Ops-Core to Officially Launch Mission Configurable Helmet Cover at Warrior East

Ops-Core

We first showed you the Mission Configurable Helmet Cover during AUSA 2012. Since then, it’s seen some limited use and a bit of development. During a recent visit to Op-Core’s Boston Factory, they showed me an enhanced model that will join the original version we’ve shown you in the past.

I’ve got to say that I still love the thing. It’s a great way to enhance the capability of your ACH-style helmet with the addition of not only a cover, but also VAS Shroud and ARC Rails. And all this with the addition of a cover and the pulling of a drawstring.

Ops-Core Visit – A Trip Down Memory Lane

Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

15

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to visit Ops-Core’s new factory in Boston for a personal tour by founder David Rogers. I saw a whole slew of cool things but first, I thought you’d enjoy a glimpse at some of the items in their library.

The shelves in the lobby contain a variety of head protection items from a variety of sources, but the developmental Artisent and Ops- Core artifacts in particular, are awesome. In addition to a couple of OFW/FFW models there are also technology demonstrators with early versions of features that are now standard in Ops-Core helmets.

Look for additional coverage later this week.

Attention Ops-Core: These Photos Are Keepers

Sunday, February 23rd, 2014

First, we see Chief of Staff of the Army GEN Ray Odierno donning an Ops-Core Maritime FAST Helmet as he prepares to observe a live fire demo by members of 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Hunter Liggett, CA.

Next, he is out in the field, kitted out. I also dig that the CSA is wearing the Operational Camouflage Pattern even though it is a CONUS training exercise.

On the other hand, we have this photo taken at a different time and place, of the Commander-in-Chief, President Obama wearing an ACH with the worst cover I have ever seen. If looking cool is winning, then GEN Odierno is taking home the trophy. The POTUS? Well, maybe that’s what happens when you hang out with Marines.
What a Helmet
(Thanks Feral Jundi for the heads up on the POTUS helmet.)

Ops-Core Awarded Contract To Supply UAE With Ops-Core FAST Ballistic High Cut (XP) Helmet

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

We received this announcement from Gentex for the UAE adoption of the Ops-Core FAST Helmet. It’s a great helmet and we see more widespread adoption of the design internationally. Congrats guys!

Ops-Core, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gentex Corporation and the recognized world-leader in modular integrated helmet systems for elite defense and security forces, was awarded a contract to supply the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Presidential Guard with its Ops-Core FAST Ballistic High Cut (XP) Helmets.

Field proven ballistic protection and modular design played a leading role in selection of the helmet by the UAE military unit. “The UAE Presidential Guard relies on gear that provides protection and performance in hostile and challenging environments,” said Chandra Sankar, vice president of Ground Systems for Gentex Corporation. “The contract affirms our customers’ confidence in the quality and capability of our products and our continued growth in international markets.”

The Ops-Core FAST Ballistic High Cut (XP) Helmet is a lightweight modular helmet system designed for protection, comfort, and stability. XP Helmets also provide a solid platform to easily add compatible accessories such as Night Vision Goggles, and Mandibles and Visors, to suit mission needs such as mission documentation, breaching/ATV exercises, and night and airborne operations.

The FAST Ballistic High Cut (XP) is part of the Ops-Core helmet system portfolio designed to provide the modern warfighter with the best equipment for every mission. Product focus ranges from fielding the lightest integrated helmets in the world to providing holistic head borne systems with the most protective coverage and situational awareness capability. Customers can choose between types of threat protection, weight and price. Different shell versions use the same liners, retention and integration components to maintain compatibility. Ops-Core Unveils RAC at AUSA

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

I’ve been following the development of the Rail Attached Communications (RAC) headset for some time now and I’m glad to see it out there. Ops-Core has worked hard with their customers to offer something unlike any other head set on the market. First off, it was designed from the outset to work with the Ops-Core helmet and integrates seamlessly with other helmet system components such as the ARC Rail. The RAC headset works with FAST and Sentry helmet models.

20131021-231748.jpg

While the outward appearance hasn’t changed much throughout development, lots has been done to refine the ergonomics and improve performance. For example, the team went through multiple iterations to offer an ergonomic earcup with contoured cushions. With almost every headset out there, the part of the earcup that sits against the ear is flat. Unfortunately, the human head is far from flat and everyone’s is slightly different. Not only is the shape of the RAC earcup not flat, it’s also not the typical oblong found with other earcups but rather an asymmetric shape.

20131021-222652.jpg

They combines this ergonomic earcup with a gimbal mount so that it can fit as close to the head as possible in order to maximize protection.

20131021-222850.jpg

This gimbal and mount system has a stop that holds the earcup just off the ear.

20131021-223142.jpg

That ran articulation/latch also allows the RAC to be rotated back out of the way on the helmet (either one side or both) for storage.

20131021-233038.jpg

Here is an older photo of a developmental system that will show you how the stowage function works.

20130117-093425.jpg

The RAC also offers 3D hearing technology (3D HT) for natural hearing restoration and reproduction of ambient sounds with a high degree of directional accuracy. It’s done through their sound processing software. In fact, it’s unlike any other headset I’ve seen.

There’s something else here that is new to me. The RAC utilizes in-the-ear plugs. Now you might see this and go, “So what?”, but this is different. These optional inductance receiver ear plugs are wireless and use magnets to produce sound and increase hearing protection above conventional ANR levels.

20131021-233202.jpg

It turns itself off after 2 hours in order to conserve batteries but only after an audible warning tone. Auto shutdown can be averted by touching either one of the on/off/balance/volume control buttons. The RAC includes a noise canceling boom microphone but can also be connected to a pro-mask microphone if needed. Finally, the RAC is IP-68 submersible to 6m and available in a Black or Tan.
