Extreme Outfitters Opens Showroom Near Ft Benning

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Extreme Outfitters is holding a soft opening today at their new Fort Benning location in Columbus, Georgia in honor of our first President; General George Washington.

COLUMBUS, GA – On the birthday of the first U.S. Army General George Washington, Extreme Outfitters announces their soft opening in “soldier country” just outside the gates of Fort Benning, combining high performance adventure equipment, with cutting edge tactical products, making them the premier distributor of military, law enforcement and outdoor gear.

Selected as the first Commanding General of the Continental Army in June 1775 at the age of 43, until he resigned his commission in December 1783, Washington accepted what he called “arduous employment at the expense of my domestic ease and happiness.”

In 1781 the soldiers of the Continental Army – working unpaid for five months – endured a great deal of suffering, primarily due to lack of food and clothing, under conditions Washington himself described as “most wretched.”

Today’s soldiers at Fort Benning are slightly better compensated and they are now able to access quality tactical gear and equipment that could save their lives in combat at a reasonable price at Extreme Outfitters new “brick and mortar” facility in the Peach State.

The new 10,000-square-foot showroom is similar in style to their Jacksonville, North Carolina store, but tailored to meet the needs of the modern-day soldier that include thousands of products from over 300 different manufacturers, such as Bates, Blackhawk, Garmont, Granite Gear, Vibram five-fingers, Injinji toe socks, Walkstools, Snugpack, High-Gear, Magnum, ASP, Tactical Assault Systems, Eagles Nest, Oakley, Injinji and Misty Mountain.

There are traditional tactical items like boots, holsters, backpacks, sleeping bags, knives and flashlights, in addition to high-end items such as GPS’, holographic weapons sights, watches, altimeters and solar power travelers.

To celebrate the new location, all Granite Gear ACU camouflage pattern items are 50 percent off retail, while all Blackhawk multi-camo items are from 30 to 40 percent off retail, for a limited time only.

Customers will receive a free T-shirt and VIP 10 percent discount off retail for purchases of all other items in the store.

The new Columbus showroom and all future Extreme Outfitters facilities include state-of-the-art electronic kiosks with iMac computer terminals to place Internet orders for rush items that may occasionally be out-of-stock.

This soft opening is to test the facility and train employees as they serve each customer with dignity and respect in preparation for their grand opening tentatively scheduled for early April.

Extreme Outfitters gives back to the community and is a proud sponsor of:

AnySoldier.com – a program where average citizens can purchase gear to send directly to service members who would not normally be able to afford it,
– The Wounded Warrior Project – a group working to honor and empower wounded military service members,
– Hope for the Warriors – a group that hopes to enhance the quality of life for U.S. Service Members and their families nationwide who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty, and
– Mom4RMarines – an organization that sends needed and morale-lifting products to entire deployed units.

Granite Gear Tactical 2011

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

We met up with Granite Gear at last month’s Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and had an opportunity to check out their tactical line. They’ve always got lots of cool products in the works. This past year they concentrated on developing products for the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) solicitation so there are a bunch of new medical products coming out. They are featured on pages 6 – 8. The DA-Med Pack in particular is well thought out and features the most innovative use of translucent cubic material we have seen yet. Additionally, the Armor Mounting System MOLLEs into place in order to stabilize the pack yet facilitates a quick removal.

A couple of other highlights to look at…First, on page 5 is the Voile strap, adapted from the ski industry it makes an excellent tie down for packs and odd loads. Next on page 9 is the Dragster, GGT’s drag bag. it has too many features to list here so just make sure you read about it in the catalog. Finally, is page 15’s Steripen Ready Aquasack that combines a water bottle, a specialized pouch for the Steripen and batteries, and an Aquasack to carry the whole thing in.

Princeton Tec in MultiCam at Extreme Outfitters

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

In the same tradition as three wise men following a star well into the night, U.S. and allied troops now have a chance to see the light as they deploy far away from home during the holidays.

From the same folks who brought the first initial U.S. shipment of Blackhawk! packs and pouches in the new MultiCam pattern, Extreme Outfitters is now offering Tan Princeton Tec headlamps with headbands also in the new MultiCam print.

Patrons at their Brynn Marr Shopping Center location on Western Boulevard and those who are finding their way to the website at www.tacticaledge.com, are taking advantage of the limited-time-offer discount of 25 percent off retail for the popular Remix, EOS Tactical and Quad Tactical models.

“They’re nice and bright,” said active duty Marine Derek Paquin. “They’re easy to use for multiple purposes.”
The Quad Tactical model has a wide beam to highlight the immediate area up to 35 meters away on the brightest of four settings.

The EOS Tactical model has a narrower beam to spotlight greater distances up to 54 meters on the brightest of four settings.

Both tactical models are waterproof to about three feet, have interchangeable blue, green and red lenses and take three included AAA batteries that power four settings of low, medium, high and flash modes.

The Remix model headlamp features three single-color LEDs, either red or green or blue or infrared, next to a larger white maxbright LED both with separate high and low settings powered by the included CR123 three-volt light.

The new headlamps just arrived over the Christmas weekend, but are only available while supplies last.
“They’re probably one of our top-selling headlamps,” said Extreme Outfitters purchasing manager Zakk Plocica. “They’ll go fast.”

Hot Off the Press: Extreme Outfitters First in US to Offer Blackhawk Gear in MultiCam

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

We just heard about this this morning and it’s pretty exciting news for Blackhawk! fans. BPG introduced a range of products in MultiCam in Europe earlier this year. In the interim, the Army adopted the pattern as the operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern. Consequently, Extreme Outfitters politiced to bring those products here in the US as well. In stock now.

THE ONLY PLACE IN THE COUNTRY

JACKSONVILLE, NC – All eyes are on the Brynn Marr Shopping Center on Western Boulevard this week as hundreds of the latest Blackhawk! MultiCam items arrived.
“We’re the first ones to get it – the only place in the country,” said Extreme Outfitters store manager Marion Plocica. “There are 2600 items – between 50 to 100 of each of a select group of products.”
The shipment includes pouches, packs, patrol belts, drop-leg platforms, medical bags, sniper drag bags and shooting mats – just to name a few. The gear in the new MultiCam camouflage pattern is so fresh from the factory that there aren’t many photographs of the original items available.
“It’s so new the manufacturer doesn’t even have pictures yet,” said Extreme Outfitters marketing director Chris Evans.
These are all in such high demand with a rapid military deployment schedule due to all the action in Afghanistan, that VIP customers can use their traditional 10 percent discount alone, but not in conjunction with any other specials.

According to Plocica, the gear is fresh for the holidays and in keeping with the spirit of Christmas, as U.S. troops keep American interests safe miles away from home and far from their families.

Veterans Day Sale-a-bration

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

Sure, Veterans Day was last week but we attended Extreme Outfitters’ Veterans Day festivities last year and they were loads of fun. So naturally, we thought it would be cool to take a peak at what went on at their Jacksonville location this year. Once again, our friend Eric Steinkopff sent us a report. Thanks Eric!

They were waiting for the doors to open early Saturday morning, November 13, for the special Veterans’ Day Celebration sales. Deals were 25 percent off all items in stock – in addition to the already discounted prices – as well as some other discounts in the 50-, 60- and 75-percent clearance category.

The weather cooperated with cool morning temperatures in 50-degree range, rising up to the 70s under a cloudless Carolina Blue autumn sky and most were pleased with the turnout.

“Extreme Outfitters always puts on a great event and the day went extremely well – We’re proud to be a part of it,” said Rock 105 on-air personality Wes Styles of WXQR 105.5 and WQSL 101.1 who was greeting people in the store. “Any little thing we can do to reach back to support the troops is always a plus for us.”
Visitors munched on free food from Credo’s Pizza of Jacksonville as they checked out the latest in cool gear at rock-bottom prices.

Among them was the Steripen Sidewinder – the latest in the series of portable, outdoor ultraviolet light purification systems – featuring a hand crank to power the device when other sources are not available, according to product representative Steve Baker. Other Steripen models use batteries or even solar power to recharge the device and quickly make nasty water safe to drink for campers, hunters or military service members far from home.

Elsewhere in the store several customers took advantage of the Veterans Day specials to grab a pair of the Extreme Outfitters exclusive new Bates M-6 and M-9 boots, each with 400 grams of insulation and suitable for hiking long distances. According to Bates spokesperson Dick Cheniae who was supporting veterans at the event, the Vibram sole has great arch support and stability on both the heel and forefoot – flexing front to rear while still giving significant lateral protection against twisting. The boot is warm and breathable, while still remaining extremely resistant to moisture intrusion and available in Mohave and desert sand colors.

There was even some key prototype gear on display to be manufactured by Tactical Assault Systems in exclusive cooperation with Extreme Outfitters.

The crowd was modest enough to give patrons room to move and examine the products, but still sales were brisk enough to make the day a resounding success. “It was insane – awesome,” said purchasing manager Zakk Plocica. “It was probably our best Veterans’ Day ever.”
