FASTmag Gen III

Monday, June 1st, 2009

To clarify a point from our earlier FASTmag coverage, the Gen III will not stack with mil-spec PALS-style attachments. The snaps are too thick to fit through the slot but other FASTmags as well as MALICE clips fit fine.

ITW FASTMAg Gen's II & III

In the pictures you see the standard Gen II FASTmag (Left) compared to a belt-style Gen III (Right). There are two styles of Gen III, the belt-style as well as a standard PALS compatible version with the ears to tuck under an upper row of PALS to enhance stability. The belt-style has a removable bar that slides along the loops to accommodate various width belts.

Down East changed from the mil-spec MOLLE attaching system to a proprietary synthetic. Also, please notice that they have improved the security of the FASTmag to the point where they feel they could omit the bungie strap from the design.

Ghillie Suit Base Layer

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

PEO-Soldier is finalizing an improved Ghillie Suit Accessory Kit which for the first time, has included a Base Layer garment. Designed by Crye, the Base Layer, according to a PEO-Soldier briefing, provides “fire resistance as well as improved counter-surveillance protection, protection from flame and thermal threats, increased mobility and agility, increased multi-system operability, and anti-odor/anti-microbial properties.”

Ghillie Base Layer

Of course this begs the question; is this an indictment of UCP? If snipers require superior camouflage why is it Multicam and not UCP?

The Spider Holster

Spider Holster

While the Spider Holster was developed specifically for SLR cameras, I can see a lot of potential here. The idea is to take the weight of the camera off of the shoulders and transfer it to the waist. The Spider Holster consists of two components. The SLR is modified with a pin in the tripod port at the bottom of the camera. The pin slides into a slot on the holster that holds it in place.

Magpul Introduces MOE Trigger Guard

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Magpul has added to their every expanding Manufacturer Original Equipment (MOE) line with the release of the Trigger Guard. It is non-folding, has rounded edges, and fills the “gap” between the rear of the standard trigger guard and pistol grip. Magpul notes that due to variances in manufacturer specs some rifles may require some slight adjustments to the Trigger Guard for proper fit. The Trigger Guard is available in Black, Flat Dark Earth, Olive Drab, and Foliage.
