FirstSpear Range Day – SureFire Institute SFI-15 Lower Receiver

Monday, January 16th, 2017

SureFire Institute has just introduced their new Polymer lower receiver for AR-style rifles.

Developed in conjunction with E3 Arms, they took a look at the internal firing mechanism to improve trigger pull and reset. However, the selector lever can be moved to Safe with the hammer forward or to the rear. The SFI-15 can be stored on Safe no matter what condition the rifle is in, and the weapon can immediately be placed on Safe while dealing with a malfunction.

It weighs 1.1 lbs. I realize many are hesitant to use a polymer lower but SFI says that the material has a tensile strength of 33,500 psi, tensile elongation of 2.5-3.5% and flexural strength of 50,000 psi.

FirstSpear Range Day 17 – TNVC TAPS

Monday, January 16th, 2017

TNVC has made it happen! The Tactical Applications Pressure Switch (TAPS) from Unity Tactical has made the transition from low rate to full production.

It mounts directly to a Mil STD 1913 rail and its two pressure pads are user programmable to slaved or individual modes so you can control both light and laser from a single pad. You can control momentary or constant with the switch.

One lead works with SureFire lights while the other interfaces with Steiner or Insight lasers. It requires a single CR-2032 battery but will still offer momentary On with a dead or no battery.

BLUE FORCE GEAR ULTRAcomp Pocket Holster

Monday, January 16th, 2017

The Blue Force Gear Pocket Holster is the company’s first foray into the everyday carry (EDC) market. The manufacturer of battle-tested weapon slings and battle equipment has used its revolutionary field gear development experience to create the ULTRAcomp Pocket Holster.

Designed with Blue Force Gear’s proprietary high-performance laminate called ULTRAcomp, the new EDC pocket holster exceeds military standard materials in tear and abrasion resistance while remaining versatile and ultra lightweight for the carrier. ULTRAcomp removes extra bulk while solidly securing and concealing a pocket pistol, creating the thinnest pocket holster available today.

By reducing the weight and bulk over a standard pocket holster, the ULTRAcomp Pocket Holster provides additional comfort to the carrier and protects both the weapon and interior of the pocket. The secure weapon positioning that the holster provides ensures safe and accurate grip and weapon removal from its pocket holster.

The Blue Force Gear ULTRAcomp Pocket Holster is available to fit the SIG SAUER® P238/938, KIMBER® MICRO, GLOCK® 42, and RUGER® LCP® / LCP2.

Sunday, January 15th, 2017

TYR Tactical is a sponsor of SIG Media Range Day.

We’re going to give you a few teasers of new products coming from TYR Tactical’s Huron Tactical this year.

We’ll start off with their 3A jacket which is their take on the SOCOM PCU 3A. It’s pretty straight forward with two handwamer pockets and Polartec Alpha insulation.

They will also introduce a CWU 106 Jacket, Pant and Anorak, all made from Polartec NeoShell. The Anorak is already out and this set is intended as a Level 6 garment.

Additionally, all three will be available as Insulated versions with PrimaLoft Gold fill, known as CWU 107. These are 100% waterproof breathable with fully taped seams. The pants have removable suspenders and full length side zips to accommodate donning and doffing.

Finally, you asked for it and TYR Tactical listened. They will introduce a Combat Shirt as a component of their HWU 107 hot weather uniform. It relies the same 3.6 oz ultra quick dry nylon with Polartec PowerDry torso.

Also, look for a temperate version of their combat uniform in 50/50 NYCO as well as Ranger Green color options for all Huron items.
