Reversible Tactical Modular Assault Panel

September 13th, 2010

The whole idea behind this product is unique. Since the US Army has adopted MultiCam for use in Afghanistan, troops will find themselves requiring equipment in more than one pattern. So, CPGear designed a reversible, modular chest rig that is UCP on one side for garrison use and MultiCam on the other for combat use.

As you can see, the rig comes with anchor points that attach to the Improved Outer Tactical Vest’s (IOTV)PALS grid. This facilitates rapid donning and doffing. Additionally, the RTMAP is designed to integrate with IOTV’s cutaway mechanism without interfering.

An added bonus to having PALS on both sides of the rig is that pouches can be attached on the inside as well. Take for instance this radio pouch. Not only does attaching it to the inside give you more real estate for other items but it also protects the radio from some of the knocks and dings it could otherwise be subjected to.

If you’ll be attending the Infantry Warfighter Conference this week at Ft Benning, Georgia be sure to stop by CPGear’s booth # 1109.

P2 Systems Armor

September 12th, 2010

I first met the guys from P2 Systems at SHOT Show 2009 in Orlando. Between trips overseas on security contracts and developing new products they have remained steadily busy. David Crane over at Defense Review was able to track them down and had an opportunity to try out their various armor carriers. Take a moment to check out his review.

Rations – Another Look

September 12th, 2010

Early last week, the New York Times gave their readers a glimpse at the gastronomic delights that are field rations. One of our readers was so kind as to send a couple photos of the most recent Australian ration packs and reminded us of their excellent ramen component.

He also sent us a photo of a commercial ration that some are using that closely mimics many of the NATO rations.

We are looking for your ration pictures and experiences so send them along.

Machete – A Review

September 12th, 2010

Last week I said I should have seen “Machete” and you know what? I was right. Sure, it’s over the top, but that’s the point. It’s an exploitation film. Pure American cinematic escapism. It’s never pretentious and you aren’t expected to take any of it seriously. Yes, there is some pretty graphic violence but it’s almost cartoonish. And, make sure you are sitting down when I tell you this, but there are some naked ladies in this one as well so don’t take the kids. But of you are looking for a couple of hours of simple mayhem and corny jokes then “Machete” is the one for you.

Remembering September 11, 2001

September 11th, 2010

My children and I spent time today discussing the significance of that day. My children were all just kids, one not even born yet. As they have grown it seems as though our country has moved on. I still don’t understand how we can be in midst of the longest shooting war in our Nation’s history yet the average citizen barely knows it is going on. In my home we know all too well. Friends serve in combat and we do our bit here at SSD.

In the ensuing years since the Towers came down, I retired from the military and my children, one by one are answering our Nation’s call. My only hope is that by the time my youngest becomes a man, he will serve a victorious land at peace.

Honor those who serve and remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Adam Savage was captured wearing a Kitanica MARK I jacket on a recent episode of "Mythbusters" where they are testing whether a Slushie can kill someone when thrown out a car window at highway speeds (It's 2:00 into this clip). Adam's also the proud owner of a Kitanica MARK IV. In fact, overwhelming fan interest in Adam's MARK IV brought Kitanica back into the forefront.
