Lego Goes Halo?

October 1st, 2010

Are you in anyway butthurt that the Halo property went to Mega Bloks instead of big kid of the block Lego? Yeah, unfortunately that’s not going to change any time soon. Luckily, with these custom-made weapons from brickarms, at the very least your personal army of minifigs can shoot like the Master Chief, if not look like him. The needler, plasma pistol, and energy sword are yours to command in a variety of colors, including cobalt, purple, gunmetal, silver, and transblue. Also available are a multitude of other weapons from all manner of fiction, each with a name generic enough to avoid copyright violations.

You can get yours at: http://www.brickarms.com/Default.aspx

Tactical Pants for Women

September 30th, 2010

TacticalPants.com has prepared an excellent article on tactical pants for the ladies. Quite frankly there is a dearth of information on this subject and the tactical community becomes more gender integrated, the market is only going to grow. (Take note of this manufacturers, there will be a test, and only those that pay attention will survive)

One of the article’s features that we really liked was the information on Men’s vs Women’s pants since there are still so few styles available. We hope that TacticalPants.com revisits this issue in the future as we hear there are more products for women on the horizon.

Field Gourmet – Do You REALLY Love Ramen?

September 30th, 2010

Several of the military rations we have been receiving info on (and keep the pics and info coming)include Ramen. Additionally, many of our readers either supplement issue rations with Ramen, are destitute college students who can’t afford anything else, or just happen to like the taste. No matter which category you fit into, it’s nice to spice those noodles up once in awhile.

One of our favorite blogs, Gizmodo, recently spoke withToshio Yamamoto, who writes, get this…a ramen review blog i-ramen.net. It’s a very interesting article and in it he suggests several enhancements to your standard Cup O’ Noodles. Funny thing is, if we had those other things we’d eat them and leave the Ramen in the cupboard.

ANVIS Arm from Wilcox Industries

September 30th, 2010

Wilcox Industries displayed their new purpose built arm for the ANVIS family (AN/AVS-9(V) (F4949) and AN/PVS-23 (F5050) Aviator’s Night-Vision Imaging System) of night vision devices at Modern Day Marine. Previously, mounts designed for use with flight helmets have been adapted with varying degrees of success to bump and ballistic helmets. Now, there is an arm that fits the standard one-hole NVG mount found on many helmets.

Additionally, a battery compartment has been integrated into the design so that the battery box does not need to be attached to the back of the helmet. You can see it in the photo above located just below the adjustment lever. A single DL123 battery will provide up to 32 hours of operation. Elimination of the battery box decreases both cost and weight and eliminates the cable that usually runs along the side of the helmet and can catch when in confined spaces. Although, that same box can still be used for those that use it as a counterweight.

Unlike aviation use mounts and arms, the new Wilcox item is machined from Aluminum and while the NVG will pop out from its ball and detent as designed, it won’t do it accidentally. You have to depress both sides simultaneously to get it out.

Rappel On!

September 30th, 2010

We spied these babies in the New Balance booth at Modern Day Marine. The Rappel from OTB Boots will be available in both low and high topped versions.

You may notice that the rubberized toe looks a little different than what you are used to. It’s because the rubber has been printed onto the toe which eliminates the glue and stitching that increases weight (and cost) and is vulnerable to wear. You will also notice the cut out breathing panels to increase airflow. Unlike other boots, the padding has also been eliminated from those areas.

While the low top version is a straight forward light hiker, the high topped variant sports a couple of features that make it a great candidate for a covert assault boot. The instep has integrated cleats to help retard descent while fast roping and the sides are covered in rubberized fabric that resists wear and increases friction.

Available early 2011 from New Balance’s OTB Boots brand.

CM901 Magazine Confirmed

September 30th, 2010

That was quick. Less than 24 hours after our article predicting that the Magpul 20LR would be the magazine for Colt Defense, LLC’s new CM901 Modular Carbine, it has been verified by Defense Review’s David Crane who seems to have the inside scoop. Go check out the photos. That’s an interesting finish on that weapon.
