Trade Your Stinky Kit for KAC Products

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Grey Group Training is tired of seeing shiny crap kit in advertising and so is Knight’s Armament. They have teamed up with Knight’s Armament Corporation to present a contest that seeks used dirty real world plate carriers and armor carriers with pouches, patches, etc (don’t include armor, plates, mags, or sensitive items…) in exchange for prizes.

Here’s how it works. You post your pictures of your used kit on their Facebook page from now until 17 September and GGT will pick the 6 best sets of kit. Selectees ship their used kit to Grey Group (they pay the shipping), and the selectees receive prizes back from Knight’s as well as the bragging rights for their kit being used in KAC ads.

Knight’s is putting up everything from hand stops to Aimpoint mounts, apparel, rails, and even a SR 15E3 complete upper! So, start digging in the tough boxes in the garage, and get the camera ready. The more used the kit setups the better. Good luck!

782 Gear – Tradition Meets Innovation

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

We introduced 782 Gear’s Smokin Line during this year’s SHOT Show and as you may recall, they have taken product concepts that many of us grew up with and applied a modern material and construction story. Additionally, they didn’t just hit the market with one or two garments available in limited numbers. Rather, they have manufactured complete runs of base, mid, and outer layers and they offer FR options for many of these products. 782 Gear has also designed contact gloves, balaclavas, and beanies to complement their clothing. We have reviewed the line and can say that attention to detail is the standard. The mix of high tech fabrics with performance driven designs really impresses us. Take for example, the field jacket inspired softshell parka pictured above. It’s really more than a softshell as it also also incorporates hardshell technology, mixing fabrics for different effects based on location on the body.

One mid layer we want to point out is the APECS liner designed specifically to interface with the APECS parka issued to the Marines, Navy, and Air Force.

In addition to the clothing they also offer a blanket that is quite similar to the issue poncho liner except that there is an FR version. The blanket even has a hooded brother called the kloke (seen above). Also, they have introduced water resistant duffels made from PVC and ballistic nylon. We’ve shown you just a couple of products but everything is like that. It’s fresh and new and worth checking out. Colors options include Black, Coyote, Foliage Green, and MultiCam (including the head and hand wear) and several of the clothing items are reversible.

782 Gear can be found at their three distributors Source One Distributors, GSS, and Grey Group Training.

A Cure for the Common Plate Carrier

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Soldier Plate Carrier SystemTroops in Afghanistan have begun to receive the new Soldier Plate Carrier System and many are beginning to realize its greatest shortcoming; the lack of a cummerbund. Interestingly, every other design assessed by PEO-Soldier during last year’s search for a plate carrier sported a cummerbund which helps support the weight of the vest as well as side plates when they are worn, provides additional space for modular equipment, and holds soft armor inserts. While the SPCS provides a minimalist option to our fighting forces, a more modular approach can easily be fielded with the addition of a removable cummerbund. There is no need to permanently modify the vest already in service or remove it even temporarily from service for additional sewing. Such a self-help mod improves the scalability of the system and affords the commander more options in adapting his troops’ protection level to the threat.

Based on such a requirement, enters Mayflower with the perfect solution. Their Cummerbund Adapter Kit converts any plate carrier with PALS webbing on front and back into a hard plate carrier with front flap. It features PALS webbing as well as elastic and accepts 6×6 or 6×8 plate pockets. What’s more, the cummerbund accommodates up to 48″ circumference. It is easily applied to any plate carrier lacking an integral cummerbund and requires no permanent alteration to the carrier. It is quickly attached and removed via PALS webbing.

For a better idea of how the adapter works, take a look at this in depth video.

Offered in a variety of colors including MultiCam and UCP, the Berry compliant Cummerbund Adapter Kit from Mayflower Research and Consulting is available from Grey Group Training.

Grey Group’s Second Anniversary Sale

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Time sure flies when you are having fun and based on my conversations with the staff at Grey Group, it feels just like yesterday that they started the business. Hard to believe, but it’s already been two years.

So based on this auspicious occasion, Grey Group is proud to announce a store wide sale both online and at their Ft. Bragg Pro Shop. Looking at this as an opportunity to give back to the community for all the support it has given them over the past two years, they are offering up to 50% off of everything in stock from Saturday November 14th to Saturday November 21st. That’s right. Everything is on sale, at various discounts up to 50%.

Grey Group has also launched a new homepage to act as their central hub, reflecting the history of their company, and the soul of their organization. It is truly worth the visit at: www.greygrouptraining.com. Another new feature is the launch of The Grey Group Training Community. Grey Group Training has never been about the gear, or the training. It’s ALWAYS been about their boys, about the lifestyle, about getting the job done. It’s about knowing there is work to do, doing it, and then relaxing. From the onset, the store has been about comfort. They offer free beer, plenty of places to sit, and there are always good movies playing and cool books around. They have taken this same concept and brought it to the internet. They want to build a community with their customers and hope you will contribute.
