Field Density Altitude Compensator

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

US Tactical Supply is now offering the Field Density Altitude Compensator from Adaptive Consulting and Training Services. It is a simple device designed to allow the shooter to quickly compute a firing solution. Developed by Marine Snipers, the FDAC requires no batteries and is lightweight. Its two sides feature MOA (minute of angle) and .1 mil calculators that work in a fashion similar to a slide rule producing solutions based on the G7 drag model.

HIGH GEAR ADS Tactical

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

We’ve written about HIGH GEARâ„¢ here on SSD in the past, but this new article published yesterday by ADS tells a lot more of the story about the gear and how it has already been kitted for use as the MACK (Modern Army Combatives Kit) as well as how it can be assembled as a custom solution for any organization conducting combatives training. In addition to the fighting suits, HIGH GEARâ„¢ also offers the Decon Zone Sanitation System which can decontaminate not only your combatives gear but also anything that picks up germs and mildew. We’ve talked about it before and in our opinion, wider use of the Decon Zone would result in a healthier force.

HIGH GEARâ„¢ components are Berry Compliant / Made in USA and produced by London Bridge Trading Company. Agency or unit orders can be handled by ADS Inc.

Make sure you check out the article at www.adsinc.com/geared-up to learn about HIGH GEARâ„¢.

Digital Camo Goes a Bit Too Far

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Sure, protesters and bandits use black ski masks to in order to hide their identities, but this new Pixelhead mask is intended by its creator, Martin Backes to serve as “media camouflage”for those weary of finding themselves on Google Streetview and Facebook. This model features two eye slits and is printed in a pixelated image of German Secretary of the Interior Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière.

SIMEG from Digital Force Technologies

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

For those of you who are “new” readers, as in having begun reading since we ran this article in June of 2008, we thought you might be interested in a great piece of kit that has been upgraded a couple of times since we published this. They have been providing capabilities for years that other companies are just now beginning to offer. DFT has our highest recommendation for small unit ISR capabilities.

DFT SIMEG

Satellite Imagery Enhanced GPS (SIMEG) Receiver is a rugged, handheld GPS receiver that correlates the receiver’s position and displays it on satellite imagery as a geo-rectified moving-map. What makes the SIMEG so unique is that it supports all National Geospatial Agency digital imagery and map products down to 1-meter CIB imagery. Upgrades are being worked for NGA’s Vector Product Format and specialty products developed by NGA and terrain teams as well as commercial products such as USGS Digital Ortho Quads for work back here in CONUS. While a few new commercial receivers show commercial imagery, no commercial GPS receiver displays NGA products. That alone would make the SIMEG worth pursuing but the team at DFT has also made the SIMEG compatible with PFPS route and threat overlay files. This means you can plan a mission on a Mission Planning terminal and export overlays to the SIMEG. They will show up on the imagery just like they do on FalconView. Top that!

The SIMEG has been under development for about four years and in use by specialized forces. I say development, because as I stated earlier, DFT is constantly updating software to support new requirements and emerging digital geospatial products. DFT is also looking at ways to improve the form and fit of the capability but I’ll leave it up to them to tell you more.

In addition to the SIMEG, DFT has a range of ISR technologies aimed at the small unit.

Volk Tactical Adds A-TACS

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

About a year ago we introduced you to niche Japanese brand Volk Tactical. Recently, they contacted us with news that they had begun to produce products in the A-TACS pattern.

While Volk Tactical has been primarily serving the enthusiast market, you can see that their kit looks pretty good in A-TACS and helps give an idea of the realm of the possible.

Once again, we would like to let our Japanese readers know that our thoughts are with them in this difficult time and we wish them health, safety and a swift recovery.
