AUSA – Wilcox Industries

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Wilcox Industries has unveiled their new 3 hole shroud for the ACH/Ops-Core Helmet.

It’s a skeletonized design that is optimized for the ACH geometry. Additionally, it combines a machined anodized aluminum mount with a polymer housing. This approach balances strength and weight meaning zero movement left and right or up and down. In fact, they tested the design by attaching and detaching an NVG 5,000 times. Additionally, it is available with or without a lanyard.

AUSA – Gore Military

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Gore Military showed a prototype reversible garment. It features symmetrical performance meaning, the laminate is printed on both sides and provides full camouflage and full waterproof breathable performance no matter which side is out. Reversible shell garments have been done before, but not with a single fabric.

They’ve done this through some creative garment design that includes common pockets with dual openings and patterned seam tape. This version is the soon to be replaced UCP on one side and OCP (MultiCam) on the other. With the Army poised to select a new family of camouflage patterns, this type of garment adds a great deal of versatility is a single jacket.

The Mk15 Upgrade Kit is designed to take a McMillan single shot .50 bolt action weapon and turn it into a magazine fed weapon. Utilizing the Cadex Defence Chassis System, it is a modular system that will allow future upgrades or changes in components. The modular construction of the Strike 50 stock also makes for a stronger chassis as the “lower” is a single piece. Additionally, the chassis is configurable through the use of Picatinny rail sections.

Both rely on the same body and head but different tail caps. The Tactical Model features a two stage button with the first stop at 5 lumens and the second stop at 200 lumens. The “clickie” model incorporates a shrouded tail cap and in addition to the two settings, you can “click” the desired power setting.

That’s right, you get 200 lumens from a single CR123A for 1.3 hours. At 5 lumens it works for 37 hours.

AUSA – Cardinal Scientific

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Commercially known as RAIDS (Rifle Actuated IED Defeat System), this rifle launched line is used to clear lanes of IEDs. You might think of it as a launchable grappling hook and can be used to pull trip wires or even det cord. The Army recently awarded Cardinal Scientific a 2 year IDIQ for the system under the unlikely moniker DIED (Dismounted Improvised Explosive Device). Despite the name it’s a simple, yet effective bullet trap device.

20121023-190847.jpg

Previous devices only accepted M193 Ball but RAIDS accepts up to M855A1. It does this through the use of a removable trap and the system comes with 10 of these traps. Additionally, it uses 550cord for the line as it is readily available in the supply system and has little to no stretch.

RAIDS is quickly configurable and includes several replaceable tines made from stainless still and nylon for use on different terrain.

They have also recently developed the recently patented Viper system. Below is the Viper Light. The key to this version is their universal, mechanically stabilized mount. This means accurate rounds on target without a powered system. It will elevate to 72 deg with elevation and traverse controllable via independent release paddles mounted adjacent to the weapon’s grips.

This model mounts on a universal ring mount and boasts a 30mm auto cannon which is the same gun found on the Apache. With a max effective range of 3000m its armed with HEDP rounds that will penetrate 75mm of RHA and still explode on the other side.

It can be powered by vehicle or shore power.
