tech that this ‘elite’ unit would have had developed for their mission.”

Above you can see the use of Fastmags from ITW Military Products. This is the kind of thing we are talking about. “Our strong relationship with our brands really helps us accomplish what would be extremely difficult to accomplish otherwise, our film customers really understand and appreciate our ability to get things done,” said Kime when we asked him about the integration of the latest technologies into film.

Here’s another example of this concept. This screenshot from a “Transformers 3” trailer depicts actor Josh Duhamel’s character Major William Lennox in a Chem-Bio suit in the A-TACS camo pattern. Here, Matt Kime describes the choice, “ATACS was an obvious choice when the request came for something that would work well in an urban environment, and the fact that it had not been seen before on film was a big plus.”

Tactical Pro Shop not only works with Hollywood to provide the best and brightest tactical equipment but also offers their services to you. Be sure to check them out.
