SKD Announces Special Offer on Mayflower’s Assault Plate Carrier

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

SKD has announced a great deal on the recently released Assault Panel Carrier (APC) from Mayflower Research and Consulting. For the next two weeks, SKD will offer the APC for $195 after which the price will rise to $210. As with all Mayflower products, the APC is designed based on real-world experience.

The upper front of the APC contains an integral admin pouch with internal elastic loops to retain pens, pencils, chemlites or similar items. Additionally, the front lower half of the APC has an integrated pouch sized to hold up to three M4 sized magazines. The shoulder pads are 3D mesh for comfort and feature a Velcro routing channel for cable and drinking tubes.

The APC is supplied with Mayflower’s standard PALS compatible cummerbund designed to accept 6″x 6″ hard armor plates or side soft armor. What makes the APC really interesting is that it is also compatible with Mayflower’s suite of modular cummerbunds. The APC is available in two sizes; S/M and L/XL with three cummerbund options. The S/M is available with either a small or medium cummerbund while the L/XL is available with either a medium or large cummerbund. The plate pockets are sized to accommodate stand alone or in-conjunction BALCs/ESAPI or Swimmer cut plates. The S/M APC will fit small, medium and 10″x12″ sized plates. The L/XL APC will fit large and extra-large plates. So, these options give the wearer a great deal of customization in regard to sizing.

Berry compliant and made from 500D Cordura, the APC is available in Black, Coyote, and MultiCam. To order, visit www.skdtac.com. Be sure to check out Military Morons’ review of the APC.

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

SSD sponsor SKD Tactical has just announced that Tyler Cigard as the Head of their new R&D shop.

In his new role, Tyler will design and fabricate tactical nylon gear prototypes for SKD’s military and consumer markets. “His design capabilities and strong relationships at Eagle Industries will facilitate an efficient process through which our OEM products will reach our customers,” says Piggly_Wiggly, online spokesperson. “He will also play a lead role in SKD’s new initiatives in the Parachuting/Skydiving market.”

Tyler served for 6 years in the US Army as a Parachute Rigger, during which time he earned his Master Rigger certification. Bragg Rapid Prototype & Design Facility, where he worked closely with SOF personnel designing unit-specific tactical nylon solutions. “While I am fairly concerned about working with these clowns at SKD, I am pretty jazzed that they let me wear pajamas to work,” says Tyler.

Zero Tolerance 0360.SKD Knife

Monday, June 7th, 2010

SKD Tactical has just released their first knife collaboration and it’s with Zero Tolerance. Based on the popular 0350, the SKD variant culminates 18 months of effort. One change is that the 0360’s blade is a full 30% lighter than the 0350’s blade even though they both have the same thickness. Combined with the ZT SpeedSafe® system, the lighter blade snaps open all the faster. The S30V stainless steel blade with Tungsten DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) is coated in a non-reflective self-lubricating corrosion resistant finish. This is paired with a textured, matte-black G-10 grip featuring quad mounting system for tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip carry. Probably the most interesting feature on the 0360.SKD is that a small carbide tip has been added to the butt of the handle for emergency glass-breaking use. While it is a collectible knife featuring a three digit serial number, the price point and features beg for it to be an Every Day Carry option.

SKD Tactical Releases PIG Plate Carrier

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

The much anticipated PIG Plate Carrier has finally arrived, and SKD Tactical is currently taking pre-orders for the first production run due early spring 2010. Manufactured in the USA for Patrol Incident Gear by Eagle Industries, the PIG PC was conceived with input from law enforcement and military special operations personnel, that culminated in a design that is unlike any other plate carrier on the market today.

SKD Tactical's New PIG Plate Carrier

The PIG PC features an industry first, the adjustable plate stirrup that keeps the plate at the top of the carrier and centered, regardless of plate size (fits SAPI S-XL). Additionally, lowering the shoulder strap attachment point raises the plate placement on the upper thoracic cavity, an often overlooked achilles heel on most traditional plate carriers. They have also taken steps to answer the common complaint that carriers are uncomfortable by adding continuous padding on the rear carrier and shoulder straps. The rear padding will soon see a debut on a new Eagle pack design as well. Hybrid 500D Cordura and Nylon Pack Cloth construction reduces the weight to a minimum. Additionally, SKD has prepared an Ala Carte options system that allows users to order only the features they need.

SKD Tactical is offering a pre-order discount for a limited number of customers, on a first come first serve basis. For more information, visit www.skdtac.com.
